His lordship has gathered together a good working committee of men learned in the musical and dramatic arts , and the first meeting at the Mansion House on Monday passed off very satisfactorily .

On Tuesday there was an increase of the febrile disturbance , but in the afternoon the abatement of the unfavourable symptoms was so decided that the Prince of Wales left Marlborough House for Luton Hoo . to pay a long promised visit to M . and Madame de Falbe . The Princess of Wales continues , however , to take an active part in nursing- her son .
Mr . M . A . Holbein , the amateur cyclist , last week accomplished the feat of breaking the record of 336 V miles in 24 hours . He commenced his task on Wednesday at midnight , and riding almost continuously with only a few short intervals , succeeded in covering the distance of 361
miles 144 6 yards . What greatly enhances the feat is that the weather for the first 12 hours was very unfavourable , while Mr . Holbein himself still felt the effects of the injuries he had received a short time previously through being ran into .

Among those present were the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge . The ceremony was performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury .
Lady Ebury died at her husband s town residence , 35 , Park-street , Grosvenor-square , on Saturday last , in her S 4 th year , having been born in 1 S 0 S . She married Lord Robert Grosvenor , born in 1 S 01 , who in 1 S 57 was created Baron Ebury , and is the present father of the House of Lords , being rather more than a year older than Earl Grey , born in 1 S 02 . He is the sole surviving uncle of the Duke of Westminster , and the death of her ladyship will place a number of distinguished families in mourning .
There will be great doings in Denver , Colorado , in the months of July and August of next year , when the Mary Commandery of Knights Templar , No . 3 6 on the roll of the Grand Conclave ot Pennsylvania , will make a pilgrimage to the Denver Conclave in connection with the meeting of the Grand Encampment of the United States . The grand benefit at the Royal Aquarium in aid of the Gordon Boys' Home , which was originally intended to be held on Thursday only , will be extended , in consequence of the number of artistes who have proffered their services , and will be held to-day ( Friday ) and to-morrow ( Saturday )

The remains of Prince Louis Lucien Buonaparte , son of Lucien Buonaparte , Prince of Cassino , brother of the first Napoleon , were interred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery , Kensal Green , on the 20 th instant . At a ball held at Adelaide in honour of the Australasian Squadron by the Earl and Countess of Kintore , at the Government House , each lady was dressed to represent a Mower . The collection of postage-stamps bequeathed to the trustees of the British Museum by the late Mr . Tapling , M . P ., has been received at the Museum from Mr . laphng ' s executors . It contains about 200 , 000 stamps , exclusive of a very large number of cards , envelopes ,
