In the presence of a small knot of relatives—there being only a few friends , the funeral , at the request of the bereaved , being kept as private as possible—the remains of Bro . Dr . P . H . Ernest Brette , of Christ ' s Hospital , were on Friday , the 21 st inst ., interred at Old Charlton Cemetery . Among those present were Bros . John Derb y Allcroft , Treasurer Christ ' s

Hospital , Past Grand Treasurer Grand Lodge of England ; H . F . Stewart , W . M . Thames Valley Lodge ; E . Y . Jolliffe , P . M . Aldersgate Lodge ; George Kenning , Treasurer Aldersgate Chapter ; W . Sweetland , P . M . Thames Valley Lodge ; Dr . Sharkey ; and others . Bro . Rev . Richard Lee officiated at the grave and in the chapel .

The members of the Western District United Service Lodge , No . 2258 , at their monthly meeting held on Wednesday , the 19 th inst ., presented Bro . Major M . Tracy , R . A ., l . P . M . of the above lodge , with a very handsome gold jewel as Past Prov . Senior Grand Warden of Devonshire . Bro . Major Tracy ' s

career in Freemasonry is highly distinguished . He was initiated in the Island of Jersey in August , 1861 , in the Yarborough Lodge , No . 244 , and vvas thrice W . M . of that lodge , and the brethren , to mark their high estimation of his services , presented him with a valuable gold Past Master ' s jewel . He also served the

office of Prov . Grand Secretary of Jersey , and on his promotion to Great Yarmouth he received the thanks of the Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret ) for his zeal and attention to the important duties annexed to that appointment . Also served as W . M . in the following lodges , viz .: Friendship ,

No . 100 , Great Yarmouth ; St . David ' s , No . 3 6 , Edinburgh ( twice ); United Service , No . 2258 , Plymouth ; was also a member of the St . John ' s Lodge , No . 1247 , for eight years . He is P . Z . of the H . R . A . Chapter . No . 84 , Guernsey . The Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire , Bro . Lord Ebrington , to testify his

appreciation of Bro . Major Tracy ' s Masonic services , conferred upon him the collar of Prov . Senior . G . Warden . Bro . Major Tracy is also Past Sovereign of Knights of the Red Cross of Rome and Constantine , as well as a Commander of the K . H . S . and Kni ght of the Holy

Order of St . John the Evangelist ; he has worked with untiring zeal for the Craft generally , whereby his valuable services have been frequently acknowledged by the brethren in England and Scotland in the presentation of handsome testimonials of plate , jewels , and certificates on vellum .

The handsome jewel voted unanimousl y by the members of the United Service Lodge to this worth y brother was presented ( in the unavoidable absence of the W . M ., Bro . Col . ( 2 nd Commandant ) J . Phillips , C . B ., R . M . L . I ., by Bro . D . CROSS , P . M ., P . P . G . T .,

in most eulogistic terms of fraternal good wishes towards the recipient . Bro . Major TRACY acknowledged the gift with heartfelt expressions of gratitude , and his earnest desire to do all in his power for the interests of

EASTER RAILWAY ARRANGEMENTS .

GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY . In order to meet the convenience of the public the Great VVestern Railway Company have made arrangements for the issue of excursion and ordinary tickets at their City and West End offices , viz .: 193 and 407 , Oxford Street ; 23 , New Oxford-street ; Holborn Circus ; 29 , Charing Cross ; 26 , Regent-street ; = ; , Arthur-street , East ; London Bridge ; S 2 ,

Oueen Victoria-street ; 43 and 44 . Crutchedfriars ; 67 , Gresnam-street ; 4 , Cheapside , and 269 , Strand , at any of which places tickets can be obtained during the week preceding Easter . Tickets can also be obtained at Victoria , Kensington ( Addison Road ) , Aldgate , the stations on the Hammersmith and City Line , and at most of the stations on the Metropolitan and District Railways . The Booking Office at Paddington Station will be open

for the issue of tickets the whole of the day on Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday , Thursday , and Saturday , before Easter . Tickets obtained in London on any day from March 31 st to April 5 th , will be available for use on either of those days . Cheap tickets at special low fares and available from April 3 rd to 7 th , will be issued from London to the

Yoevil and Weymouth district , and to the principal stations in the West of England , and it is announced that a fast excursion train will leave Paddington on Thursday , April 3 rd , reaching Exeter in 5 V hours and Plymouth in 7 i hours . Excursions will also be run to Leamington , Birmingham , Chester , Cheltenham , Reading , Oxford , Gloucester , Bath ,

Bristol , and other stations on the Great Western system . The newspaper train leaving Paddington at 5 . 30 a . m . will run on Good Friday as usual as far as Oxford , Exeter , and Swansea , and the usual intermediate stations . This train will connect at Oxford with trains to the Worcester , Birmingham , and Wolverhampton districts .

LONDON AND NORTH-WESTERN RAILWAY . The London and North-Western Railway Company announce that the ticket offices at Euston , Broad-street , Kensington , and Willesden Junction will be open throughout the day from Monday , March 31 st , to Monday , April 7 th , inclusive , so that passengers wishing to obtain tickets for any destination on the London and North-VVestern Railway can

do so at any time of the day prior to the starting of the trains . The tickets will be dated to suit the convenience of passengers . Tickets for all the principal stations on the London and North-Western system and its connections can be obtained at any time ( Sundays and Bank Holidays excepted ) at the receiving offices of the Company . The tickets obtained at these offices will be available from

either Euston or Kensington ( Addison-road ) , and will be issued at the same fares as are charged at those stations . The tickets will be dated to suit the convenience of passengers . They can also be obtained at Gaze and Son ' s Tourist Office , 142 , Strand , at the same fares as at Euston Station . On Thursday , April 3 rd , a special express will leave Euston at 2 . 50 p . m . for Bletchley , Northampton ,

Rugby , Trent Valley stations , and Stafford ; a special train will leave Birmingham for Northampton at 4 . 5 p . m ., calling at Stechford , Coventry , and Rugby , and passengers for those places will not be conveyed by the 4 . 0 p . m . express from Birmingham ; the 4 . 10 p . m ., Euston to Kendal , will be extended to Windermere ; a special express train will leave Euston Station at 4 . 20 p . m . for Birmingham , calling

at Willesden Junction , Rugby , Coventry , and Stechford , arriving at Birmingham ( New-street ) at 7 . 5 p . m . ; the 12 . 0 midnight train from Euston will be extended from Warrington to Preston on Good Friday morning . The 10 . 5 p . m . from Glasgow to Carlisle will be extended to Liverpool and Manchester at the following times : leave Carlisle at 1 . 15 a . m . ( Good Friday morning ) , arrive Carnforth 2 . 4 S ,

Lancaster 2 . 59 , Preston 3 . 30 , VVigan 3 . 5 S , Manchester 4 . 45 , and Liverpool 4 . 45 p . m . This train will not run on Saturday morning , April jth ( Good Friday night from Scotland ) . On Good Friday , April 4 th , the 5 . 15 a . m . newspaper express train from London ( Euston Station ) will run to Northampton . Rugby , Nuneaton , Tamworth , Lichfield , Rugeley , Stafford , Crewe , Birmingham , Shrewsbury , Warrington ,

Runcorn , Liverpool , Manchester , Wigan , Preston , Lancaster , Carnforth , Oxenholme , Kendal , Windermere , Tebay , Penrith , Carlisle , Edinburgh , Glasgow , Perth , and Aberdeen . A train will leave Manchester ( Exchange ) at 9 . 30 a . m . for VVigan , where passengers for Preston and the North can join the newspaper train . The 4 . 15 p . m . train , Carlisle to Preston , will be extended to Wigan , Liverpool , St . Helens ,

Tyldesley , and Manchester . The 10 . 40 a . m ., Crewe to Holyhead , and 11 . 40 a . m ., Holyhead to Crewe , will not be run . An additional train will leave Workington for Penrith at 9 . 5 a . m . in connection with the S . 45 a . m . train from Whitehaven . The return train will leave Penrith for Whitehaven at 6 . 0 p . m . The 10 . 5 p . m . train from Glasgow ( leaving Carlisle at 1 . 15 a . m . on Saturday , April 5 th ) for

Preston , Liverpool , and Manchester will not be run . A train will leave Whitehaven for Cockermouth at 7 . 30 p . m ., returning from Cockermouth atS . 30 p . m . ( for intermediate times , see local announcements ) . A service of trains will also be run on the Cleator Joint Line between Whitehaven , Marron Junction , and Sellafield ( for particulars see local announcements . With the above exceptions , die trains of

the Company on Good Friday will run as on Sundays . On Friday night and Saturday morning , April 4 th and 5 th , the 11 . 41 p . m . and 12 . 5 p . m . trains from Carlisle will run as usual ; the 12 . 10 a . m ., Holyhead to Crewe , 4 . 30 a . m ., Holyhead to Chester , and 2 . 25 a . m ., Chester to Liverpool , will not be run on Saturday morning , there being no boats from North Wall or Greenore on the evening of Good Friday .

Passengers for Belfast ( via Larne ) and the North of Ireland will leave Euston by the S . 50 p . m . train , instead of the S . o p . m . from Euston . On Bank Holiday , Easter Monday , April 7 th , the express trains to and from the City , St . Albans , Watford , and Kensington , will not be run . Numerous residental trains will be discontinued on Bank Holiday , Easter Monday , April 7 th , the particulars of which will be advertised locally . The Company also announce that they

will run excursions to and from London and Wolverhampton , Leamington , Coventry , Walsall , Leicester , Burton , Macclesfield , Stoke , Stone , Derby , Liverpool , Manchester , Chester , North Wales , Shrewsbury , Hereford , Oswestry , Preston , Wigan , Blackpool , Morecambe , Carlisle , the Lake District , and other places , and from London to Edinburgh and Glasgow for the Football Match at the latter place on April 5 th .

GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY . The Great Northern Railway Company announce that on Thursday , April 3 rd , cheap six days' excursion trains will be run to and from London ( King ' s Cross ) and Scarborough , Whitby , York , Bradford , Keighley , Halifax , Leeds , Wakefield , Doncaster , Huddersfield , Liverpool , Southport , Manchester , Sheffield , Leicester , Derby , Nottingham , Hull ,

Grimsby , Lincoln , Gainsborough , Lynn , Norwich , Yarmouth , Spalding , Wisbech , Cambridge , Sic . On Good Friday , April 4 th , the 5 . 15 a . m . express from King ' s Cross will be run through to Lincoln , Nottingham , Sheffield , Manchester , Wakefield , Leeds , Bradford , Halifax , York , Newcastle , and Scotland . A cheap day

trip will be run from King's Cross , Holloway , Finsbury-Park , & c , to Skegness , Sutton-on-Sea , and Mablethorpe . Tickets will be issued by this excursion available for return on Saturday 5 th , Monday 7 th , or Tuesday Sth . On Good Friday night , a cheap excursion for two days will be run to Edinburgh and Glasgow for the International Football Match ( England v . Scotland ) at Glasgow .

On Easter Monday , April 7 th , cheap day excursions will run from Victoria ( L . C . and D . ) , Ludgate-hill , Moorgatestreet , King ' s Cross , Finsbury Park , & c , to St . Albans , Harpenden , Luton , Dunstable , and Cambridge . A cheap

day trip will also be run from Moorgate-street , King ' s Cross , Holloway , Finsbury Park , & c , to Skegness , Suttonon-Sea , and Maplethorpe . Cheap six days' excursions to London will also be run from Keighley , Halifax , Bradford , Leeds , Wakefield , and York , for one or six days from Derby , Nottingham , and Lincoln , and day excursions from Huntingdon . Cambridge , Luton , Dunstable , & c .

To prevent inconvenience from crowding at the Company ' s principal terminal station , King's Cross , tickets dated in advance will be issued at King's Cross ( G . N . R . ) , Victoria ( L . DISTRICT GRAND LODGE OF CANTERBURY .

The quarterl y communication of the District Grand Lodge of Canterbury was held on the 13 th January , in the St . Augustine Hall , under the presidency of the District Grand Master , Bro . H . Thomson . There vvas a good attendance of officers and members . The business transacted vvas for the most part of a purely formal nature . It included the adoption of the Treasurer ' s balance-sheet and annual statement , the

adoption of the report of the Board of Benevolence , and the adoption also of the recommendations of the Standing Committee . Inter alia it vvas resolved to proceed at once with the erection of a memorial stone over the grave of the late Bro . Dr . Deamer , District Dep . Grand Master , and a small Committee was empowered to act . It is probable that the memorial will take the form of a granite obelisk within a suitable

enclosure . Bro . R . C . Bishop vvas unanimously re-elected District Grand Treasurer , and the annual appointment of officers of District Grand Lodge resulted as follows : Bro . M . of the above lodge , with a very handsome gold jewel as Past Prov . Senior Grand Warden of Devonshire . Bro . Major Tracy ' s

career in Freemasonry is highly distinguished . He was initiated in the Island of Jersey in August , 1861 , in the Yarborough Lodge , No . 244 , and vvas thrice W . M . of that lodge , and the brethren , to mark their high estimation of his services , presented him with a valuable gold Past Master ' s jewel . He also served the

office of Prov . Grand Secretary of Jersey , and on his promotion to Great Yarmouth he received the thanks of the Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret ) for his zeal and attention to the important duties annexed to that appointment . Also served as W . M . in the following lodges , viz .: Friendship ,

No . 100 , Great Yarmouth ; St . David ' s , No . 3 6 , Edinburgh ( twice ); United Service , No . 2258 , Plymouth ; was also a member of the St . John ' s Lodge , No . 1247 , for eight years . Order of St . John the Evangelist ; he has worked with untiring zeal for the Craft generally , whereby his valuable services have been frequently acknowledged by the brethren in England and Scotland in the presentation of handsome testimonials of plate , jewels , and certificates on vellum .

In order to meet the convenience of the public the Great VVestern Railway Company have made arrangements for the issue of excursion and ordinary tickets at their City and West End offices , viz .: 193 and 407 , Oxford Street ; 23 , New Oxford-street ; Holborn Circus ; 29 , Charing Cross ; 26 , Regent-street ; = ; , Arthur-street , East ; London Bridge ; S 2 ,

Oueen Victoria-street ; 43 and 44 . Crutchedfriars ; 67 , Gresnam-street ; 4 , Cheapside , and 269 , Strand , at any of which places tickets can be obtained during the week preceding Easter . Tickets can also be obtained at Victoria , Kensington ( Addison Road ) , Aldgate , the stations on the Hammersmith and City Line , and at most of the stations on the Metropolitan and District Railways . Yoevil and Weymouth district , and to the principal stations in the West of England , and it is announced that a fast excursion train will leave Paddington on Thursday , April 3 rd , reaching Exeter in 5 V hours and Plymouth in 7 i hours . Excursions will also be run to Leamington , Birmingham , Chester , Cheltenham , Reading , Oxford , Gloucester , Bath ,

Bristol , and other stations on the Great Western system . The newspaper train leaving Paddington at 5 . 30 a . m . will run on Good Friday as usual as far as Oxford , Exeter , and Swansea , and the usual intermediate stations . This train will connect at Oxford with trains to the Worcester , Birmingham , and Wolverhampton districts .

LONDON AND NORTH-WESTERN RAILWAY . The London and North-Western Railway Company announce that the ticket offices at Euston , Broad-street , Kensington , and Willesden Junction will be open throughout the day from Monday , March 31 st , to Monday , April 7 th , inclusive , so that passengers wishing to obtain tickets for any destination on the London and North-VVestern Railway can

do so at any time of the day prior to the starting of the trains . The tickets will be dated to suit the convenience of passengers . Tickets for all the principal stations on the London and North-Western system and its connections can be obtained at any time ( Sundays and Bank Holidays excepted ) at the receiving offices of the Company . The tickets obtained at these offices will be available from

either Euston or Kensington ( Addison-road ) , and will be issued at the same fares as are charged at those stations . The tickets will be dated to suit the convenience of passengers . at Willesden Junction , Rugby , Coventry , and Stechford , arriving at Birmingham ( New-street ) at 7 . 5 p . m . ; the 12 . 0 midnight train from Euston will be extended from Warrington to Preston on Good Friday morning . The 10 . 5 p . m . from Glasgow to Carlisle will be extended to Liverpool and Manchester at the following times : leave Carlisle at 1 . 15 a . m . A train will leave Manchester ( Exchange ) at 9 . 30 a . m . for VVigan , where passengers for Preston and the North can join the newspaper train . Tyldesley , and Manchester . The 10 . 40 a . m ., Crewe to Holyhead , and 11 . 40 a . m ., Holyhead to Crewe , will not be run . On Bank Holiday , Easter Monday , April 7 th , the express trains to and from the City , St . Albans , Watford , and Kensington , will not be run . Numerous residental trains will be discontinued on Bank Holiday , Easter Monday , April 7 th , the particulars of which will be advertised locally . The Company also announce that they

On Good Friday , April 4 th , the 5 . 15 a . m . express from King ' s Cross will be run through to Lincoln , Nottingham , Sheffield , Manchester , Wakefield , Leeds , Bradford , Halifax , York , Newcastle , and Scotland . trip will be run from King's Cross , Holloway , Finsbury-Park , & c , to Skegness , Sutton-on-Sea , and Mablethorpe . The quarterl y communication of the District Grand Lodge of Canterbury was held on the 13 th January , in the St . Augustine Hall , under the presidency of the District Grand Master , Bro . H . Thomson . There vvas a good attendance of officers and members . The business transacted vvas for the most part of a purely formal nature . It included the adoption of the Treasurer ' s balance-sheet and annual statement , the

adoption of the report of the Board of Benevolence , and the adoption also of the recommendations of the Standing Committee . Inter alia it vvas resolved to proceed at once with the erection of a memorial stone over the grave of the late Bro . Dr . Deamer , District Dep . Grand Master , and a small Committee was empowered to act . It is probable that the memorial will take the form of a granite obelisk within a suitable

enclosure . Bro . R . C . Bishop vvas unanimously re-elected District Grand Treasurer , and the annual appointment of officers of District Grand Lodge resulted as follows : Bro .
