Mackenzie , which had been subscribed for by those connected with the Academy , as a congratulatory gift on the Principal having had the honour of knighthood conferred upon him by her Majesty .

THE DUKE OF SAXE-COBURG GOTIIA has returned to Clarence House from Kiel , where he had been to witness the opening of the Baltic and North Sea Canal , while the Duchess has concluded her visit to the Duchess of Albany at Claremont .
BRO . THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE gave a dinner party at Devonshire House , Piccadilly , on Monday , and on Tuesday the Duchess visited Eastbourne and opened a Fancy Fair in behalf of the three new Voluntary Schools which have recently been erected at a cost of £ 1 i , ooo . THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER , who was accompanied by the Duchess , visited the Queen's Hall on Tuesday , for the purpose of opening the national bazaar in aid of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children . There was a large and fashionable attendance during the day .
THE SECOND and final meet of the season . of the Coaching Club was held on the Horse Guards' Parade , St . James's Park , on Wednesday , there being present 29 coaches , headed by that of Bro . THE DUCHESS OF TECK has very kindly consented to be present at the annual review of the London Fire Brigade , and distribute the medals awarded by the London County Council during the past 12 months to the officers and men for conspicuous bravery , or long service , and good conduct . The review will take place on Clapham Common , on Saturday , the Gth July .
THE FESTIVAL DINNER of the Philanthropic Society ' s Farm School was held at Sadlers' Hall on VVednesday evening . Warwickshire , occupied the chair , and was well and influentially supported . The prizes to the girls were presented by Lady Sawyer , and those to the boys by the Chairman . A cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Sir James and Lady Sawyer , which was carried by acclamation , brought the proceedings to a close .
H . R . H . THB PRINCE OF WALES presided on Wednesday morning at a meeting , held at Marlborough House , of the Governors of Wellington College . In the evening he dined with the Hon . George and Mrs . Curzon at their residence in Carlton Houseterrace , to meet his Highness the Shahzada , and subsequently was present at an evening party given by the President of the Board of Trade and Mrs . Bryce , at the Foreign Office , to the members of the International Railway Congress .
ON THURSDAY , the 20 th inst ., a capital treat was given to about 40 boys of the Formidable Training Ship , off Portishead , who are trained as a choir by Bro . E . Davey , second master , to lead the singing at the services on board . In charge ot Bro . Davey they were taken in a brake to Yatton , where a good m eal awaited them . They afterwards indulged in cricket and other games . Captain Still met them and witnessed their enjoyment . The lads were highly delighted with the outing .

September . The night services to Scotland will be improved by the addition of the Highland express—from July 22 nd to August 9 th ( Saturdays and Sundays excepted ) , leaving King's Cross 7 . 30 p . m . and running in advance of the mail train from Perth to Inverness ; whilst an additional express train will leave King ' s Cros- ; at io p . m . ( Saturdays and Sundays excepted ) , until . v'th September , givmsi an exceedingly smart service with Edinburgh , Glasgow , Craigendoran , Oban , Fort William , Perth , Dundee , Aberdeen , Inverness , & c . Many of the express trains to Scotland , iVc , have been accelerated .

THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE gave a dinner party at Devonshire House , Piccadilly , on Monday , and on Tuesday the Duchess visited Eastbourne and opened a Fancy Fair in behalf of the three new Voluntary Schools which have recently been erected at a cost of £ 1 i , ooo . THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER , who was accompanied by the Duchess , visited the Queen's Hall on Tuesday , for the purpose of opening the national bazaar in aid of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children . There was a large and fashionable attendance during the day .

THE FANCY DRESS BALL which is annually given in aid of the Royal Caledonian Asylum and the Royal Scottish Hospital took piece at the Hotel Metropole , on Monday evening , under the patronage of her Majesty the Queen , and many members of the Royal Family . THE DUCHESS OF TECK has very kindly consented to be present at the annual review of the London Fire Brigade , and distribute the medals awarded by the London County Council during the past 12 months to the officers and men for conspicuous bravery , or long service , and good conduct . The review will take place on Clapham Common , on Saturday , the Gth July .
THE FESTIVAL DINNER of the Philanthropic Society ' s Farm School was held at Sadlers' Hall on VVednesday evening . THE ANNUAL distribution of prizes to the children attending the Birmingham Bluecoat Schools took place on Friday , the 21 st instant . Bro . Sir James Sawyer , Prov . S . G . W . Warwickshire , occupied the chair , and was well and influentially supported . The prizes to the girls were presented by Lady Sawyer , and those to the boys by the Chairman . A cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Sir James and Lady Sawyer , which was carried by acclamation , brought the proceedings to a close .
H . R . H . THB PRINCE OF WALES presided on Wednesday morning at a meeting , held at Marlborough House , of the Governors of Wellington College . In the evening he dined with the Hon . George and Mrs . Curzon at their residence in Carlton Houseterrace , to meet his Highness the Shahzada , and subsequently was present at an evening party given by the President of the Board of Trade and Mrs . Bryce , at the Foreign Office , to the members of the International Railway Congress .
ON THURSDAY , the 20 th inst ., a capital treat was given to about 40 boys of the Formidable Training Ship , off Portishead , who are trained as a choir by Bro . E . Davey , second master , to lead the singing at the services on board . In charge ot Bro . Davey they were taken in a brake to Yatton , where a good m eal awaited them . They afterwards indulged in cricket and other games . Captain Still met them and witnessed their enjoyment . The lads were highly delighted with the outing .

Tney were at once driven to the Town Hall , where an address of welcome was delivered to them , and the aldermen presented . Un Wednesday they visited the show , and expressed themselves well pleased with the different classes of exhibits .
