Analysis Of The Returns.

There is no need for us to go much into detail as to what YORKSHIRE ( W . RIDING ) does regularly for our three Institutions . On special Occasions it contributes larfely , but it is always ready and willing to give what is both just and generous . In February , it subscribed , by the hands of 35 Stewards hailing from 20 of its 82

lodges , £ 715 for the Old People . Last month , with 100 Stewards to represent it , it gave £ 1650 to the Girls' School , and on Wednesday , its 16 Stewards , of whom 13 acted for 10 lodges , compiled a total of £ 300 , placing the aggregate for the year at £ 2665 . Its record year is 1898 , when , including £ 6136 3 s . 6 d . to the Boys' Centenary , it contributed in all £ 7956 3 s .

FOREIGN STATIONS , to the number of 10 , and scattered all over the world , are entered for a total of / leS . ' ns ., this Institution showing to great advantage as compared with the Old People which received only one list of £ S 14 s . from a South African lodge , and the Girls' School , which had £ 31 10 s ., the number of represented Stations being three .

CONCLUDING REMARKS . It only remains for us in bringing our task to a close , to express the hope that in what we have said , we have had the good fortune to avoid offending Provinces , lodge , and brother .

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES . The annual distribution of prizes in connection with the above School was held at the Institution , Wood Green , on Monday , the 24 th instant . Prior to the commencement of the proceedings , the large assembly hall was almost filled with visitors , friends of scholars , and the boys themselves , the company being entertained with selections on the organ by Mr . Bro . BEVIR , Chairman of the Board of Management , having formally welcomed Bro . and Mrs . Beach and the other visitors , referred in feeling terms to the death of his predecessor , Bro . Out of ; , co boys between 260 and 270 were inmates of the School , while nearly 30 were receiving Ihe higher education for bo ) s of promise oyer 15 years of age , a system of education they desired to see extended . The

speaker then made reference to some of the many excellent results achieved by the School in late years , and quoted from the examiners' report to show that last year had in many respects exceeded those of any previous year . In conclusion he appealed to the boys to woik well for themselves and for the School that did so much to enable them to be worthy subjects of a good King and citizens of a great Empire .

Kev . H . A . HEJJH , M . A ., the Headmaster , dwelt at some length on the improvement manifest in the School in nearly every direction , and paid a graceful tribute to the assistance he received from his teaching stall ' , Messrs . Crane , Roberts , Pinhom , Francombe , and Needham . He reviewed the

progress being made in shorthand and music particularly , and referred to the educative influences of the Natural History Society . In gymnastics they had an excellent instructor in Sergt . Z ., P . P . G . S . N ., and he was congratulated on the healthy aspect of the chapter funds , the balance in hand being the highest for many years . A new feature in this chapter this year was that each outgoing Principal installed his successor , viz ., Comp . R . Swindells , M . E . Z ., installed Comp . James Ormrod as M . E Z . ; Co np . We hear that only in one other chapter in East or West Lancashire , viz ., the Affability Chapter , No . 317 , East Lancashire , is it the custom for each outgiinj Principal to install his successor , and we congratulate these two chapters on having such able companions , and mother chapters would only do the same , Royal Arch Masonry would be in a more flourishing and popular condition than at the present time . After " Hearty good wishes" were given from Grand and Provincial Grand O . licers and companions generally , the chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to the Brooklands Hotel to have thc annual gam : of bowls . A most wonderful band will play at the Crystal Palace on 6 th July , when a military concert , under Royal patronage , will b ; given in aid of Service Charities . After " Hearty good wishes" were given from Grand and Provincial Grand O . licers and companions generally , the chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to the Brooklands Hotel to have thc annual gam : of bowls . At C . 30 , the companions sat down to a well-served banqiet , under the presidency of Comp . James Ormrod , M . E . Z .
