The CHAIRMAN , in response , said he was well aware of his shortcomings , and that he had but inadequately represented them in the chair . He should carry away the liveliest sense of gratitude for the welcome given him . Although he was not an fnit with thc

details of the ritual he would yield to none in his desire to further Freemasonry upon thc greater and more lasting basis upon which it rested . Last year he stood a very sevely-contested election . He did not take much personal interest in that election so far as going and asking for votes . He merely left it in the hands of the brethren , and he must honestly say thc result

was most gratifying to him . He could only hope he had so conducted himself that those who supported him would not regret what they had done , and it would always be his hope to merit their good esteem . Other toasts , including " The Visitors , " " The Permanent Officers , Working Officers , and Festival

Stewards , " and "The Bank of England Lodge " ( under whose sanction the lodge of instruction is carried on ) were given before the proceedings terminated . Bros . Kirby , Alliston Lister , Thornton , and others , assisted in the musical programme , and Bro . Sudlow kindly contributed a recitation .

BRO . SIR E . A . H . LECHMERE , Bart ., M . P ., Prov . G . Master of Worcestershire Bro . Sir E . A . H . Lechmere , Bart ., M . P ., to whose painfully sudden death on thc 18 th inst ., we briefly referred last week , had been a member of our Order for some 46 years , having been installed during his academic course at Christ Church , Oxford , in thc

Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , as far back as thc year 1848 . Twelve years later , we read of his being installed in the chair of the Worcester Lodge , No . 280 , of which , in the interim , he had been elected a joining member . Subsequently , he was appointed Prov . S . G . W ., and then Deputy P . G . M . ol Worcestershire , and in 187 S , on the resignation of

Bro . A . H . Boyd , he was appointed by his Royal Highness the M . W . G . Master to succeed that distinguished brother as Prov . G . Master of Worcestershire . Two years later he succeeded Comp . Boyd as G . Superintendent ol R . A . Masons in the same province . In 1858 , and again in 1862 , he served as S . G . Warden of the G . Mark Lodge , and in 1 S 68 presided

as W . M . over the Mark Lodge , No . 59 , Worcester , which hears his name . He was a strong supporter of our Institutions , was a Vice-President of the Girls ' School and a Life Governor of the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution , and had served twice as Steward for the Girls'School and once in a like capacity for each of thc others . He was , moreover , a great friend to

Masonic literature , and gave his patronage to the very successful Masonic Exhibition which was held at Worcester in 1884 . Outside Freemasonry he will be remembered chiefly as a keen politician , but even above and beyond this for thc successful part he played in the organisation of that most valuable of our Eng lish

Charitable Institutions the Si . John ' s Ambulance Association , ol which we believe be was ihe President . The loss of such a man will be long and severely lolt in Worcestershire , and the utmost sympathy has been felt for his widow and family . Among those present at the funeral were the relatives and friends of the deceased , while amongst those who sent representatives was H . R . H . ihe Prince of Wales .

BRO . SIR E . A .
