Provincial Meetings.

The installation banquet was subsequently held , the VVorshipful Alaster , Bro . George Abbott , presiding . After thc usual loyal and Misonic toasts , Bro . Trew , in submitting the toast of the evening , said it was one which he th ujjit should have been lett in the hands of one of the Past Masters of thc lodge , lie , however , had been called upon to submit thc toast at very short

notice—if was the wish of thc W . AL that he should do so , and the W . M . could not err—and he , therefore , had very great pleasure in proposing " The Health of their esteemed Worshipful Master , Bro . George Abbott , lie was sure every brother of his lodge ought to feel highly pleased and delighted to think that they had got such a Worshipful Master to preside over them during the ensuing year . He

( Bro . Trow ) had been given to understand that of late the lodge had bsen in an awkward position with regard to officers coming forward , ind the offices had been lillcd by Past Alasteis of thc ledge . Every Mason knew that while these offices were held continually by P . AIs , there was no chance for the younger brethren to get on . However , he was informed that their Worshipful Master had taken a

step in the right direction , and through his energy had been able to invest his officers Irom the fljor of the lodge . He was sure that with such a true and good-hearted M ason as Bro . George Abbott as their Worshipful Master thc lodge would , during his year ol ollice , be resuscitated , and become one of thc best lodges in the province . He was asked by Bro . Abbott to instal him in the chair , and he was

proud to have installed one of thc best Masons in thc province of Suffolk . 'I h : Worshipful Master , in thanking the brethren , and especially his old and esteemed friend , Bro . Trew , assured them of his interest in the lodge from the first day he became a member of it . He had passed through every ollice in the lodge , and 11 years ago was placed in the

chair . That year , he said , was a most successful onenot that he attributed the success to his individual efforts , but at that time they had some invaluable members of the lodge , whose only thought and desire was to carry out the interests of Freemasonry to the best intent . They had also a large number of members , but times had changed . They lost several excellent members , other lodges sprung

up—he did not mean were created—but were not in such good fettle as St . Luke ' s was at that time , but they had now , to a certain extent , in numbers , run St . Luke's off the road . They had , however , some splendid officers this year , and he was fully persuaded that they would have something to do at their next meeting , and they would find that the officers of the lodge would do their work as well as

any other lodge in Ipswich . In conclusion he expressed his intention of doing all in his power to forward the prosperity of thc lodge , but at thc same time he asked for the support of the brethren generally at the lodge meetings , as it gave the officers more zest in the discharge of their work , and with more satisfaction to themselves and credit to the Craft . He next proposed " The Health of the Installing Master ,

( Bro . Trew ) , " ol whose good works as a Mas in he spoke in the most eulogistic terms , mentioning in illustration that a lodge at Forest Gate , which had only been constituted four or live years , and of which Bro . 'Trew was P . M . and Sec , had contributed something like £ 500 to the Charities . Bro . Tew suitably responded , and other toasts foil rived . The evening ' s enjoyment was much enhanced by the

musical brethren . A duet for concertina , " Do you hear the lark i" was contributed by Bro . J . VV . B . King , and his son Mr . Frank King , with much effect , while Air . John B . King charmed the company with a violin obbligato , " The lost chord , " the vocal soloist being Bro . George Pick , wbo , as usual , was in splendid voice . A solo concertina by Bro . J . W . B .
