iEALEXANDRIACIGARETTECO.'S NEW BRAND . DRAGOUMIS. PREPARED OF THE PUREST TURKISH TOBACCOS . The highest classes of tobacco , however , are converted into the well-known " Dragoumis , " for which the Alexandria Cigarette Company have gained a deservedly high reputation , and we have no hesitation in saying , after a practical test so far as our taste and judgment permit , that they are superior to any we have yet tried , either imported or otherwise . — Whitehall Review . Their latest brand , " Dragoumis , " made of a skilful blend of fine Egyptian tobaccos , is full of flavour , yet delicately fragrant enough to please the most fastidious palate . We shall be surprised if "Dragoumis" do not prove the cigarette of the season . —Pump Court .

BINDING OF THE 17 S 4 CONSTITUTIONS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , I see enquiries in the Freemason regarding the ainding of the 17 S 4 Constitutions . I have two copies—one is bound in blue roan and has \ bordering on both covers , formed by calipers and compasses . On the front cover there is an ornament composed of an open book , which has on it Hebrew characters

irradiated—the book is surrounded by Masonic tools . The reverse cover has a circular scroll containing a double triangle and globe . The back is covered with scroll work , in which are two crossed compasses containing the letter G ; there are also sars of corn , a quill pen , and a stylus depicted . The other copy is plainly but handsomely bound in tree : alf , with a simple tooled edging , but it has Masonic ievices on the back . —Yours faithfully ,

AN APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE TO BUILD A LODGE AT KISSINGEN , BAVARIA . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Many of your readers are undoubtedly aware , that although Masonry flourishes in Germany , for Catholic countries , such as Bavaria , where liberalism is not quite in

its zenith , our brethren have to cope with great difficulties and not unfrequently with bigotry still rampant in that enlightened country . Kissingen , a watering place—not a resort of pleasure—such as Baden-Baden and Homburgh , but where genuine seekers of health—the restoration thereof—resort to annually , is but a small and not over prosperous town . The inhabitants whereof have to gather

their harvest for the year during the three summer months . Masonic life in Germany is somewhat different from that Df England or America . Inasmuch as social life—I might almost say—family life , is closely associated with the Masonic duties of the Fraternity . In large and medium towns , where Masons exist , lodges are not held in public buildings , but they have invariably one or more

( according to their requirements ) buildings entirely devoted to the Cralt . Those lodges answer at the same time the purpose of a club , where members congregate nightly—sometimes—always , however , twice a week—not necessarily for work , but recreation and social intercourse . At certain times , three or four times a month , the brethren bring the ladies of their families , when musical

entertainments are enjoyed . An impetus is thus given through the medium of the " Sisters , " as the wives , daughters , and sisters of Masons are called ( and these , let me say , evince a good deal of pride in the advancemsnt thus accorded to them . ) The feeling thus engendered is not only of a happy , but most beneficial result . Kissingen has Masons , and a lodge in a part of a

building most unsuitable for the purpose . During the winter the brethren meet regularly . During the bathing season , however they are too much occupied in their different avocations , their main support being the visitors—that they are unable to offer any hospitality to their guests J besides , they possess no suitable place to entertain them , had they any such desire .

A few gentlemen—members of the Craft—who annually resort to the place , have formed a Committee , with the object of creating a summer lodge of recreation , chiefly for the visitors ( brethren ) who are compelled to resort to the baths for their health . Twice a week ( once , ladies belonging to the families ot brethren are received ) a meeting is held in the dining

room of a hotel . On "ladies' night" excellent musicinstrumental and vocal—is indulged in , and the pleasant * est evening I have spent at that hill-surrounded and somewhat fossilized town , has been at the " Frei Maurer Club . " The Committee of Management consists of brethren recruited from various parts of Germany , gentlemen of

refinement and urbanity . At the head is Dr . G . Laudien , who acts pro tern , as W . M . An effort has recently been made to subscribe an amount sufficient to enable them to build a regular lodge . A certain amount is now in the hands of the Committee , but barely sufficient to warrant them in commencing to build . Germany is not a rich country ; Bavaria is priest-ridden .

The authorities , from the highest down , are inimicalnay , hostile—to our Order . The immense difficulties these gentlemen have to cope with are simply stupendous . ' During one of my visits to the Masonic Club , the remarkable fact of over £ 50 , 000 having been raised at the Festival for the Girls' School , last June , was broached and commented upon . It filled with delight and pride

every heart ; it passed their comprehension . Their slender purse is at at all times open to those in distress ; not only those appertaining to the Order , but regardless of sect or creed . I was present on an occasion when it was announced that a poor labourer had recently been stricken , and instantly the purse-strings expanded , and a not inconsiderable sum was at once voted for the poor

widow . Misfortune or want never appeal to them in vain ; they are always ready to assuage both . Now , cannot something be done to assist our brethren ? Fifty or a hundred pounds would greatly assist them in their project . Let it be remembered that this will be a lodge open

to all , irrespective of nationality . Will you , dear brother Editor , appeal to some of our English brethren to contribute their mite—if only a pittance —to so deserving a work . The fruit it will bear , and the gladness and sunshine it will create , will recoil upon the donors .
