Repores Of Masonic Meetings.

following the noble example of thc two great noblemen who led them , endeavoured to promote the prestige of their time honoured society , which made no distinction between colour or creed . He was delighted to be present to see Bro . Alsett installed as W . M . That day—the 21 st March —was a day highly prized amongst Indians for they regarded it a < : the beginning of the new year—Jamshedi

Naoroj—and in this country it was regarded as the commencerrent of spring . In Bombay , where he was born , Masonic lodges under the English and Scotch Constitutitions met under one roof to celebrate the fact that winter had gone and that they had begun a new year . That gathering , which was of a cosmopolitan character , was a sight well worth seeing , and the Duke of Connaught would

endeavour to make his appearance as the District Grand Master . He was with them that evening- in his capacity of Prov . Grand Treasurer , for which honour he was greatly indebted to the Craft in general , and particularly to Bro . Dr . Pocock , whom he was glad to see present , and who had the courage to propose him for election against his own countrymen . He was also the S . G . VV . for Surrey ,

for which he was indebted to their popular Prov . G . M ., Bro . General Brownrigg , who was now absent from England , but they would all join in asking that the G . A . O . T . U . would pour down the abundance of His grace upon him . In conclusion he trusted that any brother from the East would receive the same reception as he had received if he brought with him the tongue of good report .

Bro . F . West , Dep . P . G . M ., in response to the toast of "The Prov . G . M ., the D . P . G . M ., and Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " said it was with sincere regret that he had to tell them that their P . G . M . was not able to take that part in the work of the Province of Surrey that he bad done to their entire satisfaction for so many years past . He was sorry therefore that he had to take his place , as he

had done for the past 12 months , but he need hardly say it was a work ot very great pleasure . He was thus performing a duty , but at the same time a labour of love , because he felt he was carrying out the wishes of a Mason who had endeared himself to his province by _ the admirable manner in which he had performed the duties appertaining to his office , and to whose example , as the W . M . had remarked ,

the province owed its success . He was glad to find that example appreciated in such an excellent lodge as the Wallington Lodge . It was a great pleasure to be present once more on the installation night , and to find that there still existed in it the same respect for the principles of Masonry , the performance of Masonic duties , and the inculcation of everything Masonic and fraternal . He thanked them for

the kind'way in which the W . M . had introduced the toast , and the brethren for their cordial reception of it . He could only say he hoped that as long as the P . G . M . was pleased to call upon him to undertake office he might be able to perform the duties to their satisfaction , as he believed he had hitherto done . He had to thank the brethren of this lodge for the splendid arrangements made

last July for the reception of the provincial meeting . Those arrangements were carried out with such perfection , that only one who so thoroughly had the interests of Masonry at heart as Bro . Pile could have done it . He believed it was the most successful meeting the province had ever held , and the thanks of the entire province were due to Bro . Pile for the success of the gathering . The

next Provincial Grand Lodge would be held at Caterham under the care of the Caterham Lodge , of which Bro . Sandeman was the Secretary , and he thought he might prophecy that with such a Secretary they would have everything arranged to their satisfaction . He wished the W . M . a prosperous year of office , and if that brother only followed the splendid example of the P . M . 's , he would

retire with the same eclat , and that he might do so was the sincere wish of the Dep . Prov . G . Master . " The Health of the W . M . and Success to the Wallington Lodge " was given by the Dep . Prov . G . Master . He was sure the lodge would not have elected Bro . Aslett to his high office unless the members were perfectly satisfied he was worthy of the chair . This being the case , it was

the duty of all those who elected him to do their best to support him . For the successful management of the affairs of the lodge , it was not only necessary that they should have a VV . Master of considerable experience in Masonry , but that he should have good officers . If he could particularise one , he thought that the life and soul of the lodge was the Secretary , for the W . M . ' s duties were

of a manifold nature , and those duties owed a great deal of their success to the way in which the details were arranged by the responsible-offices . He had attended the lodge many times , and had found the W . M . not only Perfect in the duties , but thoroughly understanding the business of the lodge , and extending the right hand of fellowship to the visitors . In the W . M . that evening they

had one who would fulfil the difficult qualifications that were essentially necessary for the credit of the lodge . He hoped Bro . Aslett would retire with the feeling that he had entirel y deserved the confidence reposed in him , and that at the next installation meeting it would be said that he had not disgraced the warrant handed over to him . That he was a popular W . M . he ( Bro . West ) had not the

slightest doubt , from the large gathering he saw present . Ihe brethren would heartily join in drinking the health of the W . M ., wishing him every prosperity and success which 'hey , as Masons , could offer him . Bro . H . D . Aslett , W . M ., in reply , said a sense of the

original prevented him from saying it was the proudest moment of his life . He had a difficult task to perform to adequatel y thank them for the way in which they had « funk his health . He had also to thank them for the [ "onour done him in the lodge , which he would do his best to deserve .

'Ihe Initiates" having been given , and responded to y ? - J ° . ? s and Sabine , y . Ihe Visitors" was cordially given by the Worshipful Bro . Lewis , P . M . 945 , in reply , said he regarded it as an ° nour to be selected as the first spokesman on behalf of had vtsit ° u ' In Masonry theycou , d not but feel that thev u much to be thankful for—helpfulness and

lengthy remarks . He could , however , dilate for a very long period upon the excellent working of the lodge , and the manner in which the members had hospitably entertained the visitors . It was from the bottom of his heart that he congratulated the members upon having placed in the chair his friend Bro . Aslett , whom he had known for some years . He was convinced that the more they knew of the W . M . the more they would like and respect him , and congratulate themselves upon having elected him as

W . M . Bro . Humphreys , P . P . S . G . W . Essex , and other brethren also responded . Several brethren having to leave by train for town , the chair was assumed by the I . P . M ., and other toasts given ,

including " The P . M . 's " and " The Officers . " The Tyler ' s toast closed a successful and pleasant gathering . Under the auspices of the Laurel Glee Union , a selection of music was given , Mr . John Rudkin , R . A . M ., conducting , and Bro . J . Newcastle presiding at the pianoforte .

for which he was indebted to their popular Prov . G .

Lewis , P . lengthy remarks .
