S . G . W . from the latter year to 1 S 90 . He is likewise S . D . of the Hertford Mark Lodge ,

No . 3 66 , honorary member of the Broxbourne Mark Lodge , No . 428 , and a subscribing member of the Grand Master ' s Lodge , and lastly , J . G . D . of the Mark Grand Lodge . He is a P . E . C . of the Stewart Encampment , No . 28 , of Knights Templar at Watford , and a Past Prior of the Order of Malta , M . P . S . elect of the Premier Conclave of the Order of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine ; and having served three years on the Grand Senate ,

and one year on the Grand Council , now holds the office of Grand Architect . He is Marshal of the Invicta Rose Croix Chapter , No . 10 , in the A . and A . Rite * , and in addition , is an officer of the Bruce Chapter , as well as of the Provincial Grand Lodge and Chapter of the Royal Order o ( Scotland for London and the Home Counties ; a member of the Constantine Council , No . 2 , Royal and Select Masters ; of the

Rose and Lily Council , No . 15 , of the Allied Masonic Degrees ; and of the Horatio Shirley Conclave , No . 5 , of the . Order of the Secret Monitor . As regards the Masonic Charities , he is a Patron of both Schools and the Benevolent Institution , a Provincial Member of thc Board of Management of the Boys' Institution , and one of the Trustees of the R . M . B . I ., and has served some 1 ^ Stewardships in their behalf , his

greatest success having been achieved at the Jubilee of the Benevolent , when he returned a list of upwards of £ 600 . Moreover , when W . M . of the Watford Lodge , he made it a Vice-Patron of the Benevolent and a Vice-President of the Girls' Institution . He is the Hon . Secretary of the Hertfordshire Charitable Association , and a Vice-President of , and has served three Stewardships for , the Mark Benevolent Fund . Lastly , in

1877 , when it was proposed to raise a fund among the Freemasons of England towards restoring some portion of the Abbey of St . Albans , Bro . Keyser was appointed Hon . Secretary , the Prince of Wales and other distinguished Masons giving the scheme their cordial support , and constituting themselves Vice-Patrons of the Fund , the result being the erection of a very handsome pulpit , which in 188 3 was unveiled and formally handed over to the custody of the Cathedral authorities by Bro . T . 1 <\ Halsey , M . P ., Prov . Grand Master of Hertfordshire .

Bro . PERCEVAL A . NAIRNE vvas initiated on the 20 th November , 1 S 62 , in the Caveac Lodge , No . 205—now No . 176—and has been twice elected to the chair of W . M ., namely , in 1868 , and for the second time in 1874 . In 1870 he assisted in founding the Sp hinx Lodge , No . 1329 , of vvhich in 1 S 76 he was elected W . M ., and in 1876 was a founder of the Crichton Lodge , No . 1641 . He was exalted in the Mount Zion Chapter , No . 22 , on nth

February , 1867 , and having joined the Caveac Chapter , No . 176 , was installed M . E . Z . in 1870 and for the second time , ten years later , while in the interval hc presided in the same capacity over the Sphinx Chapter , No . 1329 . He is a Life Governor of the Boys' School and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution and a supporter of the Girls' School , while he has served the office of Festival Steward for all three .

DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . G . H . HOPKINSON was initiated in the Tuscan Lodge , No . 14 , on the 22 nd February , 1876 , and having filled the various minor offices , was elected and installed W . M . in 1883 . He was exalted in the British Chapter , No . 8 , on the ist March , 1878 , and occupied the chair of First Principal in 1885 . He is also a member of the Grand Metropolitan Chapter , No . 1 , Rose Croix , in the Ancient and Accepted Rite . He has served as Festival Steward for , and is a Life Governor of , each of the Masonic Institutions .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . H . J . STRONG , J . P ., was initiated more than 30 years ago in the liast Surrey Lodge of Concord , No . 463 , Croydon , and on the 5 th April , 1866 , was installed in the chair of W . M . Since then he has presided in the same capacity over the Frederick Lodge of Unity , No . 452 , and thc Lodgeof Friendship and Harmony , No . 1616 , Weybridge , which hc joined

in 1883 . ln lhc Provincial Grand Lodge of Surrey he has served successively as Prov . G . Steward , Prov . G . Deacon , and Prov . J . G . W ., and on the 23 rd July of last year hc had the still greater honour conferred upon him of being appointed to ihe chair of Prov . S . G . W . ln Royal Arch Alasonry hc has borne a similarly conspicuous part , having been exalted in the Frederick Chapterof Unity , No . 452 , on the nth June , 186 3 , and installed M . E . Z .

firstly in 18 ( 18 , and for the second time in 1870 , while in 186 7 he was Z . of the East Surrey Chapter of Concord , No . 463 . In Prov . Grand Chapter hc has been appointed Prov . G . P . S ., Prov . G . S . N ., and Prov . G . J . He is a Life Governor and has served as Steward for the Girls' and Boys' Schools , and besides having acted six times as Steward for the Old People , has qualified as Vice-Patron of that Charity . But his greatest claim on the

esteem and respect of the Craft is due to the services hc has rendered to thc Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution in his capacity of Honorary Surgeon to the inmates of the Asylum at Croydon , to whom for upwards of 30 years he has been not only their able medical adviser , but likewise one of their truest and best of friends , and by whom , consequently , as by his neighbours round about , he is as much beloved as he is esteemed and respected .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . FuiroirKicK W . COLES was initiated on the 7 th February , 1877 , in the Buckingham and Chandos Lorlge , No . 11511 . He has constituted himself a Vice-President of the three Charitable Institutions , and has served two Stewardships for the Girls ' School—in 1886 and at the Centenary Festival in 1888—and has returned his name to act in a like capacity for the Boys' School at its approaching Festival in lunc .

GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . S . V . ABRAHAM , whose career we sketched briefly last year , when he was appointed Assistant Grand Pursuivant .

ASSISTANT GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . THOMAS MINSTRELL was initiated in the Vitruvian Lodge , No . 87 , on the nth February , 1874 , and was installed W . M . in 1 S 87 . In the interval , however , he had become a founder of the very popular Gallery Lodge , No . 192 S , and having served as W . M . in 1884 , is now its Secretary .

On the 5 th May , 1881 , he was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Metropolitan Chapter , No , 1507 , and has filled all the offices up to and inclusive of that of First Principal . He is also a founder and P . Z . of the Gallery Chapter . He is a Life Governor of our three Institutions and has acted as Festival Steward for them all .
