There was no work to be done , except that arising at the time .

A petition was read from a brother who was initiated in this lodge , and upon whom misfortunes had fallen ; and upon the motion of Bro . Long , P . " Hearty good wishes " having been expressed by the visiting brethren the lodge was closed . The brethren afterwards sat down to a most recherche *

banquet to celebrate the Festival of St . John . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were subsequently proposed and responded to . Bros . VV . H . Bibbey , P . G . J . D ., and E . J . Cummings , replied on behalf of " The Prov . G . Officers . " The I . P . M ., Bro . Kenneth McLean , proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " which was heartily drank , and responded to by the W . M .

lhe VV . M ., in return , proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., " and in the course of his remarks said that to some minds gratitude was thanks for favours to come , but with respect to the LP . M . he ( the W . M . ) thought the members of the Egerton Lodge ought to express their gratitude to Bro . McLean for what he had done and , in other words , for the admirable manner in which he had performed his duties during the past year , and it afforded him ( the

W . M . ) the greatest imaginable pleasure to present Bro . McLean , in the name of the brethren , with a P . M . ' s gold jewel , and in pinning it upon his breast , he felt convinced that no member of the Craft had ever been more worthily decorated , and hoped he would always regard it as a mark of esteem and gratitude from the brethren of his lodge . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ,

47 , Bridge-street , Manchester . The LP . M . expressed his thanks to the brethren for their present , and to the W . M . for his kind remarks . Dumville , and others . Uro . Enos Andrew , P . P . G . Org ., rendering good service on thc piano .

MANCHESTER . —De Grey and Ripon Lodge ( No . 11 G 1 ) . —A meeting of this lodge took place on Wednesday , the 20 th inst ., in the Town Hall Buildings , for the purpose of reinstalling the VV . M ., Bro . A . H . Jefferis , for another period of eleven months . It is certainly a very unusual circumstance for a W . M . to serve a double term of office , at any _ rate in Manchester , their being as a rule plenty of aspirants to that proud position , at the same time

it may be taken for granted that the advisers , so to speak , or rulers of the lodge , had good grounds for recommending this departure , in the first place for the good and future prosperity of the lodge , and secondly to mark their appreciation of a brother who in many ways has rendered exceptionally valuable services to his lodge . Another departure from the usual course was the appointment o £ Past Masters to fill the various offices for the ensuing year ,

which proceeding , although not being satisfactory to all the members will , it is to be hoped , prove conducive to the prosperity of the lodge . Amongst those present at the meeting were Bros . A . H . Jefferis , W . M . ; W . Nicholson , j . W . ; B . Carr , Sec ; J . Hothcrsall , J . D . ; Joblrlam , " I . P . M . ; S . P . Bidder , P . M . ; Julius Arensbergh , P . M ., P . P . G . P . ; W . W . 317 ( Freemason ) . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . After the usual preliminaries the VV . M ., Bro . A . H . Jefferis , was re-installed for another term by Bro . S . P . Bidder , P . M . After calling upon the brethren to salute the W . M . in the customary

manner , Bro . S . P . Bidder , P . M ., invested the following Past Masters officers for the year : Bros . VV . H . Anderton , S . VV . ; W . T . Norton , J . W . ; T . J . Cowen , Treas . ; S . P . Bidder , Sec . ( invested by W . M . ); R . Dottie , S . D . ( by deputy ); J . Hargreaves , J . D . ; W . Sturm , D . C . ( by deputy ); J . Burgess , I . G . ; and Julius Arensbergh , P . P .

G . P ., Stwd . The addresses on this occasion were dispensed with , and after some other lodge business had been discussed , "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by the visitors , and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The brethren subsequently adjourned to the Freemasons ' Hall and dined together . After dinner thc usual toasts were honoured .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . R . Timperley , P . G . S . D ., responded for "The Prov . Grand Officers . " In proposing "The Health of the VV . M ., " Bro . S . P . Bidder , P . M ., said the brethren would be well . aware , from the elaborate menu card before them , the toast hc was was going to propose . Bro . Bidder went on to say it was not every Worshipful Master who had his health drank twice in one year in honour of the same situation , or else

the brethren might have cried encore when the toast was then proposed . In this case , however , an explanation was necessary as to why their friend and Bro . Jefferis had been asked to fill the chair again . It sometimes happened that a VV . M . was invited to sit in the chair of K . S . for another year for his known zeal for Masonry , or for his love for his brethren and lodge , and , whilst admitting that both these causes had impelled the brethren of 11 G 1 to

reelect their VV . M ., it was also on account of a cloud which had been unfortunately resting on the De Grey and Ripon Lodge during Bro . Jefferis ' s reign ; but the brethren trusted they would be able to prove to him that brilliant sunshine would dispel this cloud , and rest upon " him during the remainder of his tenure of office . In eulogising the very handsome menu card the VV . M . had provided , Bro . Bidder said it surpassed one he had in ossession

jus p , on which 23 candidates were proposed for initiation , but the card before the brethren was unique , inasmuch as it showed every officer for the ensuing 12 months to be a Past Master . This in his ( Bro . Bidder's ) opinion was unparalleled amongst the roll of lodges in the province of East Lancashire . The brethren in office last year had been asked to stand aside for a time in order that the P . Ms , might fill the various positions , solely with a

view to promote the prosperity of the lodge and without the least disparagement to those who were well worthy and qualified to advance a step further . Bro . Bidder went on to state that the brethren might rely upon the P . Ms , doing their duty during the ensuing year as to leave no question as to the interest they took in the welfare of the lodge . Bro . Bidder , continuing , said there was no brother whom they could more rely upon to do his utmost for the lodge than

Bro . Jefferis , he being at once broadhearted , openhanded , a lover of the Craft , and one who was prepared to do all that was required of him , and although as he ( Bro . Bidder ) had previously stated the lodge was under a cloud , he hoped to be able to say in 12 months' time that the De Grey and Ripon Lodge was proud of the position it had attained . Masonry , like Christianity , had gone on conferring its benefits on every side , and did not confine itself to any

race or clime , and while such was the fact he hoped it would never be said that the De Grey and Ripon Lodge was behind in furthering the interests of Freemasonry . In conclusion , Bro . Bidder asked the brethren to rise and drink " The Health of their twice-installed W . M . " The invitation was readily responded to . Bro . J . D . Smith , the eminent local baritone , sang " Here ' s to his Health in a Song . " Bro , Jefferis responded .

"The Health of the Visiting Brethren " was proposed by Bro . Burgess , P . M . and drank with enthusiasm . Bros . Sinclair , 1 G 3 ; Craig , 993 ; Lean , 935 ; and others responding . Several other toasts were proposed , and the proceedings between each were enlivened with songs from Bros . J . H . Greenwood , J . D . Smith , R . R . Lisenden , and others , the pianoforte accompaniments being ably executed by our talented Bro . C . E . Rowley .

YORK . —Eboracum Lodge ( No . 1611 ) . —This lodge held its first meeting in the new Masonic Hall , St . Saviourgate , on Monday , the nth inst . The brethren attended in full force , and the lodge room was comfortably filled . The fittings of the hall were far from completed , but sufficient had been accomplished to give a good idea of what the effect would be when all was finished , and very general satisfaction was expressed at thc handsome ,

comfortable , and well-furnished appearance of the place . In thc absence of theW . M ., Sir F . Milner , Bart ., M . P ., and the I . P . M ., Bro . J . Elenkin ( through indisposition ) , Bro , T . B . Whytehead , Senior Past Master , took the chair , After the usual formalities and successful ballots for a candidate and a joining member , Bro . Whytehead addressed the brethren on the occasion of their meeting for the first time under their own roof . He congratulated

them on their efforts having been crowned with success , reviewing the progress of the lodge since its commencement , and pointing out the result . of harmonious working . He said that the spirit evinced by the members of the lodge was of the true Masonic kind . Not only had they been able to purchase and pay for the handsome building in which they were then assembled , but members of the lodge had come forward in the most handsome manner and

offered to present various articles of furniture . Chairs , pedestals , and various other important properties would be presented by individual brethren , and , indeed , no sooner was it known that anything was required for thc lodge than some brother at once came forward and offered to give it . He was proud to be a member of a lodge containing so many good and true men , and he looked forward to a future both prosperous and happy .

After the close of the lodge the party met at the refreshment table , and passed a most harmonious evening , everyone expressing the utmost pleasure at the accommodation experienced in the new building . Amongst those present were Bros . G . Balmford , P . M ., asS . W . ; VV . Brown , J . W . ; G . Chapman , S . D . ; S . J Dalton , J . D . ; J . Kay , Sec . ; W . Lackenby , I . G ., * VV . RUGELEY . —St . Augustine's Lodge ( No . 1941 ) , —The monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Tuesday evening , the 19 th inst ., at thc Lodge Room , Shrewsbury Arms Hotel . Bro . George Buttery , W . M ., presided , and there was a full attendance of officers and brethren . The lodge having been duly opened , the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The Secretary was instructed to communicate with Bro . Johns , who holds the position of Charity Steward , to request him to serve on the

The ceremony was performed in a very effective and able manner , and Bro . B . Burfield , Prov . G . Asst . Sec , Sic , afterwards gave the charge most impressively . Bro . Tanner , P . KINGSTON-ON-THAMES . —Dobie Lodge ( No . SS 9 ) . —The members of this lodge met at the Griffin Hotel on the 20 th inst ., and there was an unusually large attendance of members for the May meeting . In the unavoidable absence of the VV . M ., Bro . Tisley , P . G . S ., Bro . Alfred Withall , I . P . M ., occupied the chair of K . S . There was no work to be done , except that arising at the time .

A petition was read from a brother who was initiated in this lodge , and upon whom misfortunes had fallen ; and upon the motion of Bro . Long , P . M ., the worthy custodian of the Dobie cash , a grant oi £ 10 was made . 1 he applicant was only a subscribing member three years , but he was much respected by the brethren . The benevolent votes during the year now amount to just over £ 50 , and the sum given

by the lodge at this meeting was doubled by the contributions of individual members , the esteemed Treasurer leading with a handsome donation . The name of a candidate for initiation was given in , and Bro . Colbron , W . M . Royal Sussex Lodge o £ Emulation , was proposed as a joining member . The brethren were very pleased to have among them again Bro . F . T . V . Honeywell , P . M ., who had been

prevented from attending for a long time by ill-health . His musical services were appreciated by all . Atter the lodge had been duly closed , Bro . Sharp , who has recently taken the Griffin Hotel , served a very enjoyable supper , and the W . M . took the opportunity , while thanking him for his excellent catering , to wish him well in

'lis undertaking . Bro . Francis BucWand , P . M . 8 S 9 and 163 S , has , we regret to say , been very unwell for some few weeks past , and was consequently unable to be in his usual place at the last Dobie meeting .

Other toasts were proposed , and a very enjoyable evening was spent . The musical portion of the programme was admirably carried out by Bros . J . D . Smith , VVm . Booth , Jno . Smith , N .

M ., P . P . G . P . ; W .
