fHEALEXANDRIA.CIGARETTECO.'S NEW BRAND . DRAGOUMIS. PREPA RED OF THE PUREST TURKISH TOBACCOS . The highest classes of tobacco , however , are converted into the well-known " Dragoumis , " for whicli the Alexandria Cigarette Company have gained a deservedly high reputation , and we have no hesitation in saying , after a practical test so far as our taste and judgment permit , that they are superior to any we have yet tried , either imported or otherwise . — Whitehall Review . Their latest brand , " Dragoumis , " made of a skilful blend of fine Egyptian tobaccos , is full of flavour , yet delicately fragrant enough to please the most fastidious palate . We shall be surprised if " Dragoumis " do not prove the cigarette of the season . —Pump Court .

MASONIC YEAR BOOK FOR THE PROVINCE OF SUFFOLK , 1888-9 . The name of the editor of this capital Masonic guide for the Provincial Grand Lodge of Suffolk does not appear on the title-page , but we shall not err in congratulating Bro . N . Tracy , Prov . Grand Secretary , on the completion of his labours , and for the accurate and careful manner in which

the Calendar has been edited . The Right Hon . Lord Henniker is the Prov . G . M ., by patent , dated April 3 rd , 18 S 6 , in succession to the R . W . Bro . Lord Waveney , who vvas appointed in i 860 . The province was formed in 1771 , with Rowland Holt as the ruler , who for some time was ( Deputy Grand Master of England . That energetic Masonic veteran was followed by Bro . Sir William Middleton ,

Bart ., in 178 S ; by John Reade , in 1838 ; by Lord Rendlesham , in 1849 ; and Sir Edward S . Gooch , Bart ., in 1852 . This list of Prov . Grand Masters—seven in number—we take from the Grand Lodge Calendar , and suggest that in 1 SS 9-90 it might be given in the directory by Bro . Tracy . Similar particulars are afforded for the Royal Arch , but an unfortunate error occurs of " Weigh , " for Wright , who

was Grand Superintendent , 1801 . There are 21 lodges in Suffolk and seven Royal Arch chapters . The senior Iodge on the roll is No . 71 , Lowestoft , dating from 9 th May , 1747 , originally held at Norwich . The next in order of precedence , but not in antiquity , is No . Si , Woodbridge , of 13 th January , 1812 , the reason for which strange position is fully explained in Bro . J . Lane's " Masonic Records , 1717-18 S 6 . " * lhe third on the register is No . 114 , Ipswich , date of

warrant being 21 st January , 1762 . Then follows No . 225 , Ipswich , of October , 1 S 03 ( like No . Si—out of its place really as respects age ) , tne Apollo , No . 305 , coming fifth , warranted 22 nd July , 1794 . Lodges 71 and 114 have centenary jewel warrants , ot the ordinary design . There are 862 members on the roll , or an average of about 41 to each lodge , the maximum number being 86 for No . 225 , Ipswich , and the minimum 18 , for No . 1823 , Clare . An interesting list is inserted of the names of towns at which the annual

Provincial Grand Lodge has been held since 1816 , save the blanks between island 1838 , and 1840 and 1849 . The calendars of meetings of the lodges and chapters April , 18 S 8 , to March , 1889 , inclusive ,, are most useful additions , and , though an additional labour , will be found of special advantage in arranging for other engagements . The particulars respecting the personnel , & c , of the lodges are

just what would naturally be looked for in such a publication , but cannot always be met with , though , happily , they are to be found in this "Year Book" for Suffolk—we refer to the names of the officers , Past Masters ( with years of service ) , provincial rank ( if any ) , addresses of Secretaries , and of the Charity Representatives , & c . The chapters , in like manner , are duly attended to , as also the

Mark Prov . Grand Lodge . The latter is for East Anglia , and so it includes other lodges besides Suffolk , there being nine in all , three being in the province under consideration , viz ., 70 , Ipswich ; 105 , Bury St . Edmund's ; and 317 , Gor-Ieston . The "Suffolk Life Subscribership for the Royal

Masonic Charities " is an excellent institution , and deserves more support than it receives . The rules are printed , and after them follows the roll of Stewards from Suffolk for the trio of Masonic Charities from 1 S 64 , and the names and numbers of all the voters , the latter reaching the very large number of 3088 . All honour to Suffolk I * George Kenning , London ; only a few copies left .
