We publish elsewhere a copy ol the circular in which members of Grand Lodge and the representatives of private lodges are summoned to attend a Special Grand Lodge on Friday , the 6 th proximo , for the purpose of voting addresses of congratulation on the birth of the

infant son of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York , grandson of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., and the Princess of Wales , and great grandson of her Gracious Majesty the Queen . The holding of a Special Grand Lodge for this

purpose will naturally commend itself to the whole body of English Freemasons , who are but too happy , when an opportunity is afforded them of showing their loyalty to the Queen and his Royal Highness the Grand

Master . But the pleasure in this particular instance will be the greater , seeing that—whether b y design or accident we know not—the day chosen for the meeting is the first anniversary of the marriage of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York .

* We warmly congratulate Bro . the Right Hon . VV . L . J ackson , M . P ., who . presided at the Boys' School Festival on Wednesday , the Province of West York - ishire-j the Stewards generally , the contributing ladies ,

Lewises , and brethren , and the Secretary of the Institution on the great success which has attended their combined efforts . To Bro . McLeod especially we offer our congratulations , for lo his persistent and sustained energies during the last four years the

institution is , to an extent known only to those who arc familiar with the work , indebted for the great results accomplished , but all have worked splendidl y to raise the necessary ways and means , and what measure of success has attended their labours will be

seen in the report and Stewards lists which are published in another part of our columns . West Yorkshire has surpassed all its previous achievements , while the other 34 Provinces and Foreign Stations which sent up Stewards and London were about a level , the amount

contributed by each being slightly in excess of , £ 7000 . This is the third time in four years that the Boys ' School total has exceeded those of its sister Institutions , and the Board of Management must be very proud of their Secretary and his staff of officials to whose labours this is due .

# # # Loudon , with 184 Stewards—of whom 2 t were ladies and three lewises—returned , £ 7082 11 s . ; and the Provinces , including West Yorkshire , with 430 Stewards , of whom 30 were ladies and six Lewises ,

£ 11 , 500 5 s . 7 d . ; the total raised by the Board of 614 Stewards being . £ 18 582 16 s . 7 d . A feature in connection with this Festival is the exceptionally large number of ladies on the Board of Stewards . Commonly the fair sex has only two or three representatives , on these occasions , but ' here they numbered just over 50 , one of

them , as Steward for a newly-constituted lodge , handing in a list of £ 61 19 s ., while another , who was Unattached in Hertfordshire , returned an almost equal sum—, £ 61 2 s . Wc are glad to find the authorities have adopted the plan of encouraging ladies lo act as Stewards , and we trust it will be continued with even greater success in future years .

We have to add another name to the list of candidates for the Grand Treasurership in 18 95 . Bro . Chas . W . Hudson , P . P . P . G . W . Sussex , & c , writes to say that a candidate will be nominated by the Provincial brethren , and that he is again seeking that honour , and hopes to be adopted as the representative of the Provinces combined .

METROPOLITAN MEETING . * -. Quatuor Coronati Lodge ( No . 2076 ) . — ANNUAL EXCURSION . —The past few days have been a busy time for the members of this lodge , as they have witnessed the most extended summer outing yet undertaken by the members , concluding with the annual St . John ' s Day meeting . On Wednesday , the 20 th inst , several of the

members left London by the hvc o clock train for Salisbury , putting up at the Red Lion Hotel , and were there joined by others and by Bro . Greenwood , of Salisbury . Theevening after dinner was passed in brotherly conversation until the carriages were announced shoilly after one o ' clock in the morning . The outlook was not propitious , as the day had been a thoroughly wet one , and the sky was pitch black with not a star visible , yet the brethren ventured to drive

the 10 miles to Stonehenge in the hope of seeing the sun rise over the * ' Friar ' s Heel" on the longest day of the year . Fortune often favours the brave , and so it turned out on this occasion , for the day broke on the plains absolutely cloudless , and the sun rose in uudimmed splendour for the lirst' time for eijht years on this allimportant day . An hour or two speedily passed amid the venerable ruins of an extinct civilisation , and the return to

Salisbury in the early morning was most enjoyable . Although the brethren were unable to retire to their beds before seven o'clock , yet at 10 all were present at breakfast and prepared to make the most of their time . The forenoon was spent in strolling about the town , and the afternoon in a visit to Longford Castle , the splendid residence of the Prov . G . M ., Karl Radnor . Friday morning was devoted to exploring " Old Sarum , " and the afternoon

to inspecting Wilton House , the residence of the Larl of Pembroke , and the remarkable parish church of Wilton , built in the Italian style and rich in old glass and other adornments procured from old churches abroad . On Saturday morning the advance party was joined by sonic 40 brethren who had not been able to leave town earlier , and inspected the Cathedral under the guidance of Dr . Bourne , the Sub-Dean , and of Bro . Doran Webb , architect

and antiquary . Bro . Lovegrove also delivered an address on the structure in the Cathedral library . The afternoon was passed in in-pecting the town and the celebrated Blackmore Museum , under the guidance of Dr . Blackmore , c including by afternoon tea at Bro . Greenwood ' s . On Sunday morning the now large party of nearly 50 brethren proceeded in brakes to Old Sarum and to Stonehenge , under the guidance of Bro . Webb , returning to

dinner at 3 . 45 , and leaving for town by the 5 . 41 train . The lodge met at Freemasons' Hall , on Monday , the 25 th inst . Present : Bros . Dr . Wynn Westcott , W . M . ; R . K . Gould , P . G .
