expressed a hope that he might be spared a good while longer to serve the interests of the good old town of Derby . After "The Health of the Worshipful Master " and "Success to the proposed New Lodge" had been given ,

the proceedings , which had been enlivened by some excellent part singing by Bros . Charlres , Dodd , Forman , and Melrose , a skilful performance on the zither by Bro . Woodward , and t ' ne assistance of other musical brethren , were brought to a close by the Tyler's toast .

VENTNOR . —Yarborough Lodge ( No . 551 ) . — The regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , on Tuesday , the 19 th inst ., when there were present Bros . Alfred Scott , P . M ., P . P . G . S ., in the chair ; Fredk . P . Ansle , Sec , acting as S . W . ; G . Brockington , J . W . ; J . Webber , P . M ., Treas . ; J . J . Williams , S . D , ; E . A . Swane , J . D . ; John J . W . Longmuir , W . J . Wetherick , W . D . Bidgood , and W . F . Turner , 792 . The lodge having been duly opened , the Secretary read the notice convening the meeting , also the minutes of the last regular lodge , which were unanimously confirmed . Bro . W . D . Bidgood was passed to the Second Degree , and Bros . W . J . Wetherick and W . Longmuir raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason , both ceremonies being beautifully and effectively rendered by the acting

W . M ., who was thoroughly and ably supported by the various officers . On the usual questions being asked , the Secretary proposed that sanction should be given for a lodge of instruction to be held on Monday evenings ; after some discussion the consideration of this was deferred till the next meeting . A vote of thanks was given to Bro . Scott for the able manner in which he had performed the different ceremonies , after which the lodge was closed .

WOOLWICH . —Nelson Lodge ( No . 700 ) . —The annual crop of installations in the Woolwich district was finally harvested on Wednesday , the 20 th inst ., when Bro . R . J . Naylor , S . VV ., and W . M . elect of the above lodge , was installed with the usual ceremony in the chair of K . S ., and saluted according to ancient custom . He then invested his officers as follows : f . Sanderson , I . P . M ; J . M . Miller ,

S . W . ; W . Webber , J . W . ; T . Butt , P . M ., Treas . ; J . Warren , P . M ., Sec ; S . E . Southgate , S . D . ; J . Mc Collough , J . D . ; G . F . Taylor , I . G . ; J . H . Roberts , P . Warren , who acted as Installing Officer , then gave the addresses and concluded a most

impressive and admirably wrought ceremony , for which he was voted thanks , the same to be inscribed on the minutes of the lodge . Bro . Sanderson , LP . M ., was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel of the value of ten guineas , for services rendered during the past twelve months , and after be and Bro . Warren had returned thanks , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the New Falcon

Hotel , Gravesend , where Bro . Hubbard had ready for their delectation one of those superbly appointed feasts for which he is so famous . The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts having been duly honoured , the I . P . M ., in eloquent terms , proposed "The Health of the W . M . " and in response Bro . Naylor thanked the brethren most sincerely for their kindness , and

assured them that nothing should be wanting on his part to make the lodge one of the first in the district . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of "The Past Masters , " said no one who had attained the eminence of the chair , or who aspired to it , could be without a knowledge of the invaluable aid given by the Past Masters . He had received the greatest assistance from them , and if he had

not , he certainly never could have reached the chair . Bro . Norman , P . M ; , Sec , briefly responded . Bro . Bult , as Treasurer , took the occasion to review the position of the lodge financially , he said that in reference to the cash book so far back as 1870 , he found the past year the most prosperous the lodge had ever had , having at the present time a balance in hand of £ 89 , and he had further

the greatest satisfaction in stating that the Benevolent Fund , of which he was the founder , and which had only been in existence fifteen months , had now a fund of £ 16 at the disposal of the brethren . When he had the honour to preside over the lodge in the year 1 S 76-1877 , ten years ago , they had a good year , the next best to the present one in the history of the lojge , but he was the more pleased at

the result of this year ' s work because no less than £ 40 had been given in the cause of Charity . He thanked them for the cordial reception the toast always met at the hands of the brethren , and hoped to have many years of prosperity with them and the lodge . Bro . Roberts considered it a red letter day in the history of the lodge , and congratulated both the lodge and its

Master on its splendid position . Bro . Warren having been honoured as "The Installing Officer , " a tribute he justly merited , and having duly responded , Bro . T . D . Hayes , P . M . 913 , in responding for "The Visitors " said , he regretted being unable to be with them at the lodge and witnessing the installation ceremony , the exellence of which he had heard eulogised on all sides .

For many years past he had experienced their hospitality , and he remembered that when their W . M . was initiated , he was one of the first to congratulate him on joining the Craft , especially the Nelson Lodge , for he could safely say that ivherever he went , he saw no better working , or the principles of Masonry better carried out than he did in the Nelson Lodge . In business no Mason was expected to go beyond the length of his cable tow , but he had so many

good friends in , and such a lively remembrance of the hospitality of the Nelson Lodge , that he felt compelled to be with them that day . The frelson and his mother lodge , the Pattison , were sister lodges , and he trusted they might for many years go on hand in hand and prosper . Past Master Warren , 1436 , added his testimony to the excellence of the installation ceremony , and cordially invited the brethren to visit the Liberty of Havering at Romford .

Bro . Milbourne , W . M . 13 , represented the Union Waterloo Lodge , and compared the Nelson with that , by saying that as his lodge represented the greatest general of the day , so the Nelson represented the greatest Admiral of his , while the other London lodge at Woolwich , the Florence Nightingale , hovered over them like a blessing . He trusted the unity between them might long continue , and cordially thanked the brethren for their hospitality .

S . G . W . in 1872 , and has held the office of Prov . G . Sec . since 1875 , during which period the Craft has made enormous strides in the

expressed a hope that he might be spared a good while longer to serve the interests of the good old town of Derby . After "The Health of the Worshipful Master " and "Success to the proposed New Lodge" had been given ,
