Sir Henry , who was accorded a hearty reception , expressed the opinion that there was a real demand for local theatres , and that a new play house in a great district like Kennington was sure to be a stimulus to the taste for rational recreation .

" FIFTY GOOD REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GO TO HUNSTANTON . " Under this title the Great Eastern Railway Company are issuing an attractive booklet dealing with the climatic advantages and illustrating the scenic attractions of this charming watering place . A NEW MASONIC HALL FOR LEEDS . —Mr . Thomas Winn , architect , of Leeds , has effected a purchase , through Messrs . Hepper and Sons , of the premises belonging to the executors of the late Mr . Joseph Salter , situite in Park Lane , Leeds . The property was recently withdrawn at a sale by auction at Messrs . Hepper and Sons ' rooms after a bid of £ 8500 . The premises form a square block , with a frontage to Park Lane of 79 ft . io : n ., to Park Street of 134 ft . 3 m ., and to Oxford Street of 147 ft . 2 in . The net site area is 1397 square yards . The site is intended for the erection of a new Masonic Hall for Leeds with central offices for the accommodation of the Provincial Lodges of West Yorkshire .

Fredk . Charles Thompson to be Assistant Secretary in the Public Works Department at the India Office . THE QUEEN has approved ot the Jubilee Medal being granted to all brigade majors and officers performing brigade-majors' duty in the streets of London on the Jubilee Day last year .

^^ THE Q UEEN on Monday morning , accompanied by her Royal Highness Princess Henry cf Battenberg . Being the birthday of the Duchess of Connaught , the Trafalgar , guardship at Cowes , fired a royal salute . THE TREASURER of Guy ' s Hospital has received an anonymous donation of 6000 dollars from one who listened to Mr . Balfour ' s speech on the occasion of the distribution of prizes in the Medical School , with the request that the governors would use the sum for the purpose of the endowment of medical research .

THE CABDRIVERS' Benevolent Association has received , through Sir Douglas Straight , a letter from Sir Francis Knollys , expressing , on behalf of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , his warm thanks to all who were present at the general meeting of the Society on the 20 th instant , for their kind expression of sympathy , and their good wishes for his speedy recovery , and adds that he is going on as well as possible .

THE Q UEEN , accompanied by her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Battenberg , saw , on the Terrace at Osborne , on Saturday afternoon last , the officers , petty officers , bluejackets , and marines , who were serving on board her Majesty ' s ship Blonde at the time his Royal Highness the lamented Prince Henry of Battenberg was taken on board , and who had previously been to Whippingham Church to view the tomb of the Prince .

A NEW hospital at Aldershot for the wives and children of soldiers was opened on Monday bv the Duchess of Connaught , after whom it has been named the Louise Victoria . It adjoins the Cambridge Hospital , and the founda'ion-stone was laid by the Duchess a year ago . The Duke of Coinaught accompanied the Duchess , and their Royal Highnesses were received at the entrance by Surgeon-Major-General O'Dwyer . Her Royai Highness unlocked the hospital , and , after entering , wis conducted through the Queen Victoria wards . After a short service the Duchess said : " I have much pleasure in declaring this hospital open , and I hope it will be a great comfort to the women and children . "

A LARGE congregation assembled in St . George ' s Church , Hanover-square , for the marriage of Lady Margaret Innes-Ker , eldest daughter of the Duchess of Roxburghe , with Major J . A . Orr-Ewing , brother of Bro . Sir William Orr-Ewing , Bart , of Ardencaple Castle , Helensburgh . The officiating clergymen were the Bishop of London , the Rev . Edgar Sheppard ( Sub-Dean of the Chapels Royal ) , and the Rev . David Anderson ( Rector of St . George ' s . ) Mr . Tom Kennard was best man , while the Duke of Roxburghe escorted his sister to the altar , and afterwards gave her away .

A BULLETIN SIGNED by the four doctors attending H . R . H . the Prince of Wales was issued at 9 . 30 a . m . at Marlborough House on Monday morning . "The condition of his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , both locally , as regards the fracture , and generally continues to be quite satisfactory . " Throughout the day the favourable symptoms prevailed . Prince and Princess Christian and Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig-Holstein , _ Princess Louise Marchioness of Lome and the Marquis of Lome called to see the Prince , and a very large number of persons inscribed their names in the visitors' book .

A NEW hospital at Aldershot for the wives and children of soldiers was opened on Monday bv the Duchess of Connaught , after whom it has been named the Louise Victoria . It adjoins the Cambridge Hospital , and the founda'ion-stone was laid by the Duchess a year ago . The Duke of Coinaught accompanied the Duchess , and their Royal Highnesses were received at the entrance by Surgeon-Major-General O'Dwyer . Her Royai Highness unlocked the hospital , and , after entering , wis conducted through the Queen Victoria wards . After a short service the Duchess said : " I have much pleasure in declaring this hospital open , and I hope it will be a great comfort to the women and children . "
