Our late brother was also for six years an active member of

the Windhill Local Board , and his Masonic life was distinguished by an enthusiasm and zeal rarely surpassed . He was highly esteemed in his mother lodge , No . 3 S 7 , and for the past twenty years identified himself with every movement connected with that lodge . He was seldom , if ever , absent from the regular lodge meetings , and up to the time

of his death displayed an energy and zeal that knew no bounds . Bro . Booth was unmarried . Personally he posssssed a most amiable disposition , and his kindly nature won for him a large circle of friends , and the respect of all who knew him . He was initiated in 1 S 66 , W . M . in 1 S 72 , and for many years was Charity Steward of the lodge , an office he really loved .

BRO . CHARLES SANDERS , M . D ., P . M ., P . Z . The hews of the death of Bro . C . Sanders , M . D ., will be received generally with regret . Bro . Sanders was only 54 years of age , but had taken an active part in Masonic pursuits for some years past . He was a P . M . of the Chigwell Lodge 453 , Chingford , a P . Z . of the Prudence Chapter , No . 12 , and had taken the 30 in the Ancient and Accepted Rite . He had been a member of the House Committee of

the Boys' School since 1 SS 0 , and it was in this capacity more particularly that he had been able to render his most important services . He was also a Life Governor of , and had served sundry Stewardships for , all our Institutions , and had his life been spared , he would no doubt have continued to render that valuable aid which had been so generously rendered in the case of the Boys' School . The cause of death was heart disease .

BRO . T . C . CHAPMAN , P . M ., P . Z ., & c . We regret to record the decease of Bro . T . C . Chapman , who was initiated in the Gresham Lodge , No . BRO . GEORGE GWYN PARKER . A sad calamity has lately added to the already long list of Freemasons who have passed away during the last few weeks . The brother whose sudden death we have now sorrowfully to record had given great promise of usefulness to our ancient institution since his initiation in the Great City Lodge , No . 1426 , some eight or nine years ago . But it

has been orderedotherwise . ' and deep regret must be mingled with a sincere hope and belief that our loss is his gain . Bro . Parker had ridden from Staines on Sunday , the 17 th inst ., his groom being in attendance , and had reached within a few yards of his residence , when , from some unaccountable cause , he was thrown from his horse , and within a very few moments had ceased to exist . At the early age of 42 our

deceased brother was thus called away , and a sorrowing widow and six children have been bereft of their natural protector . Bro . Parker was an Australian and New Zealand merchant , carrying on business in Palmerston-buildings , Old Broad-street , and enjoyed the respect and esteem of a large number of City and Colonial traders , by whom his untimel y decease is greatly deplored . To those members

of our Order with whom he had close association he was much endeared for his many good qualities , and the Great City Lodge and Prudent Brethren Chapter will doubtless miss him for some years to come . His funeral took place at Teddington Cemetery on Friday , the 22 nd 'nst ., amidst a large concourse of friends , neighbours , and members of the Craft , all of whom evinced great sorrow and

regret . The floral offerings from each section of ¦ societ y were very numerous , and amongst them a chaste Mas 0 , iic wreath testified to the regard in which the Great jj- 't y Lodge held their deceased brother . Another tie , Masonicall y , bound them to him , his relative , Bro . John K . Gwyn , a member of the lodge , being one of the mourners . 1 he lodge was represented by its originator , Bro . N . B . Buckland has done much for Masonry in Kingston , both Craft and Arch , having for the last 12 years been regular in attendance , both at the Dobie and Brownrigg . The testimonial to Bro . V . P . Freeman , Prov .

only a fortnight since we had the pleasure of reporting the proceedings at a dinner when our esteemed Bro . Berry was presented with a silver salver by the Vestry of Shadwell . The funeral took place on Wednesday at Tower Hamlets Cemetery , a large number of brethren of the Yarborough , Doric , and Burdett-Coutts Lodges being present . We sympathize with Bro . We are asked to state that the usual meeting of the Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement will not take place on Tuesday next , in consequence of the dinner which is fixed for that evening . The Brownrigg Lodge of Instruction now meets on Thursday night in each week , at the Alexandra Hotel , Kingston Hill , and hitherto there has been a good attendance of brethren anxious to learn of the Preceptor , Bro . P . G . Swd . Br . of

Sussex , has been re-elected Mayor of Lewes for the ensuing year . The choice was not only unanimous , but he is the first Mayor of the county town of Sussex who has had the honour of re-election . A warm tribute of praise was paid to him at the closing meeting of the municipal yaar for the admirable manner in which he had discharged the duties of his office latterly . We have to acknowledge , with thanks , from Bro .

F . Osborn , No . 12 S 7 , the receipt of a card , just published by him , of " English Plate Marks . " It has been compiled with great cace from the best authorities , and exhibits at a glance in the small compass " of an ordinary post-card the shapes of the different shields , lions , leopards' heads , of the different epochs , as well as the reigns and dates at which they were used . This Card of Marks will be found of very great service by connoisseurs and collectors of old plate .

The Border Chapter Rose Croix will be consecrated at the Keswick Hotel , Keswick to-morrow ( Saturday ) afternoon , at 2 . 30 p . m ., and at the conclusion of that ceremony Bro . George J . It was arranged that , subject to the convenience of the Mayor , and the approval of the Finance Committee of the City Council , the ball should take place on the second Tuesday in January next . Bro . St . John Caws , of the St . Clair Lodge , No . 41 G ( S . C . ) , of Melbourne , and Past District Grand

Organist under the Scottish Constitutions of Victoria , has , since his arrival in England , been the recipient of sundry compliments , which must have given him a great deal of pleasure , and will be ^ ead of by his friends , especially b y his brother Masons of Melbourne and Geelong , with a considerable amount of pride and satisfaction . His " Hi'da Valse " has been applauded whenever it has been performed in public

and one day , in the early part of this month , Bro . Caws had the gratification of being present in the Western Kiosk , at the Colonial and Indian Exhibition , South Kensington , when it was played by the band of the Grenadier Guards under Bro . Dan Godfrey , and the visitors very heartily applauded it and him as its composer . On another occasion it was played by the same band , and under the same

leadership , during the ceremony of mounting guard in St . James ' s Palace . On Thursday , the 21 st inst ., Bro . Caws was present as a visitor at a meeting of the Sandown Lodge , No . 1 S 69 , Sandown , Isle of Wight , when , by permission of the W . M ., Bro . Woolridge proposed " The Health of Bro . Caws , " and , in the couise of his speech , paid him many well-merited compliments for his great musical abilities , Bro . Caws replying in suitable terms , and

expressing thanks very heartily for the kindness he had experienced everyivhere during his visit to the old country . Such slight episodes as this in our current history will go a long way towards strengthening the bonds of fraternal feeling and good fellowship between Australia and the United Kingdom .
