with which the newly-admitted brother was invested bore the scriptural text , " The greatest of these is chanty , " inscribed on the lining , together with the date ( iS 7 S ) of the respected Master's initiation into Masonry , and also that of his son . Other regular Masonic business having been transacted , the members and their guests adjourned to the Albany

Hotel , where they sat down to a sumptuous and substantial banquet , prepared and served under the personal direction of the worthy host , Mr . Knight . In proposing the loyal and Masonic toasts , the newlyinstalled Master , Bro Horace Brooks Marshall , remarked that since he was initiated in the lodge in 1 S 7 S , no less than six Provincial Grand Lodge collars had been given to

the members of the lodge . They warmly thanked the Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex , Bro . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., for the honour which he bad thus conferred upon their lodge . With "The Provincial Grand Offices of Middlesex , Present and Past . " the W . Master coupled the name of Bro . George Kenning , P . P . G . D . Middx ., whom he heartily

thanked for the generous support he had pven him on many occasions . Bro . George Kenning replied . Bro . Wm . Ramsey gave "The Health of the Master , " whom he had very great pleasure in seeing in the chair of that Lodge . The Master ' s position was most exceptional

in that on the night of his installation as W . M . of the Royal Hanover Lodge he had his son as an initiate by his side . No doubt this would be one of the principal episodes of their lives , and one which would be borne in mind by them for many years to come . Their Master had performed the initiation ceremony in a manner the most impressive , and in a way which had appealed most effectually to the heart .

The toast was drunk with the utmost enthusiasm and with full Masonic honours . The Master , in responding , thanked the brethren sincerely for the cordial manner in which they had received the toast of his health . It was with some hesitation that he accepted the position of Master of the lodge , to which he was elected by favour of the brethren in July last , owing to the

multiplicity of his engagements , and the claims on his time in connection with the philanthropic works with which he was associated . About the time of his election he was invited to lay the foundation-stone of a middle-class college in the Cathedral city of Canterbury , and the brethren , with that generosity which was characteristic of the members of the Craft , presented him with the tools with which to perform

the ceremony . Upon the magnificent silver trowel was engraved the words , "labor omnia vincit , " and he resolved upon reading it , to apply that motto to his own case , and determined that if by perseverance and labour it was possible to properly perform the splendid ritual of the Order , they should not be wanting on his part . He only hoped that at the end of his year of office they might be in a position to say that he had performed the duties of his

important position to their entire satisfaction . "The Health of the Visitors" and "The Immediate Past Master , Bro . W . Ramsey , " "The Installing Officer , " and other toasts were given , including "The Initiate , " which was appropriately acknowledged by Bro . H . B . Marshall , jun . During a most enjoyable evening's proceedings , vocal music was performed by Bros . G . J . Dunkley , J . Holliday , S . W ., and others .

with which the newly-admitted brother was invested bore the scriptural text , " The greatest of these is chanty , " inscribed on the lining , together with the date ( iS 7 S ) of the respected Master's initiation into Masonry , and also that of his son .
