A H OSPITAL W INDFALL . — By desire of Lady Harris the sum of £ 500 which remains over from the Augustus Harris Memorial Fund will be handed to one of the London hospitals for children . T HE Q UEEN has been pleased to approve of the

appointment of Mr . C . J . Darling , Q . C , M . P ., as one of the justices of the High Court . Mr . Darling was born in 1 S 49 , was called to the Bar in 1 S 74 , took silk in 1885 , and since JSSS bad represented Deptford in the House of Commons .

MR . STODDART S TRAM IS now at Adelaide , Siuth Australia , and were entertained at dinner at Government House on Tuesday evening , but several of the members are suffering from severe colds , and consequently the team at present is only in very moderate form . Mr . Druce and Board were unable to take part in the mitch arranged at Adelaide .

BRO . VISCOUNT WOLSELEY , the Cimmin-ier-in-Chief , has informed the Council of the National Rifls Association that he considers the official report of its last meeting as in every way satisfactory . There was a greit advance on last year , and he consiiers great priise is due to Colonel the Earl of Stradbroke , President and the Council of the Association , for having maintained so big a stindud of efficiency in their work .

THE NEWS that her Royal Highness the Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge , Du : hess of Teck , died suddenly from failure of the heart ' s action , after undergoing an operation , has been received with universal regret . Her Royal Highness was everywhere most popular , and her death will create a void , more particularly in Richmond , where she was so well known and loved , which will not

readily be filled . The Princess was not far short of G 4 years of age , having been born on the 27 th November , 1833 . She was married to the Duke of Teck in iSGG , ani her daughter is the present Duchess of York . She was first cou Jn to the Qjeen , who has already mxde public her sorrow at the loss , and younger sister of the Duke of Cambridge .

IN CONSEQUENCE of the lamented death of the Princess Mary Duchess of Teck , a number of engagements entered into by members of the Royal Family hive been cancelled . The ball at Sandringham announced for Friday , the 12 th prox ., will not take place , while the Oxford and Cambridge and other clubs , which have been accustom : d to illuminate on H . R . H . the Prince of Wales ' s birthday , have stopped the preparations which were already in progress . The

Prince of Wales was to have laid the memorial stone of tbe new wing to the Rous Memorial Hospital at Newmarket on Thursday ; but the ceremony is now inlefinitely pjstponed . The Princess Christian , too , wis to have opened a bazaar at Haydn Park - road on Thursday , and the Duchess ot Albany and her sister were to have attended a grand evening concert at Esher Village Hall on Wednesday , but neither of the engagements could be kept .
