Capper Lodge , No . 1076 . The remarkable progress of the above powerful and flourishing lodge since its migration from the East-end of London to within the boundaries of the City , has for many years been commented on in our columns . It has progressed both in numbers , in the personality of its members , in its Charity—it being at the present moment a Vice-President of all the Institutions—while the excellence of its working , both in the ordinary ceremonies and more especially in its installation ceremony , has been acknowledged by all who have had the honour and opportunity to be present at its annual festivals .
The installation meeting was on Thursday , the 14 th instant , and was held at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , City . He was also presented with a handsome and valuable Past Master's jewel for services rendered the lodge during his year of office , for both of which favours he returned his best thanks . Some other lodge business ensued , and then the lodge was closed . Among the others present were Bros . W . Dorton , P . M . ; A . T . Dale , P . M . ; T . Watkins , P . M . ; W . C Crow , P . The banquet was a real " Capper , " and all those who have been privileged to partake of a "Capper" banquet know what that means . It was served under the direct supervision of Bro . Mersham , who is an adept at his business . The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts having been drunk most heartily ,
The I . P . M . rose to propose to the toast of "The Worshipful Master . " He said it was his first pleasant duty to take up the gavel and propose to them in that grand gathering of the lodge and its visitors , the health of their esteemed W . M ., Bro . Sayers . Their W . M . had been a member of the lodge for the last 15 years , and from the first had endeavoured to win for himself " a crown that will never fade . " Their W . M . was to his , Bro . Ware's , knowledge , a brilliant worker , and he felt sure that if , during his year of office , they found him plenty to do . his words would be Droved . It was not worth

I le said it had always been to him a much easier matter to propose a toast than to respond to one proposed to himself , and more especially was it to the one so eloquently and feelingly put that night by their I . P . M ., and so cordially received by them . It was not the mere matter of saying "thank you , " but to respond adequately , and in such a minner as
would show them how much he appreciated and esteemed their hearty good wishes . He felt the responsibility of being the head of such an important lodge , even for one short year . He trusted his year of office would be as successful as that of their 1 . P . M ., Bro . M . had said , it was i £ years ago since he became a member of that lodge , and he could safely say that during the whole of that
time he had endeavoured to do all in his power to increase the prosperity of the lodge . He trusted to have their hearty co-operation , and then he felt sure his year of office would not be served in vain . He should endeavour to imitate the bright examples set him by his predecessors , the Masters of the Capper Lodge , and while thanking them for their hearty reception of the toast , should always remember with pride their kindness and hearty good wishes .
"The Initiate" was toasted and suitably responded . The W . M ., in proposing "The Visitors , " heartily welcomed them , and spoke of the Capper Lodge as one that was very pleased to see visitors round their social board . Bros . Pritchard , Cockburn , and Jolly returned thanks . The toast of "The Installing Ollicer " was drunk in bumpers , and Bro . Ware , in response , spoke of the valuable assistance he had received from the Past Masters of the lodge , especially Bro . Tapley , P . M ., and expressed his determination to assist the W . M . by every means in his power .
The toasts of " The Past Masters " and " Officers " followed , and then the Tyler's toast finished an excellent day ' s labour and refreshment .
