Consecration Of The Temperance Lodge, No. 2876.

The names of six gentlemen were submitted for initiation , and many brethren were proposed for joining . The dinner was served exactly two hours after the commencement of the consecration ceremony , which was a record for Cheshire , and speaks highly for the efficiency of everyone engaged in the two ceremonies .

On the ioth instant the annual : iupper of the Vitruvian Lodge of Instruction , No . 87 , ' was held at the Duke of Albany , Kitto-road , Nunhead , when an interesting presentation was made to Preceptor Bro . Charles W . Mayo , P . M . iG 8 < 5 and 1541 , and liro . James Reynolds , S . D . 87 , Sec . Notwithstanding the dense fog , there were upwards of 40 brethren present . Bro . W . H . Bale , P . The host , Bro . R . F . Ramsden , 87 , provided a cold collation which gave great satisfaction . The tables were prettily arranged and were rendered very charming in appearance by the tasteful arrangement of a large number of choice chrysanthemums and other flowers .

Bro . Richard Tonking , Org . 902 , was the accompanist . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . BAI . K , P . M ., made the presentation . He said that the members of thc lodge had desired to take the opportunity of showing some outward indication of the high appreciation they had for the work so admirably carried on by Bros . Mayo and Reynolds . It would be difficult to lind brethren who did their work

more thoroughly , and there was an entire absence of favouritism and a cheerful rendering ol assistance to every member that had rightly earned for them the highest respect and affection of every member . Quietly and gently this instruction was given , and it would not be easy to accurately estimate the immense amount of good that had been done in consequence of the work so unostentatiously carried on at this lodge . He asked them to accept the little presents ? s an indication of the feeling he had endeavoured to express .

The presents took the form of smoking cabinets , identical in pattern and contents . They are formed of fumed oak , have plate-glass doors and oxydised silver repoubsr fittings , and are filled with cigars , tobacco , pipes , & c , and bear a suitable inscription on a silver plate . Bro . MAYO , P . M ., in his reply , thanked the brethren for their very handsome present . He reminded them that he had been Preceptor for 12 years , and he assured them that when the destroying hand of lime tendered it impossible for him to continue the work , he should look back always with gratification on the many pleasant evenings he had spent in that lodge of instruction .

Bro . REYNOLDS also made a suitable response , assuring the brethren that his work was a labour of love , and that he heartily thanked them for the most useful and ornamental present . The toast of "The Visitors" was responded lo by Bro . AI . LISTKK G . ANIIKRSUS , 486 , St . John ' s , Fort William , Calcutta . Bros . KI . I , IOTT , COLLINS , MAI 1 KY , and TONKI . VO also replied .

Bro . A . II . CLAYTON then proposed the toast of "The President , Bro . Bale , P . M . " He said that he ( Bro . Bale ) was always most willing in giving assistance in the work of the lodge when it became necessary ; he did his part as Treasurer of the lodge most admirably , and the success of that evening was chiefly due to his most active efforts indeed , the idea of the presentation originated with him . Thc toast was most enthusiastically received .

liro . BAI . K , in Ins reply , said that the lodge had now 176 members . It was impossible for it to be better officered , and he heartily wished it the continuance of the success it had met with . He concluded by proposing the toast of '' The Vice-President , Bro . A . B . Clayton , " and said that lie was the best Master of his lodge thai they had had for many years . lire . W . F . LAMONIIV , P . A . G . D . C , then proposed the toast of "The Sister Lodges of Instruction . "

Bro . J . ELI . INIIKI ; , P . M ., replied . He congratulated the brethren upon the Very cordial and close feelings of friendship which existed among the local lodges of instruction , and said that thc assistance afforded by thc Vitruvian Ludge in a case in which they were successful in getting a brother elected to one of the Masonic Charities would never be forgotten . Bros . J . Wimble , P . M ., Preceptor uf the Selwyn Lodge , and Joseph Pointon , P . M ., had particularly

desired to be kindly remembered , and to express regret that a previous engagement of long standing prevented their being present that evening . Thc toast ot " Bro . F . W . Dew , Secretary of the Presentation Committee , ' ' was then drunk amidst hearty applause , as was also the final toast , " The Host and Hostess , " to which Bro . R . F . RA . "The King , the Protector of the Craft , " having been given , and most loyally received , " God save the King " was sung . The toast of " H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , M . W . G . M ., " was next presented , followed by that of "The M . W . Pro G . M ., the Earl Amherst ; the R . W . Deputy G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " Bro . H . J . Adams , P . G . Std . Br ., replying in an amusing speech . Bro . W . H . Hillman , P . M ., in proposing "The Health ofthe LP . M . ( acting W . M . ) , " regretted the absence , through illness , of the W . M ., and alluded to the admirable manner in which the I . P . M . had performed his work that evening .

The l . l ' . M ., in reply , spoke of the attachment he felt to the lodge ; that he , as a Past Master , would ever be ready to assist as far as lay in his power the working when required . The acting W . M ., in proposing ' * The Health of the Initiates , " said what a pleasure it was to receive them as brethren of the loi ^ e . The initiates briefly replied .

' The Treasurer and Secietary " was proposed by the acting W . M ., who spoke of the liberal manner in which the colonel had benefitted the lodge ; he announced that the M . W . G . M . had offered him the purple of Grand Lodge in honour of their worthy Secretary . _ Bro . Lieut .-Col . F . J . Stohwasser , P . M ., Sec , replied , and said he had consulted an influential member of the lodge , who advised his acceptance of theoffic ; tendered him . The Fitzroy Lodge had been in existence for upwards of 50 years , and that was the first instance of a member of it being a Grand Officer . He thanked the brethren most heartily for their felicitous congratulations .

In giving "The Past Masters" the acting W . M . spoke of the services of the Past Masters to the lodge , and alluded especially to Bro . Hillman , coupling his name with the toast . Bro . Hillman replied , advocating the attendance of the officers and all the brethren at the lodge of instruction .

The acting W . M . having given " The Health and speedy recovery of the W . M ., " the toast of "The Visitors" followed . ^ Bro . Glover , P . M ., replied at some' length . "The Officers of the Lodge " and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close .

The musical items during the evening were contributed by Miss Gertrude Snow , Mr . Arthur Weston , and Mr . Phil Payne ; a clever ventriloquial sketch by Mr . Le Hay and Mr . Barclay Gammon being well received . Tynan Lodge , No . 1110 .

INSTALLATION OF BRO . FREDERICK PIKE . The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Gildredge Hotel , Eastbourne , on Monday , the 25 th instant . Bro . Frederick G . Dive , W . M ., presided , and the minutes ot the previous meeting having been read an ! confirmed , proceeded to instal Bro . Frederick Pike , W . M . elect , as his successor in the chair of K . S . The ceremony was ably performed , and at the close Bro . Dive was invested with the collar of LP . M . The following were appointed and invested as oflicers for the year , namely , Bros . Alex Ii . "The King , the Protector of the Craft , " having been given , and most loyally received , " God save the King " was sung . The toast of " H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , M . W . G . M ., " was next presented , followed by that of "The M . W . Pro G . M ., the Earl Amherst ; the R . W . Deputy G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " Bro . H . J . Adams , P . G . Std . Br ., replying in an amusing speech . Bro . W . H . Hillman , P . M ., in proposing "The Health ofthe LP . M . ( acting W . M . ) , " regretted the absence , through illness , of the W . M ., and alluded to the admirable manner in which the I . P . M . had performed his work that evening .

The l . l ' . M ., in reply , spoke of the attachment he felt to the lodge ; that he , as a Past Master , would ever be ready to assist as far as lay in his power the working when required . The acting W . M ., in proposing ' * The Health of the Initiates , " said what a pleasure it was to receive them as brethren of the loi ^ e . The initiates briefly replied .

' The Treasurer and Secietary " was proposed by the acting W . M ., who spoke of the liberal manner in which the colonel had benefitted the lodge ; he announced that the M . W . G . M . had offered him the purple of Grand Lodge in honour of their worthy Secretary . _ Bro . Lieut .-Col . F . J . Stohwasser , P . M ., Sec , replied , and said he had consulted an influential member of the lodge , who advised his acceptance of theoffic ; tendered him . The Fitzroy Lodge had been in existence for upwards of 50 years , and that was the first instance of a member of it being a Grand Officer . He thanked the brethren most heartily for their felicitous congratulations .

In giving "The Past Masters" the acting W . M . spoke of the services of the Past Masters to the lodge , and alluded especially to Bro . Hillman , coupling his name with the toast . Bro . Hillman replied , advocating the attendance of the officers and all the brethren at the lodge of instruction .

The acting W . M . having given " The Health and speedy recovery of the W . M ., " the toast of "The Visitors" followed . ^ Bro . Glover , P . M ., replied at some' length . "The Officers of the Lodge " and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close .

The musical items during the evening were contributed by Miss Gertrude Snow , Mr . Arthur Weston , and Mr . Phil Payne ; a clever ventriloquial sketch by Mr . Le Hay and Mr . Barclay Gammon being well received . Tynan Lodge , No . 1110 .
