of Most Worshipful Grand Master , performed his work in so satisfactory a manner as to leave no doubt that he would prove a worthy Master , and follow in the footsteps of his Majesty the King . The Pro Grand Master , the Earl Amherst , Deputy Grand Master , the Earl of Warwick , and the rest of the Grand Officers , are all worthy men , and have done much for the good of Freemasonry . Each toast was enthusiastically received .

The I . P . M ., Bro . Tayler , in proposing the toast of the evening , that of "The VV . M ., " said that he was confident it would be received with the greatest cordiality . He had known Bro . Tuck for over 17 years , and had had the privilege of introducing him—a good man—to the lodge , and had worked with him , he trusted , for the good of Freemasonry , since his initiation to the time of his attaining his p resent exalted position . It was with every confidence he stated that whatever Bro . Tuck could do for the good of Freemasonry he was sure would be done with all his might .

The W . M ., in response , thanked the I . P . M . for the terms in which he bad proposed , and the brethren for the very enthusiastic manner in which they had received the toast , and assured them that he had in the past carried out his duties with a good heart and should continue to do so in the future . He considered the two great events of his life were those of his initiation and installation as W . M ., and so far as lay in his power he should maintain the true traditions of Freemasonry , and the reputation of the lodge .

Thetoastof " The Installing Master and I . P . M . " was then proposed by the VV . M ., who stated that the Shakesperian quotation on the programs , " Now I have done a good day ' s work , " very aptly described the situation . Bro . Tayler , the I . P . M ., had done excellent work in a most laudable manner . They had been most iu'imate friends for many years , and the brethren would , therefore , understand the extreme pleasure it

afforded him to present Bro . Tayler , on behalf of the members , with a Past Master s jewel . ( Applause . ) He most cordially congratulated him on his perfect work in the lodge , not only on this occasion when he carried out the duties of Installing Master in so highly satisfactory a manner , but also throughout his year of office , and he trusted the lodge would have the benefit of his assistance and advice in the future .

Bro , Taylor , I . P . M ., in a graceful speech , thanked the W . M . and the brethren foe the honour they had conferred upon him . He assured them that the Past Master ' s jewel which they had voted to him , and which had just been presented to him with such kind words from the VV . M ., would be highly treasured by him , and would serve to remind him of the many happy hours he had spent in the lodge . They had heard a great deal of his voice that evening , and he would therefore say no more except to thank them very sincerely for the cordial way in which they had responded to ths toast propositi in such feeling terms by the W . M .

The toast of "The Visitors" was then suitably proposed and heartily acknowledged . Thc W . AL , in proposing the toast of "The Past Masters-, " thanked Bro , Forbes , P . M ., for the beautiful flowers he had so kindly given to the members on this and former occasions . Bro . Forbes , P . M ., in reply , stated that he intended the flowers to show in some measure the great respect he had for the lodge , and he also gave them as a personal tribute to the VV . M . He hoped the members would take them home as a little memento of a very charming evening .

The other toasts were "The Treasurer and Secretary , " "The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler's toast . Bro . Gompertz , Sec , in an appropriate speech , pointed out that the success of the lodge was due to the fact that the brethren were a unite 1 family , and worked together for the common good . An excellent musical programme was provided under the direction of Bro . James F . Haskins , P . P . G . Org . Herts and Essex , who was very ably assisted at the piano by his

son , Mr . F . Gauntlett Haskins . Bro . Robert Grice sang in his accustomed grandstyle , Bro . Lupson ' s sweet tenor voice was heard to perfection ; Miss Cecilia Haskins has a good enunciation and a cultured voice , which was heard to great advantage in Trotcre's charming " Lavender Girl . " Miss Florence Croft and Bro . D'Arcy Clayton charmed the brethren with de Kovcn ' s beautiful duet , " O promise me , " and Bros . Reg . Low and Goddard , P . M ., amused thc brethren with humorous selections . Tne singing of " Auld Lang Syne " concluded a most enjoyable evening .

M ,, then rose , and said it was his very pleasant duty to present the W . M ., Bro . Orfeur , with a Past Master ' s jewel , which he had well earned by his valuable services during the last 12 months in

the chair , and they were all agreed that he had had a most successful year of ofiice , which he was sure would continue during his new reign , but he regretted that he would not be able to wear the jewel until he vacated the chair . In response , Bro . Orfeur , VV . M ., tendered his best thanks for thc jewel , which he should esteem as long as he lived . It was unanimously resolved to have a ladies' night , and a Committee was appointed to cany out the details . A gentleman was proposed for initiation at the next meeiing , and after other business the lodge was closed .

'Ihe banquet which followed was everything that could be dcsiied , for whicli Bro . II . C . Ainendt , the General Manager of the Great Eastern Railway Company ' s Hotels , was responsible , it being admirably served under his personal superintendence . The customary loyil and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , The l . l ' . M ., Bro . T . T . Gething , gave " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . Orfeur , " and said it was the only toast he had to propose , and asked them to drink it most heartily and to give liberally to his list as Steward for the Old People , which would

show that Ibey appreciated his great services for the lodge and help to keep up the great reputation the Clapton Lodge had for ils support of the Institutions . They were already Vice-Pres iknt of the 1 Joys' and GUIs' Schools , and he urged them to make every effort to become v"ice-President of the Old People's Institution . What was said ol thc W . M . when he was installed last year had been moic than realised , and now tr at he was slatting on a second year of ollice he did so with the best wishes of them all , to that he might have , if it was possible , a more pleasant and successful time .

Bro . Orfeur , VV .. M ., on rising to respond , was received with great enthusiasm , lie thanked Bro . Gething for his kind words , and the members for the way the toast had been received . When he was installed last year he had no idea that he would be asked to occupy the chair a second year in succession , . 1 nd he very much regretted the reason why he had been re-elected . He appreciated the many kindnesses he had received at their hands , and might he beg of them to make him a happier man by giving freely to his list ( or the Old People , and if the ladt / e became a Vice-President of that Institution during thc time he was in the chair if would nuke him a proud man . he said that with their kind support he hoped to give thsm every satisfaction as Mister during his second year of office . The W . M . proposed "The I . P . M ., Bro . Gething , " remarking that they had evidence of what he had done in the past for the lodge , and what he had done that evening . He was a splendid Mason , a good fellow , and one of the best of friends , and what could they have better ?

In response "Bro . Gething , I . P . M ., stated that he appreciated the kind remarks of the W . M ., and if anything he could do to promote the interests of the lodge he would be only too happy . In giving "The Installing Master , Bro . A . H . Church , P . M ., " the W . M . stated that the brethren would admit that be had done the installation ceremony that evening as ably as it could be performed , and he thanked him for his services . This was the second time he had acted as Installing Master in the lodge , but whatever he did in the ritual was always done in a masterly manner , and it would be difficult to excel him . ( Great applause ) .

Bro . A . H . Church , P . M ., responded in an eloquent speech , and urged all the members to join the lodge of instruction connected with the lodge , and m ike themselves efficient , so that if called upon they would be ready to take office ; for instance , the J . W ., Bro . C . R . Campbell , was already capable of going into the chair , and he was happy to say that he was a member of their lodge of instruction .

Thetoastof "The Visitors " came next , the W . M . observing that he hoped they would go away with all good thoughts of the lodge , and he trusted they would com 5 again . T . West .

Bro . Fearon responded , and said he thought it was a pleasurable duty to visit lodges . The working was admirable ; he had had a Masonic treat , and he should report to his lodge the pleasant evening he had spent at the C ( ip * . o 1 Lodje . Bro . Tipton also acknowledged the toast , congratulating the W . M . and the lod ^ e on such a successful gathering . Bro . R . T . West also responded .

Orfeur , had carried out his duties in an admirable manner , and they had no doubt that would continue during his second year of office as W . M .

Bro . W . D . Church , P . M ., Sec , also responded , thanking the W . M . for again appointing him to the office of Secretary , which he loved .

He mentioned each of the visitors by name , and gave them all a hearty welcome , coupling with the toast the names of Bros . P . D . Fearon , W . M . 1107 ; T . B . Tipton , W . M . 27 S 9 ; and R . T . West .

M ., and the energetic Secretary , Bro . W . D . Church , P . M . Bro . W . Blackburn , P . M ., responded , and said that he hoped Treasurers of other lodges had such a good account to render as he had . They had more moiey than tiny had ever had before , or , in other words , they were rich , and had a splendid balance . The W . M ., Bro . Orfeur , had carried out his duties in an admirable manner , and they had no doubt that would continue during his second year of office as W . M .

Bro . W . D . Church , P . M ., Sec , also responded , thanking the W . M . for again appointing him to the office of Secretary , which he loved . H ; agreed with th : Treisurer that the lodge was in a sound condition , and strong enough without seeking initiates , but they did not mind having one or two a year . Suitable responses were also made by Bros . A . Tucker , P . M . ; W . H . Cito . i , P . M .: and A . H . Church , P . M .

The toast of "The Officers of the Lodge" was proposed by the W . M . in terms of eulogium , and duly acknowledged . The Tylet ' s toast brought to an end a most happy and enjoyable eveninj .
