Samuel Rains , which proving unanimous in his favour , he was initiated by Bro . J . Irlam , P . M ., in his usual masterly style , the working tools being rendered by Bro . O . M . Jones , P . M . Bro . A . Griffiths

was then raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . J . M . Moss , P . M ., & c , in a most beautiful and impressive manner . 1 he lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the social board , where songs were rendered by Bros . Carr , Anderton , Shaw , Nesbitt , and Voyce , and a violin solo by Bro . Griffiths .

be voted from the lodge funds to the Soldiers and Sailors' Widows' and Orphans ' Fund ; and a Past Master ' s jewel was voted by acclamation to the outgoing W . M ., Bro . Fairbank , in recognition of his valuable services to the lodge during the past year . The Charity maul having been passed round , the Iodge was closed . The brethren afterwards dined together , the banquet being of a most recherche description , and the proceedings were enhanced by the performance of some excellent part songs and instrumental music , for which this lodge is famed ,

The J . elect not being present , the installation of Third Principal was deferred . The candidate for exaltation was not present . The M . E . The Auditors' report was submitted , received , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . A letter of condolence was ordered to be sent to Comp . Frye on the death of his wife . A brother was proposed for exaltation at the next convocation , and , after " Hearty good wishes , "' the chapter was closed . After the banquet the M . E . Z . gave the usual toasts .

In proposing "The Queen and Royal Arch Masonry , '' the M . E . Z . spoke of the sympathy her Majesty had ever shown , particularly at this eventful period with her brave soldiers and sailors , who were willing to lay down their lives in loyal service to their Queen and country . " God Save the Queen " was sung . The M . E . Z . next gave "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . E . G . Z . of the Order . " He said the interest the M . E . G . Z . evinced for the R . A ., and , indeed , for every branch of Freemasonry , had endeared him to all the brethren at home and abroad . " God Bless the Prince of Wales . "

The next toast was "The Pro G . Z ., the G . H ., and the G . J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " The M . E . Z . alluded to the readinessjof the Grand Officers to assist in any of the ceremonies—in fact they were not only ornamental but also serviceable in R . A . Masonry . He coupled with the toast the name of Comp . W . J . Mason , P . G . Std . Br . Comp . Mason replied on behalf of the Grand Officers . He spolre of the active work and financial assistance they rendered to R . A . Masonry . They considered it their duty to maintain the dignity of the Order , and they had ever its interests at heart . He wished the companions present the best Christmas greetings and a happy New Year .

Comp . S . H . Parkhouse , father of the chapter , gave "The Health ofthe M . E . Z . " He said the M . E . Z . had risen frorn the lowest office to his present exalted position ] he gave great promise of efficiency in the future . The M . E . Z . replied briefly . He thanked Comp . Parkhouse and the companions for the great kindness they had ever shown him since he became a member of the chapter . He would ever strive to merit their approbation and esteem .

Comp . Driver recited his pitrijtic poem , Ready , aye ready , " which was received with great applause . The M . E . Z . gave the toast of "The H . and J . " The H . and J . replied . The H . said how he had been deepl y impressed by the beautiful ceremony of installation , and he felt personally much obliged to Comp . Divis for the able rendering he had given it . Como . C E . Cassal ! , J . elect , regretted that he had been unable to be present in

time to be installed by Comp . Davis . In the course of his remarks he alluded to the feelings of patriotism which had been evinced in Comp . Driver ' s spirit-stirring verses — he felt sure they were echoed by all present . 'I'he M . E . Z . gave " The Visitors . " In a few kind words he alluded ti each . He especially spoke of Comp . Dehane , the esteemed Preceptor of the Horns ; y Chapter of Instruction . He said he felt extremely grateful to him for the kind care he hid so readily given to Comp . Armfield and himself , with this difference—that , whereas C 0310 ,

Armfield had proved an apt pupil , he ( the M . E . Z . ) was afraid he had not been much credit to their mutual instructor . However , he still hoped to improve . Comp . Dehane was the lirst to reply . He alluded to the excellent work of the Installing Principal , Comp . Davis . With regard to his two pupils—the M . E . Z . and Prin . Soj . —he had great hopes of both . If they did not each excel in their respective duties it would be to him a matter of surprise ; for his part , he would do all that lay in his power to render them efficient . Comp . Driver said he attended in a double capacity—as a standing guest of the

chapter and a reporter of the proceedings . In his latter capacity , he had been well satisfied ; as a guest , he heartily thanked the chapter , and wished it still increasing prosperity . Comp . Huish also replied . "The Installing Z . and P . Zs . " followed . Comp . Davis and P . Zs . replied . The Principal Sojourner and Steward replied to the toast of " The Officers of the Chapter . " The Janitor's toast concluded the evening .

M ., gave notice that he would , at the next meeting , propose that a sum of money

be voted from the lodge funds to the Soldiers and Sailors' Widows' and Orphans ' Fund ; and a Past Master ' s jewel was voted by acclamation to the outgoing W . M ., Bro . Fairbank , in recognition of his valuable services to the lodge during the past year . The Charity maul having been passed round , the Iodge was closed . The brethren afterwards dined together , the banquet being of a most recherche description , and the proceedings were enhanced by the performance of some excellent part songs and instrumental music , for which this lodge is famed ,

The Auditors' report was submitted , received , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . A letter of condolence was ordered to be sent to Comp . Frye on the death of his wife . A brother was proposed for exaltation at the next convocation , and , after " Hearty good wishes , "' the chapter was closed . After the banquet the M . E . Z . gave the usual toasts .

In proposing "The Queen and Royal Arch Masonry , '' the M . E . Z . spoke of the sympathy her Majesty had ever shown , particularly at this eventful period with her brave soldiers and sailors , who were willing to lay down their lives in loyal service to their Queen and country . " God Save the Queen " was sung . The M . E . Z . next gave "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . E . G . Z . of the Order . " He said the interest the M . E . G . Z . evinced for the R . A ., and , indeed , for every branch of Freemasonry , had endeared him to all the brethren at home and abroad . " God Bless the Prince of Wales . "

The next toast was "The Pro G . Z ., the G . H ., and the G . J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " The M . E . Z . alluded to the readinessjof the Grand Officers to assist in any of the ceremonies—in fact they were not only ornamental but also serviceable in R . A . Masonry . He coupled with the toast the name of Comp . W . J . Mason , P . G . Std . Br . Comp . Mason replied on behalf of the Grand Officers . He spolre of the active work and financial assistance they rendered to R . A . Masonry . They considered it their duty to maintain the dignity of the Order , and they had ever its interests at heart . He wished the companions present the best Christmas greetings and a happy New Year .

Comp . S . H . Parkhouse , father of the chapter , gave "The Health ofthe M . E . Z . " He said the M . E . Z . had risen frorn the lowest office to his present exalted position ] he gave great promise of efficiency in the future . The M . E . Z . replied briefly . He thanked Comp . Parkhouse and the companions for the great kindness they had ever shown him since he became a member of the chapter . He would ever strive to merit their approbation and esteem .

Comp . Driver recited his pitrijtic poem , Ready , aye ready , " which was received with great applause . The M . E . Z . gave the toast of "The H . and J . " The H . and J . replied . The H . said how he had been deepl y impressed by the beautiful ceremony of installation , and he felt personally much obliged to Comp . Divis for the able rendering he had given it . Como . C E . Cassal ! , J . elect , regretted that he had been unable to be present in

time to be installed by Comp . Davis . In the course of his remarks he alluded to the feelings of patriotism which had been evinced in Comp . Driver ' s spirit-stirring verses — he felt sure they were echoed by all present . 'I'he M . E . Z . gave " The Visitors . " In a few kind words he alluded ti each . He especially spoke of Comp . Dehane , the esteemed Preceptor of the Horns ; y Chapter of Instruction . He said he felt extremely grateful to him for the kind care he hid so readily given to Comp . Armfield and himself , with this difference—that , whereas C 0310 ,

Armfield had proved an apt pupil , he ( the M . E . Z . ) was afraid he had not been much credit to their mutual instructor . However , he still hoped to improve . Comp . Dehane was the lirst to reply . He alluded to the excellent work of the Installing Principal , Comp . Davis . With regard to his two pupils—the M . E . Z . and Prin . Soj . —he had great hopes of both . If they did not each excel in their respective duties it would be to him a matter of surprise ; for his part , he would do all that lay in his power to render them efficient . Comp . Driver said he attended in a double capacity—as a standing guest of the

chapter and a reporter of the proceedings . In his latter capacity , he had been well satisfied ; as a guest , he heartily thanked the chapter , and wished it still increasing prosperity . Comp . Huish also replied . "The Installing Z . and P . Zs . " followed . Comp . Davis and P . Zs . replied . The Principal Sojourner and Steward replied to the toast of " The Officers of the Chapter . " The Janitor's toast concluded the evening .
