Preceptor Stacey felicitously thanked those present for the h arty manner they had responded to the toast . He said he had now been Preceptor some years , and there was A -cely a greater pleasure he had in life than being prent at the Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , and he hoped to be spared to render what assistance he could to the ; lodge for some years longer . He said the Treasurer . A unavoidably absent , but had he been present he was

sore it would have afforded him much pleasure to have respon to the just encomiums which had been passed upon him . The Secretary , Bro . Snelling , also responded , and thanked them for the cordial manner with which the said he remained

toast had been received . He so long as Secretary it would always be his endeavour to do whatever laid in his power to further the interest of the lodge . He also drew the attention of the members to the Benevolent Fund , vvhich , he said , had been established about three vears , and which in that time had contributed £ 910

towards the Charitable Institutions of the Order ; and he called upon the members to assist him in making thc total £ 1000 , vvhich would place them at the head of the list of Benevolent Associations . 'Ihe W . M . then proposed "Success to the Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , " to vvhich Bro . Leggott responded , and said the lodge afforded invaluable

assistance to those Masons who regularly attended the meetings . The officers weie well up in their work , especially their worthy Preceptor , and anyone who wished to succeed to ofiice would there learn all that was necessary . He also alluded to the Benevolent Fund , in vvhich he had taken considerable interest , and said the highest praise was due

to Bro . Snelling for the interest he evinced in the lodge . A subscription of is . per week to the fund would make them life members , and he strongly urged Masons to avail themselvesof that Association in order that they might contribute to the different charitable organisations connected with thc Craft . Thi installation of Principals was then proceeded with , the visitors , viz , Comps . VV . Stephens and J . L . Mather volunteering their

On completion of this most important ceremony , the following companions were inducted into the several offices , Comp . Birelscye accompanying each investiture with fraternal congratulations and expressions of encouragement and advice to the junior officers . Comps . George

Masonry in a most impressive manner hy Comp . H . Birdseye , the next business was to present to Comp . Chapman the jewel

which had been voted lo him for his services as M . E . Z . This having been done , Comp . Chapman acknowledged the maik of esteem shewn by the companions by assuring them that his whole desire woulel be to promote the harmony and prosperity of his mother chapter . The chapter vvas closed with solemn prayer , and the companions then adjourned to the supper table , where a most enjoyable and hatmonious meeting was brought to a close shortly after 10 o ' clock .

The report of the Audit Committee having been received anel adopted , and the bye-laws read , the W . M . moved , and the S . W . seconded— " That the thanks of the brethren are pre-eminently due to Bros . James Stevens anel Thomas Poore for the able and efficient

manner m which they have carried out thc ceremonial of installation . " This resolution having been carried with acclamation , it was ordered to be entered on the minutes . The lodge vvas then duly closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet , which" was well served . Upon tbe removal of the cloth the customary loyal and Mark toasts were eluly proposed and heartily received . In proposing "The

Health of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . stated that he had received apologies for non-attendance , in consequence of other Masonic engagements , from several numbers of that distinguished body , notably among them being Bros . Binckes , P . G . W . ; Matier , P . G . W . ; Dewar , P . G . O . ; Levander , G . R . In conclusion , he coupled the name of Bro . W . Mann , P . G . R ., wilh the toast , who , in reply , dwelt at length upon the progress and prospects

of the Order , which he said vvere highly satisfactory . Having spoken upon the merits of several of the Grand Officers , he concluded by stating tbat it had afforded him more than an ordinary amount of pleasure in being present that clay at thc installation meeting , in consequence of his having initiated their W . M . into Freemasonry . "The Installing Ofiicers " followed , and in response Bros . Stevens and Poore made many flattering remarks in connection

with the Hammersmith Mark Lodge and its Master . The toast of " The Visitor" came next in succession , and it having been heartily received , Bro . Hopwood , in the course of bis reply , expressed the gratification tbat his first visit to the lodge had given him . In giving "The Health of the I . P . M ., " the W . M . spoke upon the general Masonic and social qualities of Bro . Baldwin , and at the

termination of his speech he presented the I . P . M . with a very handsome jewel in recognition of his services . In acnovvlcelging this compliment , and the testimonial that accompanied it , the I . P . M . made a very excellent response , in which he said that , although it had been his misfortune to have but little " work " to do during his year , yet , in the future he hoped to make up for that deficiency by

discharging the office of Treasurer faithfully'and well , and by assisting in the general business of the lodge . In proposing " The Health of the Officers , " the W . M . congratulated the lodge upon possessing a very excellent staff . He said le particularly wished to express his personal obligations to Bro . Alfrcd Tisley , S . W ., who had acted as Secretary during the past year , and who had succeeded in putting the affaiis

of the lodge in a very sound condition . The officers having replied , the W . M . said that before the brethren separated he wished to drink " The Health of Bro . Gilbert , " their genial host , who unfortunately had been confined to his room several weeks in consequence of a very painful indisposition ; but although necessarily absent , he had

given good instructions to his assistants , and the result had been that the banquet had left nothing to be desired . In conclusion , he trusted that Bro . Gilbert would soon be convalescent . This pledge having been heartily received , the Tyler was called upon to discharge his duties , and the proceedings terminated .

TWICKENH AM . —Francis Burdett Lodge ( 181 ) . —Thc installation meeting of this lodge was held on the 2 ist inst . at the Albany Hotel . Among those in attendance were Bros . W . Taylor , P . P . Stevens for services in connection wilh the ceremonial that day , thc loelge was duly and formally dosed , anil the brethren adjourneel to a well-served banquet , vvhich reflected great credit upon the caterer , Bro . Hanimonel congratulateel the lodge upon possessing so excellent a Mason in thc chair as Bro . Taylor . He ( thc W . M . ) had been connected with the lodge from its commcement , and he had been most untiling in his efforts to promote its interests

and he ( Bro . Hammond ) Uiokcel forward with a great deal of pleasure to the " working" of the lodge under his guidance . The W . M ., having replied , then gave "The Installing Master . " The toast having been received with excellent "fire , " Bro . Stevens briefly replied . "The Visitors" followed , and , in icsponse , Bro . Horsley made a

very humorous speech . " The Past Masters" came next in order , and was acknowledged by Bros . Hammond and Tomlinson . The toast of "The Officers" was coupled with the names of Bros . Hopwood and Sanders , and they having replied , the Tyler ' s toast , at an early hour , terminated thc proceedings , which were throughout highly successful .

Died on the 15 th proximo , after a lingering illness , Bro . David Pullen , P . M ., St . Luke ' s Lodge , No . 144 , aged fifty-eight years , regretted by all who knew him . Bro . Pullen was for over thirty years in the service of Sir Braiulrcth Gibbs , corner of Half Moon-street , Piccadilly , Secretary of thc Smithfield Club . Bro . . Pullen was Assistant Secretary of the Smithfield Club , and as

Assistant Secretary , and for his urbantity and couttesy in that office the exhibitors just before his illness gave him a dinner at St . James ' s Hall , at which about fifty subscribers sat down , presided over by Mr . Gordon , M . P ., when he was presented with a testimonial consisting of a silver tea and coffee service and a purse containing 500 sovereigns . The e ' eceased was buried at Brompton Cemetery , followed by his two sons , Mr . David and Mr .

Charles Pullen ; his two sons-in-law , Mr . Owen and Mr . Collins ; brother-in-law , Mr . Tod ; Sir Brandreth Gibbs , Bro . Dr . Kgan , Bro . Ayshforel , and Bro . William Mann , P . M . 18 G , & c . Health of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . stated that he had received apologies for non-attendance , in consequence of other Masonic engagements , from several numbers of that distinguished body , notably among them being Bros . R ., wilh the toast , who , in reply , dwelt at length upon the progress and prospects

Having spoken upon the merits of several of the Grand Officers , he concluded by stating tbat it had afforded him more than an ordinary amount of pleasure in being present that clay at thc installation meeting , in consequence of his having initiated their W . M . into Freemasonry . "The Installing Ofiicers " followed , and in response Bros . Stevens and Poore made many flattering remarks in connection

with the Hammersmith Mark Lodge and its Master . The toast of " The Visitor" came next in succession , and it having been heartily received , Bro . Hopwood , in the course of bis reply , expressed the gratification tbat his first visit to the lodge had given him . In giving "The Health of the I . P . M ., " the W . M . spoke upon the general Masonic and social qualities of Bro . Baldwin , and at the

termination of his speech he presented the I . P . M . with a very handsome jewel in recognition of his services . In acnovvlcelging this compliment , and the testimonial that accompanied it , the I . P . M . made a very excellent response , in which he said that , although it had been his misfortune to have but little " work " to do during his year , yet , in the future he hoped to make up for that deficiency by

discharging the office of Treasurer faithfully'and well , and by assisting in the general business of the lodge . In proposing " The Health of the Officers , " the W . M . congratulated the lodge upon possessing a very excellent staff . He said le particularly wished to express his personal obligations to Bro . Alfrcd Tisley , S . W ., who had acted as Secretary during the past year , and who had succeeded in putting the affaiis

of the lodge in a very sound condition . The officers having replied , the W . M . said that before the brethren separated he wished to drink " The Health of Bro . Gilbert , " their genial host , who unfortunately had been confined to his room several weeks in consequence of a very painful indisposition ; but although necessarily absent , he had

given good instructions to his assistants , and the result had been that the banquet had left nothing to be desired . In conclusion , he trusted that Bro . Gilbert would soon be convalescent . This pledge having been heartily received , the Tyler was called upon to discharge his duties , and the proceedings terminated .

M . ) had been connected with the lodge from its commcement , and he had been most untiling in his efforts to promote its interests

and he ( Bro . Hammond ) Uiokcel forward with a great deal of pleasure to the " working" of the lodge under his guidance . The W . M ., having replied , then gave "The Installing Master . " The toast having been received with excellent "fire , " Bro . Stevens briefly replied . "The Visitors" followed , and , in icsponse , Bro . Horsley made a

very humorous speech . " The Past Masters" came next in order , and was acknowledged by Bros . Hammond and Tomlinson . The toast of "The Officers" was coupled with the names of Bros . Hopwood and Sanders , and they having replied , the Tyler ' s toast , at an early hour , terminated thc proceedings , which were throughout highly successful .

Died on the 15 th proximo , after a lingering illness , Bro . David Pullen , P . M ., St . Luke ' s Lodge , No . 144 , aged fifty-eight years , regretted by all who knew him . Bro . Pullen was for over thirty years in the service of Sir Braiulrcth Gibbs , corner of Half Moon-street , Piccadilly , Secretary of thc Smithfield Club . Bro . . Pullen was Assistant Secretary of the Smithfield Club , and as

Assistant Secretary , and for his urbantity and couttesy in that office the exhibitors just before his illness gave him a dinner at St . James ' s Hall , at which about fifty subscribers sat down , presided over by Mr . Gordon , M . P ., when he was presented with a testimonial consisting of a silver tea and coffee service and a purse containing 500 sovereigns . The e ' eceased was buried at Brompton Cemetery , followed by his two sons , Mr . David and Mr .
