heartily congratulated the members of the lodge on the accession to the chair of Bro . Austin , and he felt certain that he would leave it after having conferred honour upon himself and done credit to the lodge . Bro . Austin , who was loudly cheered , in responding , said
that he had always taken great interest in the lodge , and he hoped that he should continue to do so from year to year . He acknowledged the encouragement which he had received from the Past Masters , and hoped that with the assistance of his officers he should pass through his year of office with credit to himself and the Craft .
The VV . M . then presented Bro . H . VV . Townsend with a handsome silver salver , bearing the following inscription : — " Presented to Worshipful Brother H . VV . Townsend , on the 20 th of May , 1 S 90 , by the officers and brethren of the Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar Lodge , 1903 , as a mark of their esteem and respect for the zeal and ability displayed by him during the time he was their Worshipful Master
during the years 1 SS 9-90 . " The W . M . expressed a hope that Bro . He then proposed "The Installing Master . " Bro . Townsend , who had a most enthusiastic greeting , replied . He said it was not the first time that he had been
the recipient of a testimonial from that lodge . Some few months after the formation of the lodge he was presented with a very handsome cup as a memento of the formation of the lodge , of which he claimed to be the father , and which he _ treasured very highly . He had already a Past Master ' s jewel , presented to him in that room at the time he completed his term of office as Master of the United

would endeavour to carry out his duties as an officer in that capacity should do , and he felt sure the other officers would strive to support the W . M . during the commission . It only remained for the members of the lodge , who represented the crew , to rally round the flag , and give a little encouragement , which they would all appreciate . During - the evening Bros . Wilton , Haydon , Page , Townsend , and Woodthorpe sang several songs , and Bro . P . H . Emanuel gave a short ventriloquial sketch .

showing a good balance and no liabilities . Comp . Ascott , P . Z ., then , by desire , took the chair of Z ., and in an excellent manner installed Comps . VV . C . Williams , as M . E . Z . ; G . March , H . ; and John Davies , J . The other officers invested were ^ Comps . C A . Cottebrune , P . Z ., one of the Vice-Presidents of the Board of Benevolence , Treas . ; T . W . Allen , P . Z ., S . E . ; L . Ascott , S . N . ; G . Swann ,
P . S . ; and Shepherd , Janitor . The following brethren were then exalted , viz .: Bros . Joseph Cox , 15 S 5 ; Thomas Jobson , S 34 ; and J . H . Haydon , 901 . A vote of thanks was recorded to Comp . Ascott , and suitably responded to , after which a magnificent P . Z . 's jewel ( manufactured by Comp . George Kenning , London ) was presented to the outgoing M . E . Z ., Comp . Earner , Comp . Williams
commenting on the sterling worth and great Masonic qualifications of that companion , who , in responding , tendered his sincere thanks for the present , and the kindness he had invariably received from the companions since he joined , a complete stranger , only knowing one of them personally . Several communications were read , and also applications from the Secretaries of the Masonic Charitable Institutions
for a Steward to represent the chapter at the Festivals . After "Hearty good wishes" the chapter was closed . A sumptuous banquet followed . The usual loyal and Grand Chapter toasts having been given and received with enthusiasm , That of "The M . E . Z . " was proposed by Comp . Earner , who said he considered it not only an honour , but a great
pleasure . He had known Comp . Williams a long time , and had worked with him in the chapter and always found him a good comrade and a good Mason . In calling on the companions to drink the toast in bumpers , he said he felt that he was also calling them to perform a most pleasant and hearty task . The toast having been received with great enthusiasm ,
Comp . Williams thanked them most heartily for their cordial reception of the toast , but yet felt his heart too full to give anything like expression to his feelings . Theirs was a good chapter . It had its ups and downs , many bright and happy days , as well as dark and sombre ones . He was proud to say all was bright and prosperous now , they were doing well , and would , he hoped , continue to do so . He
was proud of the position to which they had elevated him , and begged them remember that no First Principal could successfully carry out his duties unless he was supported by every officer in the chapter , and asked them to be as blind as they could to his faults , and to his virtues more than kind . The toast of " The Visitors " followed , and was responded to by Comp . Causton , who expatiated on the admirable
working of the M . E . Z . and his officers . Comp . Dehane , in responding , reminded the companions that attendance at chapters of improvement was necessary , and conduced to such working as they had witnessed that evening . Comp . G . Davies also added a few words of praise and commendation , and augured a bright future with such
officers as they had . Comp . Sims also added his testimony of satisfaction , as did also Comps . Chalfont and Cruttenden . All the other visitors also responded . The Exaltees promised to do all they could to render themselves proficient and fit to take office should they be called upon to do so .
The other toasts were "The Past Principals , " "The Officers , " "The P . S ., Comp . Swann" ( who received quite an ovation ) , and the Janitor ' s toast concluded a very pleasant evening . The proceedings were enlivened with music and harmony by Comps . Heath , Cruttenden , and others .
