Consecration Of The Abbey Chapter, No. 2030.

CONSECRATION OF THE ABBEY CHAPTER , No . 2030 .

The consecration of the above chapter took place at the Town Hall , Westminster , on the 19 th instant , in the presence of a numerous gathering of Royal Arch Masons . The chapter is supported by a strong and influential lodge , which has been doing good Masonic work in the Metropolis for

some years past , and with a numerous body of founders and nearly a score of candidates proposed for exaltation , has every prospect of success . Comps . W . Bonwick , J . R . Cleave , and E . Newland were the Principals designate , whilst Comp . E . J . Turnbull—who has rendered good service in the formation of the chapter—occupies the onerous position of S . E .

The consecration ceremony was carried out by Comps . E . Letchworth , G . S . E . ; J . D . Langton , P . G . S . B ., as H . ( in the unavoidable absence of Comp . T . Fenn , G . S . N . ) - ; Rev . J . S . Browhrigg , G . Supt . Bucks , as J . ; F . Richardson , G . D . C , as D . C . ; and James Stephens , P . G . Std . Br ., as S . N .

The founders consisted of the following : Comps . W . Bonwick , J . R . Cleave , E . Newland , E , J . Turnbull , W . T . Potts , J . Gibson , W . R . Dunn , J . H . Montague , G . White , H . E . Herman , F . Todman , T . J . Mountain , J . Bartlett , H . E , Poole , S . F . Atkins , R . P . Webster , J . Squires , F . A . Sherras , G . B . Spicer , W . Weeden , A . Baxter , F . J . Smith , G . R . W . Wheeler , G . W . Townsend , F . Stallard , and T . Flury .

Visitors : Comps . A . F . Jtffery , 452 ; C . Arnold , S 20 ; W . O . Welsford , H . 1321 ; R . W . Wilson , P . P . G . S . B . Surrey ; J . Freer ; J . Kift , 171 ; H . W . Schartau ; T . J . Cocks , 145 ; VV . Balchin , 145 ; F . Bevan , W . H . Toye , 554 ; T . H . Hobbs , M . E . Z . 177 ; A . Prettijohn , 134 ; E . W . Hobbs , 177 ; F . A . Fratten , 177 ; R . E . H . Goffin , 1572 ; F . A . Powell , P . Z . ; VV . F . Bates , P . Z . ; J . J . Cantle , P . Z . ; F . Purkis ^ , 771 ;

After the opening of the chapter , theCoNSKCRATiNG PRiNCirAL , add'essing the companions on the nature of the meeting , said it was about 13 years ago that a lodge was started in that building by his predecessor which had since borne the name of the Abbey Lodge . It had enjoyed a career of great

prosperity having been constituted under , he believed , singularly auspicious circumstances . A large number of members had joined it and he believed it was now one of the most important and largest lodges in the Metropolis . In the natural order of things it should desire to have a R . A . chapter attached . The petition for the chapter he need hardly say had been readily granted , and they had met that day for the purpose of constituting that

chapter and starting it into existence . He felt sure he was expressing the feelings of all present when he said they hoped it might have before it a career of the greatest possible prosperity . The founders signified their approve ! of the ofiicers named to preside over them , and an interesting oration having been delivered by Comp . Rev . J . S . BROWNRIOO , G . Supt . Bjcks ., the new chapter was solemnly dedicated and constituted . The following companions were installed into their respective chairs by Comp . Rev . J . S . Brownrigg , viz ., Comps . W .

W . Bonwick , M . E . Z . ; J . RCleave , H . ; F . Newland , J .
