Z ., who remarked that those who knew Comp . Mumford , the M . E . Z ., would know he was the right man in the right place , and as he had done so well when occupying the other chairs , there was no doubt he would also

do well during the forthcoming year as their First Principal . Comp . M . J . Mumford , M . E . Z ., returned sincere thanks for the hearty way in which the toast of his health had been received . He was pleased to be amongst them and to be surrounded by so many companions . He could not quite endorse all the l . P . Z . had said , but he could say that he had always tried in the various offices to do his best . He

had not shone that night as he would like to shine , but he knew they , would forgive him . During the coming year he would endeavour to do the work to their satisfaction . The M . E . Z . then gave "The Installing P . Z ., " and said he was very much impressed with the manner in which Comp . Williams , P . Z ., performed tbe ceremonies , and as that companion was always ready to assist them when

required , the members would heartily drink to his long life and happiness . Comp . Woolmer Williams , P . Z ., said he felt flattered at the reception of the toast . Having been one of the founders , he naturally took a great interest in the welfare of the chapter , and was only too pleased to be allowed the privilege of assisting . It was indeed a privilege to be allowed

to do any work in a chapter so well known for its working . Comp . R . C . Leversedge , I . P . Z ., replied for "The 1 . Z . 's , " and returned thanks for himself and colleagues . It was always the wish of the Past Principals to do all they could ^ for the chapter to which they belonged , and the M . E . prosperity . " fhe Exaltee " having been honoured , " The Treasurer and S . E . " was cordially given by the M . E . Z . Comp . W . E . Williams , Treas ., said it was a great pride to him to occupy the post of Treasurer . From the formation of the chapter , 10 or it years ago , there had been but one feeling , that of unanimity and good-will , which he hoped would long continue . As long as he was spared he

hoped to continue to be their Treasurer , and receive the kind reception accorded him that evening . Comp . George Gregory , P . Z ., S . E ., said it was pleasant at all times to hear the kind manner in which his name was coupled with that toast . ' He had endeavoured to do his 'evel best to maintain the prestige of that chapter , and he somewhat flattered himself they had succeeded . It was always a pleasure to be amongst the companions , because

he felt at home , having been the first exaltee , and having had the honour of passing the principal chair twice , and since that he had received their confidence and been placed in the position of S . Z . 132 G , for the great services he had

rendered to the chapter that evening by his kind assistance at the installation . He would always be made welcome amongst the companions . This was seconded by the I . P . Z ., and carried unanimously . Comp . G . R . Langley returned thanks for the great compliment paid him , and assured the companions of the chapter that anything he could do for the prosperity of the chapter would give him great

pleasure . The M . E . Z ., in a few'kind and chosen words presented Comp . S . Hewett with a very handsome Past Principal ' s jewel , and in acknowledging the same the l . P . Z . thanked the companions for their confidence in him , and assured them he should always have the prosperity of the chapter at heart . He was their first M . E . Z ., and he was proud of the jewel and the success of the chapter , 20

brethren having been exalted during his year of office . He was under great obligation to Comp . Cox and several other companions for their assistance , not forgetting Comps . G . R . Langley and J . J . Woolley . The chapter was then closed , and the companions adjourned to a sumptuous banquet , provided for them in the Prince's Room , where Bro . Bertini , the courteous manager

( assisted by Bro . Aubenal ) , was there to receive them . The usual toasts were heartily honoured , and the M . E . Z . in responding to his health , assured the companions he felt highly honoured for the proud position they had placed him in , and would not only endeavour to do his work satisfactorily , but have the prosperity of the chapter at heart . The Exaltees said they had been delighted with the

work , and it afforded them great pleasure to be amongst so many companions whom they knew . The toast of "The Visitors" was drunk with great enthusiasm , and was replied to by all , Comp . Langley assuring the companions that he had been delighted to be with them that evening , which had proved most enjoyable to all .

The I . P . Z ., in replying to the toast of his health , said that he much appreciated the kindness of the companions in placing him as their first M . E . Z . It had been cne of the happiest times of his life in Masonry , and as for the very beautiful jewel which had been presented to him , he should always value and wear it , more especially as it was the first . He had performed his work to the best of his ability , and it

was a pleasure to know that during his year of office 20 companions had been exalted into Royal Arch Masonry in this chapter . The toast of "The Officers" was replied to by Comps . Burgess , Treas ., and G . Reynolds , S . E ., who said that it was a great pleasure to feel and to know that the chapter for the first year had been so successful . It was a reward

for all labour . There were more brethren who had promised to be exalted into the chapter , and no doubt the M . E . Z . would have a good year . The number of companions now in the chapter that evening had been raised to 42 , which was a good commencement . He trusted all would work harmoniously together for its further success . He wished to thank many companions , not only in

the chapter but outside , for the very kind assistance given him in helping him to carry out the duties of Scribe E . The Janitor ' s toast brought the proceedings to a happy conclusion . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Comp . Herbert Schartau , assisted by Miss Jones and several companions , which gave great satisfaction . The jewel was manufactured by Comp . George Kenning .

and the companions adjourned to banquet . The usual toasts were afterwards cordially given . "The Health of the M . E . Z . " was given by Comp . Leversedge , I . P .

E . Z . could rely upon their hearty co-operation and assistance in everything conducive to its success and

prosperity .

E . He always did the best he could for the chapter , and so long as he enjoyed their confidence and was elected to the office , it would be a pleasure to serve them to the best of his ability . " The Visitors " was given , and cordially acknowledged , and the Janitor's toast concluded a pleasant evening .
