Ordnance Lodge ( No . 2399 ) . —The iminent departure to Gibraltar on special duty of Bro . Col . C . E . Vansittart , O . S . C , the esteemed VV . M . of the lodge , was the means of bringing a goodly array of the members and visitors of other lodges together to wish " God-speed and a safe journey " to our respected brother , and the meeting under notice took place on Friday , the gth inst ., at
Freemasons' Hall . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., and the minutes of the previous meeti"g having been read and confirmed , three candidates were initiated and two raised . Among the other brethren present were J . Bilton , S . W . ; Capt . Woollett , J . W . ; Capt . G . Spinks , P . M ., P . P . G . S ., Treas . ; T . Robertson , P . M ., Sec ; J . Lee , S . D . ; F . Tales , 17 S 9 ; and others . Bro . Spinks , in proposing the toast of "TheW . M ., " said that their esteemed VV . M . was about to leave them , and depart to Gibraltar on her Most Gracious Majesty ' s
service . Bro . Col . Vansittart was one of the founders of their lodge , and all present were proud to see him in the chair . Bro . Vansittart had only been four times in the chair , that was to say four of their lodge meetings , and in that time he had initiated tight candidates , all of whom had been brought to that lodge by his influence . He felt sure they would join with him in wishing Bro . Col . Vansittart a
sale journey , a good reception on the Rock , and a speedy return to his native country should he desire it . Bro . Vansittart , who was loudly cheered as he rose to respond to the toast , said he had to thank them very heartily for their kind reception . He could not tell them hotv sorry he was at leaving England , although he was not at all in love with the climate , yet he had so many friends ,
especially in Woolwich , and more especially in that lodge , that he was sorry to leave them , and in the middle of his year of office . Circumstances over which he had no control compelled him to leave , however much he might regret it . When he got to Gibraltar he should always think of them , and they , lie felt sure , would not forget him . After referring to the prosperity of the lodge , he concluded by huping some day to be with them again , and once more associate with his brethren of the Ordnance Lodge .
PORTLAND . Portland Lodge ( No . 1037 ) . — The usual monthly meeting ei this lodge was held on the 15 th inst . at the Masonic Hall , when an almost unprecedented programme was carried through , greatl y to the satisfaction of all concerned . After the usual preliminaries , one brother was passed to the Degree of F . C ., and then seven brethren
were balloted for as joining members ; this , however , did not linisn the balloting , as there were two candidates for initiation to be balloted for , which was unanimous in every case . One who had already passed the ballot was then initiated by the W . M ., Bro . J . W . Board , in his usual impressive manner ; but it is not of mere numbers , which are often deceiving , that this lodge has to be proud of , but of
the position it holds with regard to the Masonic Charities . Although this lodge has now only G 2 bona fide members , it has , we believe , the greatest voting power of any lodge in the Province of Dorset , being able to command nearly 4 votes . Such a state of things are due mainly to the untiring zeal and energy of its capital Charity Steward , Bro . C . J . Freeman , P . P . G . S . of W ., Chap . But the p leasantest
part of this interesting programme had yet to be performed , which consisted in the presentation of a handsome Past Master ' s jewel and a collar to Bro . T . Eveleigh , D . C ; this brother , who has been a Mason since tSOij , and who has been in Portland Lodge since 18 S 1 , became its W . M . in iS . SS . The admirable manner in which he carried out his duties in the chair , and since then the readiness which he has shown in coming forward to perforin any ceremony
when required to do so , coupled with his very impressive rendering of the ritual , has endeared him to all the brethren without exception . He has been the Instilling Master ot the lodge since his retirement Irom the chair , and it is not too much to say of him that , in the performance of that onerous function , he is simply peerless . _ , , After a few appropriate remarks from Bro . T . Eveleigh , the lodge was closed , and the brethren retired to partake ot their well-earned refreshment .
REDHILL . Royal Albert Edward Lodge ( No . \ y >*) —The installation of Bro . Alderman Markham as VV . Aj . took place on Saturday , the 17 th inst ., under very auspicious circumstances . In the afternoon the lodge was convened in the lodge room in the small Market Hall , and wasopened . There was a large attendance , including Bros . Col . G . N .

which he is held by ' the brethren , and to mark the close of a very successful and harmonious year of office . The jewel was affixed by the D . P . G . M .. who expressed the pleasure which it afforded him to perforin the duty , knowing as he did that Bro . Thorp had filled the chair during the year with a great amount of credit , both to the lodge and to himself . Bro . Thorp having returned thanks for the gift , " Hearty good wishes " and congratulations were
tendered by the brethren . Two gentlemen were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . _ The lodge having been closed , the brethren and visitors , to the number of about So , adjourned to the banquet , after which the usual loyal and Craft toasts were given and responded to in the customiry hearty manner .
