I looked around , and soon espied A group just further on , And plump and ruddy was their flesh , Aud good clothes they did don . I saw some lazy , loafing men , Who gazed upon the scene ;

I saw the distant cliffs look grand , In summer verdure clad ; The shrimpers shrimping far beneath , And eyes and heart were glad . I saw some lads with rakes and pails , At ebb-tide on the sands ; And they were " cockl'ing " ; for their food Depended on their hands .
I saw the swimmers in the sea Disporting with the waves , And felt the joy that man must feel When he another saves . I saw the sun arise at morn , Ancl set again at night , And cloud and sky , and earth and sea Were bathed in glorious light .
