He also gave the traditionary history of the third degree illustrated by reference to the tracing board , in a manner which proved he had well studied and was completely master of his subject . This was one of tbe most solemn and at
the same time melancholy Masonic meetings it has ever been our lot to attend . The sudden death of Bro . Muntz , J . D . of tho lodge , ( referred to iu another portion of these pages ) was in itself enough on such an occasion to depress the spirits of all present , and cause them to think deeply ou the awful uncertainty attending this life ; ( his vacant chair alas too sad and sure a proof ) but when it is considered that with the exception of one or two , every brother had only a few hours previously returned from
witnessing the lowering of the body of their lost brother into the grave , all Masonic readers of this , will understand how the figurative ceremonies of the third degree were painfully increased ; all were sensibly affected , many very much so . Bro . Gallienne read in a feeling manner and with his usual good taste a funeral oration , front Preston ' s well-known work . This Beautiful composition is most marked with religious gravity , and was peculiarly
applicable to the melancholy circumstance which was the cause of its delivery . The lodge room was in mourning and will remain so for three months . By a notice conspicuously exhibited in the ante-rooai , all brethren were requested to attend in the habiliments of mourning . Thanks are due to Bro . Churchouse for his kind performance on the harmonium . The lodge was closed shortly after nine , and all at once separated , no refreshment of any kindlieing partaken of .
