" JUSTITIA" ASD THE " OBSERVER FACTION . "

TO THE EUITOR 01 ' THE HVEEMASONS' MAGAZINE A . XD MASONIC HIMUVn , Sin ASD Br . OTiiEii , —In your last number there appears under the above heading a letter from Bro . II . Garrod , of if \ o . 11 Lodge , in which that brother takes great exception to the observations contained in my letter of the 23 rd ultimo . Bro . Garrod says that my former letter was " couched in terms of

scurrility , " that I " descended to contemptuous expressions towards Bro . Whitmore , " and that " I characterize opponents by opprobrious epithets . " Those of your readers who may have taken the trouble to peruse my letter can judge for themselves whether it is open to those strong observations . They accepted thc challenge , and the Grand Registrar determined to appeal to the M . W . Grand Master , immediately on the opening of Grand Lodge , to take Bro . Whitmorc ' s motion , and thus ensure its being discussed and

dealt with . It was publicly stated and admitted in Grand Lodge that the Grand Begistrar had given Bro . Whitmore due notice of his intention , so that he might not he taken hy surprise . We arc told , however , that " discretion is the better part of valour , " and this might have been Bro . Whitmorc's opinion . In any case , certain it is that Bro . Whitmore did not think fit to attend in his place in Grand Lodge to substantiate or to withdraw " the scandalous attack " made hy him on the Grand Begistrar . The duty

of conducting the motion fell therefore upon Bro . Binekes , and a sorry case he made of it . His seconder had not one syllable to advance in favour of it , and the support of Bro . the Bcv . G . B . Portal and Bro . Stebbings was weak and inconclusive . Bro , Savage ' s speech and Bro . S . Barton Wilson ' s letter completed the
