A SPECIAL GIUKD LODGE has been appointed by thc M . W . Grand Master , for tho 23 rd instant , in order to complete tho business which was left unfinished on Wednesday list . THE Annual Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire is convened for the 17 th instant , to be held at Freemasons' Hall , Watford , at half-past three o ' clock , p . m . Amongst the other business , wo find the following : — ' ' To take into consideration

tho following proposition , viz ., ' That £ 10 10 s . be subscribed , out of the funds of the Provincial Grand Lodge to tho Freemasons' Boys School , and £ 10 10 s . to the Girls School ;'" So far so good ; but if the f uuds will permit , wo trust tho Ptoyal Benevolent Institution for Aged Masons and their Widows will not bo forsrottou .

THE Provincial Grand Lodge for Derbyshire will bo hold on the lGfch instant ; 2 > reviously to which the new Lodge , Beanreper , iS o . 1089 , will bo consecrated , and the Marquis of Hartingtou , M . P ., Prov . Grand Master , installed as the first Master . THE Wellington Lodge , No . 1086 , is to bo consecrated at Deal , ou the 18 tU inst ,,

thc Pi-ov . Grand Master , Bro . Purtrai Cooper , officiating . THE M . W . Grand Master has fixed the last Wednesday in January , 1 SG 0 , for the next festival of the Eoyal Benevolent Institution for Aged Masons and their Widows . Bno . EUSHA D . COOKE , a pupil of Bro , Hob Morris , Grand Master of Ken .

tucky ( who is so well known by his Masonic writings ) , has just arrived in England , with , a view of collecting as much Masonic information as possible throughout tho united kingdom , and obtaining subscribers to Bro . Morris ' s new work , the History of Freemasonry in Kentucky . Bro . Morris , in introducing Bro , Cooke to us , says : — " Bro . Cooke is thoroughly taught from my own lips , the work and lectures of tiie Blue Degrees , word , syllable , and letter . Let the English brethren

know this , that from one end of the country to the other he may communicate as ho travels ( and always without fee or reward ) the work of Masonry , as it was brought to this continent from Preston , iu 1795 . I can but think my English brethren will bo delighted to witness and hear it , especally that they may know what will suffice to pass them as Masons when they come among us . " We arc sure Bro . Cooke will be a welcome visitor wherever ho goes , and nothing can be more interesting than to trace how far our brethren in America and ourselves agree iu the ceremonies aud customs of the Order . 3 z 2
