I give you the " Health of the Alayor of Reading , " and am glad to have tho opportunity of thanking him , as the representative of this ancient and loyal borough , for the kind and hearty reception which it has accorded to the Princess and myself to-day . The Prince was loudly cheered upon sitting down . The decorations of the hall well justified the remarks which his Royal Highness made upon the dejeuner , for they were executed with

an amount of good taste such as is rarely seen . The Royal party then rose , and soon afterwards proceeded to the railway and returned to the train . After tho departure of tho Prince , the Alayor announced that his Royal Highness handed hhu a check for 100 guineas as a contribution to tbe building fund . afterwards arrived , and having been received with the usual honours , took the chair , and , at the request of the AA ' . JI , proceeded to initiated Dr . 'Trevor Jlorris into tho mysteries ofthe first degree . The lodge haying been opened in the second degree , the retiring AV . AI , Bro . Alammatt , presented his successor , Lord Ferrars , to the Prov . G . AI . to receive the benefit of installation , which ceremony was then performed according to ancient custom , the board of Installed AIasters consisting of seventeen members .

After his lordship had been proclaimed and saluted in the three degrees , and the Prov . G . AI . had concluded tho ceremony with the usual address to the W . AI . and charge , the AA . AI . appointed and invested his officers as follows : —Bros . Garner , S . AA \ ; Faulkner , J . W . ; Rev . John Denton , P . AI , Sec ; Love , P . AI , Treas . j Blood , S . D . ; Johnson , J . D . ; Lewis , I . G . ; and Canner , Tyler . The Prov . G .. AI . announced that as it was his intention in

future to allow each year six of the lodges in the province iu rotation to nominate one of their members to him for appointment as a Provincial Grand Steward , he should be glad if the brethren of that ledge would do so , aud communicate the name ofthe brother so elected lo the Prov . G . Sec . before the meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge . On the conclu .-iou of the business the lodge was closed , aud the brethren adjourned to to the Queen ' s Head Hotel . After an elegant banquetserved

, in Bro . Love ' s well-known first-rate style , tho usual toasts were duly honoured . The noble AV . AI . proposed "The Queen aud the Craft , " and " Bro . H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the Princess of AVales , and ihe rest of ( he Royal Family , " and in doing so expressed the gratification which was universally felt among the

Craft at the accession of tbe Prince of A \ ales to their ranks , and at tbe interest which he took in the Order . The Prov . &¦ Alaster in proposing ' - 'The Right Rev . Bro . the Lord Bishop of the Dioeose , the Clergy , and Ministers of all denominations , " alluded to the satisfaction felt by the Craft in the Diocese in having at its head so learned and eloquent a divine , and , above all , so worthy a Mason , as the Bishop of Peterborough : and also to tho benefit which was mutually

conferred on tho Craft aud on themselves , when the clergy and ministers of other denominations took an active part in Alasonry , as was fortunately so largely the case iu tho province of Leicester and Rutland , there not being a single lodge which did not possess one , and in some instances , three or four , clerical brethren . The toast was appropriately responded to by the Rev . John Denton , P . Prov . G . Chap , and P . Prov . S . G . AV .

Bro . II . E . Smith , P . AI , and P . Prov . J . G . AV ., proposed "The Army , Navy , Alilitia , Yeomanry , and A ' olunteers . " This was responded to by Bro . Capt . AA ebster , who said , that during his military service in the East and elsewhere , ho knew of several instances among his brother ollicers where Alasonry had been , when in peril , of great use to them . liro . Love also responded on behalf of the Volunteers . The AA ' . AI . proposed " The AI . AA . Grand Alaster , " and ,

subsequently , "Tho R . AA . D . G . M , and the Officers of Grand Lodge . " The Rev . Bro . Denton then proposed " The Health of the RfW . Prov . G . AI , Bro . Kelly , ono of the founders of the lodge , in highly complimentary terms , aud who , he said , was always ready and willing to assist all the lodges in the province , as on that and former occasions he had assisted their lodge . The toast was most warmly received , and with musical honours . liro . Kelly , in responding , alluded to the great interest which tho late Earl Ferrers took in the establishment of the Ferrers and Ivauhoe Lodge , of which he was nominated in the warrant

as the first AV . M ., but into which office it pleased the Great Architect of the Universe that he should not live to be installed , and which office then devolved on the S . W ., Bro . E . Alammatt , whose sou lie ( liro . Kelly ) had the pleasure of installing into office last year , as he had installed his father , and as he now had the additional pleasure of installing to-day the son of the original founder , Earl Ferrers—an event on which he might congratulate both the lodge and its noble AA . Bro . Pettifor , P . Prov . S . G . W , responded to the toast of "The Provincial Grand Lodge of Leicestershire and Rutland , " proposed by Bro . Brown . Bro . E . F . Alammatt , I . P . M , in proposing " The Health of tbe AV . AI , also referred ; as the Prov . G . AI . had done , to the part taken by their respective fathers in the formation of the lodo-e , and said that , although a boy at the time , he well remembered

the frequent conferences between the Earl Ferrers and his ( Bro . Alammatt ' s ) late father , on the subject . He wished the AA -JI . a successful rule over the lodge . The youthful Earl expressed the great pride and pleasure ho felt in being placed in the chair of the lodge bearing the name of his late father , and in having the honour of being installed by the Vrov . G . AI , who had assisted his father iu the formation

of it . Having expressed the great interest he felt in the Order , the W . AI . concluded by thanking the brethren for their cordial reception of the toast , and their support on the occasion . "Tho Health of the Alsitiug Brethren , " proposed by Bro . Love , P . M ., was acknowledged by the Rev . Bro . Alundy , of'Lichiield , and by Bro . Upton , P .
