The Mother's Death-Bed.

'Twas ho wo loft on that night of gloom , Who stood now by his mother's tomb . Years thoy had flown , but he had won Tho meed that springs from doeds well dono . Many souls he hacl gathered to tho Master ' s fold , Had strengthened tho slavo when bought and sold , Prayed him to look to that powerful Haud ,

Who in tinio would lighten his galling band ; He had preached in tho desert ' s far-off wild , Turning the savage to a being mild ; Through tho mighty truths of heavenly lovo He taught them to know their God above : And now ho had como again at last To revisit tho scenes of tho lonely past . Ho thought , as ho knelt in that still placo ,

Her prayers had been heard at tho throno of grace . Ho had kept his promise well and true , Hacl over hold eternal truth in view ; His heart was chastened with grateful lovo—Ho folt ho would join her in realms above . In that groat hour his heart was all joy , Ho know no fear from pain or alloy ; Calmly ho turned to his peaceful homo , Happier than tho dweller in a stately dome .
