The wines were of first-rate character , and Colonel Bowyer ' s usual contribution of champagne , ad libitum , gave a crowning finish to one of the best Masonic gatherings that has ever been held in Oxford . During the evening some excellent and eloquent addresses were delivered , and the proceedings throughout were of a most agreeable character .
