solemn prayor . The regular meeting was held on Tuesday , the 19 th inst . The chair of K . S . was occupied by Bro . Bullock , P . M ., in the unavoidable absence of the W . M ., Bro . G . Lord . The brethren mustered well , as usual , and Bro . Kean wits raised to the third degree by Bro . Bullock , in his usually impressive and correct style of working . A proposition was made for purchasing six Masonic works , to form the nucleus of a lodge library , which was carried unanimously . Bro . Bullock read a letter from Bro .

J . P . Piatt , Hon . Sec . Cheshire Masonic Institution , asking for support from the lodge , and Bro . Bullock suggested that the lodge was now so firmly established that they might pass the resolution suggested by the Prov . G . Lodge , viz ., to give five shillings from each initiation fee , and two shillings from each joining fee , to the funds of this institution . Bros . Gibson and Eeade proposed and seconded this proposition , and it was

carried unanimously . Bro . Bullock said it was his intention , if the "W . M ., Bro . Lord , had been present , to offer him and Mrs . Lord their sincere congratulations and good wishes on their recent marriage . Bro . Bullock then proposed , and Bro . Eardly , S . W ., seconded , that the Secretary write a letter to Mr . and Mrs . Lord , conveying their congratulations and sincere wishes for their temporal and spiritual happiness . This brought the labours of the evening to an end , and the lodge was closed in conformitv with the landmarks of the Order .

ESSEX . COLCHESTER . — United Lodge ( No . 697- )—At the monthly meeting of this lodge , held at the George Hotel , on Wednesday evening , Bro . Captain Sheringhaui , 16 th Regt ., was elected W . M . for the ensuing year ; and arrangements were entered into for his installation , and the annual banquet , in the course of the ensuing month . The present W . M ., Bro . Carnegie , was re-elected Treasurer of the lodge .

LANCASHIRE ( WEST ) . GARSTON . —Lodge of Harmony ( No . 220 ) . —This lodge held its regular meeting on the 27 th ult ., being the first time « mce the day was changed from the first Monday in the month . Present—Bros . Leedham , W . M . ; Thomas Gardiner , P . M . ; James Hamer , Prov . G . Treas ., and Dir . of Cers . for the Lodge ; Baker and Cook , Wardens ; Roylance , Treas . ; E .

Cook , I . G .. and a numerous attendance of members . Contrary to custom , there was only one visitor , Bro . Lewin , P . M . and P . Z . 477 . The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , Messrs . Goold and Taylor were balloted for and initiated by the W . M ., and declared themselves subscribing members- Bros . Warhurst , Piatt , and Clegg , being desirous of taking the second degree , underwent the usual examination , which proved very satisfactory . The lodge was then opened

upwards , and they were severally passed to the degree of a F . C . in Bro , Leedham ' s usual neat and careful style . In the degrees Bro . Baker gave the working tools for the second degree , and Ero . James Cook for the first , as well as the charge . The lodge having been closed down , the following gentlemen

were proposed for initiation , namely , Mr . James Glover , of Bootle , and Mr . Daniel Lowry , Cleveland-square , who is is well known throughout the country as the unrivalled comic singer . No further business appearing , the lodge was duly closed , and the brethren adjourned to the refreshment-table , where the usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured . The "Health of Bro . Hamer , Prov . G . Treas ., " was then given , and he was humorously congratulated on his " promotion" to the

office of Dir . of Cers . for the Garston Lodge by Bro . Leedham , the W . M ., who took that opportunity of investing him , and instructing him in the duties of his new office , to the great amusement of the brethren . Bro . Hamer pleasantly thanked the W . M . for the honour , as well as the lecture with which it was accompanied , but he really did feel it an honour , and was taken by surprise when he found that a jewel had bean expressl

y procured for the occasion—to which he trusted to do honour . After a very pleasant and truly fraternal meeting , enlivened by the excellent singing of Bros . Blackshaw , Baker , Wihner , and other brethren , the proceedings were brought to a close with ¦ ' Happy to meet , " & c .

YORKSHIRE ( NORTH AND EAST ) . BEVERLEY . — Constitutional Lodge ( No . 291 ) . —The usual monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday evening , the 7 th inst ., at the Assembly Rooms . A large gathering of the members of the Humbcr Lodge , No . 57 , Hull , Vere present as

visitors , besides members of other lodges . The lodge was . opened in due form and with solemn prayers . The minutes of the last lodge was read and confirmed . Mr . He was assisted by his officers very efficiently , the whole of the proceedings evidently giving great pleasure and satisfaction to the visiting brethren . Hearty good wishes having been given and recorded , the lodge was closed in due form and with solemn prayers .

The brethren and visitors then adjourned to the banquet hall , where the usual lodge refreshments were substantially provided . The remainder of the evening was spent in the heartiest manner possible , harmony and good-feeling prevailing in a truly Masonic manner . The usual toasts , Masonic and loyal , were given ; the newly-initiated feelingly and appropriately responded , proving that he felt the importance and solemnity of the ceremony . The W . M . then gave " The Visiting Brethren , " and said he . as Master of the Constitutional , and on behalf of that

lodge , must assure them that they were glad to receive so many visiting brethren , especially from the Hivmber Lodge at Hull . They were always glad to see visiting brethren , but when they honoured them as they had done that night by coining in such numbers , he was proud to see them . They were heartily welcome . He felt that such visits were calculated to do the greatest good by bringing together , in close communion , brethren of neighbouring lodgesHe trusted such gatherings would be

. more frequent . He was ' glad to welcome the other visitors—one from a neighbouring county , another from the New World . He called upon the W . M . of the Humber Lodge to respond , which he did in suitable and appropriate terms . It gave him ( Bro . Keywovth ) the greatest pleasure to visit them accompanied by so many of the officers and brethren of his lodge . He thanked them for the hearty and cordial reception they had received

, and also for their generous hospitality . He was much pleased with the able manner of working he had witnessed that night , and he trusted that such a " revival" gathering as they had experienced would be attended with beneficial results to them all . Tlio best interests of Freemasonry would he advanced by frequent visits like the present . He was glad to say that Masonry was progressing in Hull ; and in conclusion he

wished " Prosperity , perpetuity , and unanimity to the Constitutional Lodge . " The other visitors expressed themselves delighted with the reception accorded to them . During the evening several excellent Masonic and other songs were given in an able and efficient manner , and , lastly , the parting toast , " Happy have we met , happy have we been , happy may we part . " The Hull brethren then returned in an omnibus specially engaged for the occasion , having enjoyed a truly Masonic treat , which they unanimously resolved should be repeated at the earliest opportunitv .

The reporter , not being a member of it , can speak in terms of unqualified praise of the proceedings , not only in reference to the clearness and impressiveness of the manner in which the ceremonies were administered by all the officersfrom
