ADOPTIOX AltOXG THE 1 EOPSES . Mapley , in his " Lexicon of Freemasonry , " writes : "In 1776 the Mopses became an androgynous order , and admitted females to all the offices . " I have a work , published at Amsterdam in 1745 , entitled " Le Secret de la Societe des Mopses . . .

THE COilPASS AXD SQTJAEE . In answer to " V . B ., " I have seen some females ' tombs , surmounted by the compass and square , in the old churchyards in the south of Scotland . I think there is one in Melrose- Abbey yard . A sandglass is often introduced with them . It was common "to put

the implements of the father ' s or husband ' s trade on the daughter ' s or wife's tombstone . Thus a crowned hammer is seen on the tomb of a connection of a member of the Hammerman ' s Company in Holyrood Chapel , where at the top of the stone is the dace 1592 , and immediately below the hammer surmounted

by a crown , and having the letters B . H . on either side . Beneath , in the centre of the slab , is a shield charged with a ship and three cinquefoils in chief . At the bottom are the skull , hone , and " momento mori . " Round the border is "Heir lyis ane honest woman calet Marget Baxter spous to Bartel Hamelton Dakmaker Burges of ye Canongate . — AXTHOXX OXEAE HATE .

JIASOXIC EPITAPH . Among some jottings taken many years ago , I find part of an epitaph , which runs as follows : — The Cirele ' s Bound , Is Virtue ' s Bound . The Perfect Square , Tells God is

there-The Plummet ' s Full , ' 8 Heaven's Grace for AIL Employ good tools , By Mason ' s Rules . Eschew all Evil , Shame the Devil . There are- drawings of the circlesquarenui

, , plummet placed opposite the names , at the end of the lines . Where is this whole epitaph to be found ? I think I copied it from some Masonic work . —AXXSOXT OXEAL HATE .

WAS SIAESHAE NET A EEEEHA 302 T ? In the Concordat entered into between the Grand Orient , on the one part , and the Grand Lodge Ofeneral of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite , both of France , in 1 S 05 , I find the names of Kellerman , Murat , Massena , Angerean , Perignon , Lefebvre ,

Serruvier , Brune , Mortier , & c , Marshals of France , Macdonald , Sebastiani , and other high military officers , as well as Fouche , the Minister of Police , Balzac , & c , among the principal officers of the league . I am aware that Soult was a Freemason , and have a dim recollection that Xey was one also . Can any brother enlighten me upon the point , and inform me in what lodge the brave marshal was initiated . —Axinoxx O XEAT , H ATE .
