The presentation ofthe portrait was a most gratifying acknowledgment of long-continued friendship between himself and tbe members ofthe lodge , and he should ahvays value this additional proof of their esteem , and feci that , if possible , it cemented brotherly love more firmly than ever . A variety of other toasts were proposed , and the evening was spent in an extremely pleasant manner , the singing and recitation of several brethren adding greatly to the enjoyment of the party .

At two o ' clock in the afternoon fbo brethren loft tho lodgo in procession , and proceeded to attend divine service at St . Peter ' s Church . Tho services wero read by tho Rov . S . Titlow and tho Rov . — Ashley , and the sermon was preached by tho Rev . C . Howes , Prov . G . Chap ., from Malachi ii . 10 , " Havo wo not all ono Father , hath not ono God created us ? " A collection amounting to £ ' . ) Is— £ C , 10 s . of which was contributed by tho Craftwas made on behalf of the Dispensary and tho Sick Poor

Society . On returning to tho Freemasons' Hall , a veto of thanks was accorded to tho rector of St . Peter ' s for having granted tho use of tho church , and the lodgo was then closed . answer , but ho could assure them it was with tho utmost sinceritv and earnestness that ho acknowled ged the cordiality with which his minio and his services had toon received . somo worthy ones who wero lost to their society , but the remainder continued to look towards them with friendliness and attachment . Ho wished , as . Bro . Marsham had said , to bo zealous , and earnest in Masonry , and tho reception which ho had met from tho brethren that evening was an assurance that during tho . short time ho had hold oflic-o ho had not shown moro than tho common failings of humanity . It bad boon bis pleasure in the course of tho year to visit ono of tho lodges in tho province ( Lodgo Perseverance ) in order to seo tho working of it , and to learn how

thoancicnt landmarks of tho Order wore maintained ; and ho wasgratified to find that his visit gave him tho most unmitigated satisfaction . Tho members of tho lodge wore increasing innumbers , and all wero full of zeal in the good work which thoy had undertaken . Ho regretted that thoso to whom Providence bad granted wealth did not moro largely join tho ranks of Masonry in this province . Ho regretted that in thoso dayswhen

During the past year there had boon a very largo expenditure in this respect , so that thoy could not oxpoct noxt year to bo in so good a condition , unless tho proposition which had boon niado . of holding quarterly meetings would havo tho effect of increasing , tho receipts . That , however , was only tho dark side of tho question . In alluding to tho bright side , ho remark od that there had not only been largo additions made to tho Masonic body

throughout tho province , but very important changes had boon made , ono of which was tho appointment of tho Hon . F . Walpole to tho position of Deputy Provincial Grand Master . Ho was sure that their excellent Prov . G . M ., whoso grout ago prevented him from undertaking active duties , could not havo made a selection which would havo been moro acceptable to tho province at large .. In conclusion , Bro . Barwell made an appeal to tho brethren on

behalf of tho Jenny Lind Hospital , which , at tho present time , is greatly in need of funds . Bro . Morgan , Prov . G . Soc ., also returned thanks , and , speakingof tho progress which Masonry had made during late years , he referred to tho time when Bro . Cabboll took tho office of Grand Master of tho Province—when it was difficult to get seven Masons together to open a lodgo . In contradistinction with tho state of things which then existedho showed that there wero now twelve

, lodges , including five Norwich lodges , in active work in tho province , four—Sincerity , Cabbell , Sondes , aud Joppa—having been consecrated during tho past fow years , whilst it was intended in the course of a very fow weeks to consecrate a lodgo at Wymondham . Tho Prov . G . Soc . also showed that groat progress had boon niado in tho higher orders of Masonry , and altogether ho congratulated tho province upon tho jiosition and prospects of
