Peter's Lodge , " which ivas suitably acknowledged by Bro . J . H . Hair , AV . M . Bro . B . J . Thompson , P . M . 481 , proposed "The Health of the AA ' . M ., Officers , and Brethren of the Lodge of Industry , " to wliich Bro . Hugill , the AV . M ., responded . The evening was enlivened by the songs of Bros . B . J . Thompson , Stokoe , Quickfall , and AVhitworth . After the Tyler's toast the brethren separated , ivith many expressions of the mutual good-will

existing between the members of these two lodges , and fche visit was promised to be returned by the brethren of Lodge 48 afc an early date . SUNDERLAND . — St . John's Zodge ( No . 80 ) . — The annual festival of this lodge was held on AVednesday , the 3 rd . inst ., at Bro . George Shiel ' s , Queen's Hotel , Fawcett-street , Sunderland . A most sumptuous banquet was prepared ; the viands rare , and of choice selectionserved up in a style for wliich Bro . Shiel has

, become deservedly famous . Upwards of sixty brethren sat down . The W . M ., Bro . George Blacker Morgan , occupied the chair . The dais presented an imposing appearance , from the many P . M . ' s and other distinguished visitors who supported the AV . M ., among whom Avas the mayor of the borough , Bro . E . T . Gourley , Avho , however , it was fco be regretted , owing to pressing business , had to leave at an early stage of the evening's proceedings .

Justice having been done to the repast prepared , the " Feast of Reason" followed . Commencing , as usual , with the loyal and Masonic toasts , rendered in such a manner as to inspire the brethren Avifch feelings of loyalty to the Queen and fealty to the Grand Officers of the Craft , the AV . M ., in an eloquent and graceful speech , proposed the health of " His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of the French , the grand Protector of Freemasonry in his Empire , " which was received in a most enthusiastic

manner , and was responded to in a suitable and appropriate speech , in Avhich were reciprocated the kind sentiments of the AV . M ., by Bro . Neboyet , vice-consul for France afc the port of Sunderland . The merits of Masonry and its benevolent institutions were propounded in a truly Masonic spirit . The harmony which enlivened the evening ' s proceedings Avas most ably maintained , and to which Bro . Robert Ferry , the celebrated vocalist , Avas an able contributor . It will be almost superfluous to add that a most satisfactory and pleasant evening was spent .
