Hutton has gained a reputation as a writer , for he is the author of the " History of Derby , " his birth-place , and of Birmingham , his adopted town ; also of other works of merit . After a life well spent he died at the age of ninety , on September 20 th , 1812 . It may be said that this man succeeded because he was a genius ; so he was
in his way , but as a youngster he gave little sign of the good that was in him . He has done nothing that cannot be repeated ; and it is from this fact we should take encouragement , feeling fully assured that with the development of an equal amount of prudence , economy and perseverance there will be commensurate success .
