brethren , warned them against unseemly haste in getting members for their lodge ; and strongly urged them to carefully consider the character of every candidate , so that they might not be in the unpleasant position of having among them at some future time a brother who should prove himself unworihv of the ballot . The

C ., in the course of a few well chosen sentences , referred the brethren to the importance oil thoroughly studying and making themselves masters of the ritual , and also of reflecting upon the symbols of masonry with care—instancing

Jacob ' s ladder and the clouded canopy of the lodge—and alluding to the suggestions of rest , hope , strength and consolation they convey to all who rightly comprehend their nuauing .
