The widow of the late Secretary of Lodge 414 was
recommended as an applicant to tho Board of Benevolence for relief . A petition from a brother , one of the founders of the Lodge , was also recommended . All bnsiness being ended , Lodge waa closed according to ancient form , and the brethren retired for refreshment to the Great Western Hotel , where an excellent snpper was provided by Bro . petitions , bnt a letter was read from the United Telephone Company which stated they had received information thafc an instrument which was an infringement of their patent rights was in use afc the Institution , and asking permission for their engineer to be allowed to examine it , with a view to ascertain whether their information was correct . This permission was granted .
The M . W . the Grand Master has been graciously pleased to grant a warrant for the Abbey Lodge , Westminster , which will be numbered 2030 on the roll nf Grand Lodge England . Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Gierke , Grand Secretary , has kindly consented to perform the ceremony of
consecration on Monday , 10 th instant , at 4 p . m ., at the Town Hall , Westminster . On this occasion he will be assisted by Sir Albert Woods , the Rev . R . J . Simpson and other eminent

J . W ., W . Pile W . M . 1892 Secretary , and a goodly number of members of the mother Lodge and Visitors . After Lodge had been opened and the minutes of last meeting confirmed , the W . M . called on Bro . Morgan to read his paper , and the request was forthwith complied with .
Bro . Pile then announced that their worthy Preceptor Bro . Sawyer had prepared a short paper , and though their time was somewhat limited , he felt assured the brethren would be pleased to hear it . A short but highly interesting paper was tben read by Bro . Sawyer on the Antiquity
of Freemasonry ; it evinced careful research , and we doubt not bufc that the writer will be called on to repeat his reading at other of our assemblies . A cordial vote of thanks was passed to Bros . Morgan and Sawyer for tbe instructive
papers they had read . This compliment having been suitably acknowledged , an adjournment took place to the King ' s Arms Hotel , where a well-served repast was provided , and an" hour or so afterwards spent in a convivial and harmonious manner .
