Norria as the Worohipfnl Master of this popular Lodge was held on Thursday , the 21 st ultimo , at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-streefc . There was very little bnsiness set down on the agenda paper , and the unavoidable absence of the candidate for initiation rendered the work still lighter . However , several matters were brought nnder . consideration , and the services of two brethren were placed at the

disposal of tho respective Spcretaries of the Scholastic Institutions , and doubtless both will render a good account of their Stewardship at the May and June Festivals . A capital banquet was supplied , and at its conclusion Bro . Norris , who makes an excellent President , introduced the usual toasts . In speaking of the M . W . the Grand Master the W . In speaking of the Masonic Chartitiea Brother Norris said that the amounts subscribed were not commensurate with what might be expected from our numerical strength . Ont of the 2000 Lodges it has been said that not

more than 400 contributed last year ; he expressed a wish that the contributions of the Universal Lodge might be at least doubled . The Charities were worthy the support of the Craft , and he trnsted the contribntions . of the brethren to the Charity Box would be of a liberal character . After a song by Bro . Dunkley , the Charity Box was passed round , and £ 3 17 s 6 d collected . In the absence ,

through illness , of the I . P . M . Bro . Layton P . M . proposed tho health of the W . M . After explaining the cause of the enforced absence of Bro . Fryer , whose zeal and energy had been so well exercised dnring the past year , Bro . Layton said , though it was matter of regret in this particular , to him individually it was a pleasure to be called on to propose this toast . Bro . Norris was a capable Mason , and

though they had not been able to find him any ceremonial work to conduct that night , there was little doubt but there would be some on the next occasion . In response , Bro . Norris expressed his thanks to Bro . Layton . He felt this toast had been proposed in far too flattering terms . However , he was assured that he had ascended to the exalted position of King Solomon ' s chair with the hearty and

cordial approval of the members of the Universal Lodge . He regretted there had been no work to do thafc evening , and trusted this might nofc be the case at their future meetings . For fche toast of the Pasfc Masters Bros . Reed and Wood responded ; while Bros . Hayden , Alford , and Johnson acknowledged the compliment paid the Visitors .
