THE installation meeting of this Lodgo was held ou Wednesday evening , 21 st April , at the Cheshiro Cheese Tavern , Crutched Friars . Bro . J . Shepherd W . M . presided , and was supported b y Bros . II . R . Hallam S . W ., Dnrell J . W ., the assistant Officers , Foxall , Musto , Hogg , and Calverley P . M . ' s , and the following Visitors : —H . Thompson P . M . 177 and 1158 , T . J . Barnes , Maidwell , H . Hallam jnn ., Claton , Evans , Ac . Tho Lodge having been opened and the minutes read
and confirmed , tho first business was to raise Bro . Larsen to the third degree , and following that Bro . II . Chain , was advanced to the degreo of F . C . Bro . H . R . Hallam the W . M . elect was then presented to receive from his predecessor tho benefit of installation . A Board of Installed Masters was formed , and Bro . H . R . Hallam was duly installed as W . M . of the Lodge , and he appointed his Officers as
follow : —J . Shepherd I . P . M ., Dnrell S . W ., Peterkin J . W ., Musto P . M . Treasurer , Hogg P . M . Secretary , Godolphin S . D ., Spencer J . D ., Friedeberg W . S ., Steedman P . M . Tyler . Bro . Shepherd then delivered the customary addresses , and at the conclusion was presented by the new W . M . with a Past Master ' s jewel , the gift of tho brethren , in recognition of his services as W . M . during the past year , for which he briefly
but appropriately expressed his thanks . The Lodge was then closed and the brethren adjourned to the banquetting room , where a very excellent repast was provided , the now W . M . presiding , supported by his Past Masters and Visitors . At the conclusion of the banquet the W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts , which wero all duly responded to , the toast of the Queen being followed by the National
Anthem , the vocalists being Bros . Hallam jun ., Claton , and Evans , Bro . Shepherd I . P . M . rose and said that the brethren were no doubt aware for what purpose he had obtained possession of the gavel , it was to propose the health of Bro . Hallam the W . M . whom he had had the pleasure of installing in the chair . Ho knew what the W . M . could do , and he felt sure that he would perform his duties
to their entire satisfaction . It was therefore with great pleasure that he proposed his health . The toast was enthusiastically responded to , followed by a song by Bro . Bellamy jun ., " The Anchor ' s Weighed . " The W . M . briefly returned thanks for the very kind manner iu whioh his health had been drunk ; he would endeavour to deserve the honour that had been conferred upon him . The W . M . next proposed
" The health of the Immediate Past Master and Installing Master , Bro . Shepherd , " which was cordially drunk , succeeded by a glee by the professional singers . Bro . Shepherd thanked the W . M . for the kind manner in which he had proposed his health , and the brethren for the very hearty manner they had responded to it . If he had done anything to merit their satisfaction he felt highly complimented . The
jewel which they had presented to him that evening he was very proud of , and the recollection of it wonld ever live in his memory , as it would remind him of the time when the brethren elected him as W . M . of their Lodge , and their kndness that night proved to him thafc they appreciated what he had tried to do . Ho had' received a great deal of assistance from the brethren of tho Lodge , and had it not
been for the information he obtained from Bro . Musto he should never have arrived at the proud position of W . Master . He always found Bro . Musto willing , no matter at what time of day any brother might go to him , to lay down his pen and give him instruction . In conclusion he begged to thank them all for the very kind manner in which they had received the toast of his health . Tho W . M . said the
nexfc toasfc was " Tho Past Masters of the Lodge , " and with ifc he would couple the name of Bro . Musto P . M . and Treasurer . Bro . Musto returned thanks for having his name associated with the toast of the Past Masters of the Lodge ; ho also thanked tho brethren for the warm -manner in which they had responded to it . As a P . M . of the Lodge he had endeavoured to do his duty , and he would continue to do so to the Craft in general and particularly to the brethren of their
Lodge . Bro . Hogg P . M . also returned tban & s . The W . M . next gave " The Visitors , " coupling with the toast the namo of Bro . H . Thompson , who congratulated Bro . Hallam on having obtained the high position of W . M ., and felt assured from the diligence he had shown in attending Lodges of Instruction he would discharge his duties to their entire satisfaction . Bro . Barnes and several other Visitors also returned thanks . The Tyler ' s toast was then given , and tho proceedings wero brought to a close .

rpHE annual festival in connection with this Lodge was held in the - * - Masonic Hall , Wellington-street , Stockton , on Thursday , 22 nd ult ., when Bro . James Hall ( Borough Surveyor ) was installed as Worshi pful Master of the Lodge for the year 1880-81 . There was a large attendance of members and visiting brethren . Bro . W . J . Watson P . M . and Treasurer performed tho ceremony of installation ,
after which the Worshipful Master appointed and invested the following brethren as Officers : —George E . Pybns S . W ., John M . Pickering J . W ., W . J . Watson P . M . Treas ., John Broome Sec , George E . Smirk S . D ., John Reed J . D ., A . Crosby I . G ., J . Trenholm Tyler . The I . P . M . ( Bro . J . J ' . Banning ) was , at tho close of the Lodge , presented with a
beautifull y engrossed address of thanks for his services during his year of office . Bro . Banning suitably responded . At the close of tho Lodge , the assembled brethren , to the number of upwards of sixty , adjourned to the banquetting hall , and there partook of an excellent dinner . Tbe W . Settle , R . Wilson Bolsover , and A . Hey , P . M . ' s . After dinner , the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wero hononred . Bro . Dodds proposed the health of tho new W . M . and in doing so said he had seen a great deal of Bro . Hall since ho first camo into the locality . His promotion had been rapid ; from South Stockton ho had crossed to Stockton aud taken a moro important public position , aud probably his undoubted
talents and ability wonld enable him to tako another and higher flight before many years passed over . When thafc time camo thoy would part with thoir worthy brother with regret . IIo had further to congratulate Bro . Hall on the high and important position to which he had been elevated that day , and he trusted that tho year wonld bo marked by great prosperity to the Lodgo over which ho had tho honour to preside . Tho toast was warmly received . Tho W . M .
tendered his thanks for the honour done him , and assured tho brethren that it was his desiro to fully carry out the duties of his high office . Bro . Hunton , in a kindly address , proposed tho health of tho I . P . M . and Bro . Banning thanked tho brethren for tho kindness which had always been shown to him . BURDETT COUTTS LODGE OF INSTRUCTION ,
No . 1278 . fTIHE Annual Banquet of this Lodge was held on the 22 nd ult ., at -A- Bro . Kent ' s , Moorgate-sfcation Restaurant , Moorgate-street Station , E . C . Bro . Stnrtevant J . W . mother Lodgo presided in . a most genial manner ( in the unavoidable absence of Bro . A . Lazarus W . M . 1278 ) , and was well supported by Bros . Christian as S . W ., and T . Wooding as J . W ., and company numbering nearly 30 . Ample justice
was done to an excellent repast , which gave much satisfaction to all , and was served under Bro . Kent ' s personal superintendence . Among the toasts honoured were those of the Queen and the Craft , His Royal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers present and past . In giving the next toast Bro . Sturtevant said thafc in wishing the Burdett Coutts Lodgo of
Instruction success , they must all be struck with the painstaking manner in which its Preceptor , Bro . Hogg , worked for its advancement . It was owing to [ that brother ' s indefatigable exertions that the Lodge could show snch a muster as was present , and every credit was duo to him . The toast was heartily received , and Bro . Hogg P . M . returned thanks , disclaiming that any praise was due to him ; he had , he
considered , only performed a duty , and that a pleasant one ; if ho felt the brethren were satisfied with bis endeavours ho was amply rewarded . A number of other toasts was given , including the health of the W . M . Bro . Sturtevant , who gracefully acknowledged the compliment , as also did Bro . Kent in reply to the toast of tho Host . A capital list of songs was rendered , and tho evening proved all too
short when it was time to break np . The ordinary work of Lodges of Instruction is recognised as the means whereby brethren obtain a knowledge of tho duties tho Craft requires of thorn , bat certainly tho Lodgo of Instruction Banquet table furnishes tho opportunity for brethren who are approaching tho chairs in tho mother Lodge to
acquire that practice necessary to acquit themselves with credit whilst presiding over the brethren at refreshment Great praise ia due to Bro . Sturtevant therefore for taking the chair at a moment ' s notice , and discharging his duties so admirably , giving promise of good things for the Burdett Coutts Lodge when he fills the W . M . ' s chair .

No . 22 . THE annual banquet of this Lodgo of Instruction ( held under the warrant of the Neptune , No . 22 ) will take place at Bro . McDiarmid ' s , the Cambria Tavern , Cambria-road , near Loughborough Junction , on Friday , the 7 th May , at 7 . 30 p . m . Bro . A . Lamarque P . M . and Preceptor will take the chair , and Bro . H . Baldwin Sec .
will occupy the vice-chair . Ifc is anticipated there will be a goodly muster of brethren on this occasion , as this Lodge of Instruction has been making rapid progress of late , the average attendances being nearly double those of last Session . Bro . G . S . Graham and other

1326 , Hntchings S . W . 147 J . W 1531 , Morgan 169 ancl 1155 , Penney 147 , Tuck 834 and 1531 , and Vohmann W . M . 871 . The Lodge was opened at 7 p . m ., Bro . Batchelor occupying the position of W . M ., supported by Bros . Hntchings as S . W ., Gloster as J . W ., Milbourn D . C . 13 as S . D ., Coen 169 as J . D ., Penney as I . G ., Griffin P . M . 933
