We dp not sanction anyone attending Lodge meetings as our representative without a specific invitation .

ROYAL ARCH . Sympathy Chapter , No . 483 . A CONVOCATION was held on Tuesday , 26 th ult ., at the Clarendon Hotel , Gravesend , when Comp . R . J . Beamish M . E . Z . presided , and opened the Chapter in due form . He was assisted by Comps . H .

Furss P . Z . as H ., Orlton Cooper + . Z . as J ., E . Ingman Scibe E ., Spencer Bowen Scribe N ., J . P . White P . Z . Treasurer , J . A . Gillett P . S ., C . P . Bowen 1 st Assistant , A . J . Walklin D . C ., E . C . Paine , John Solomon , A- E . Lockhart , J . A . Axcell , Joseph Davis , & c .

After the minutes of the previous convocation had been read and confirmed , Bro . John Alfred Merchant , who was balloted for at the last meeting , was introduced . and regularly exalted to this supreme degree . The ceremony was admirably rendered by Comp . Beamish and his Officers , particularly Comp . Gillett , whose work was greatly appreciated .

The members then proceeded to elect their Principals and Officers for the ensuing year , with the following result : William Hawker Z ., Spencer Bowen H ., T . T . Hogg J ., Orlton Cooper Scribe

E ., J . A .. Gillett Scribe N ., J . P . White Treasurer , C . P . Bowen P . S ., T . A . Mummery 1 st Assistant , George Masters 2 nd Assistant , R . J . Beamish D . C ., Robert Vivian A . D . C ., Robert Matthews Org ., John Solomon and J . A . Axcell Stewards , and George Martin Janitor . Comps . Lockhart , Davis and Payne were appointed members of the Audit Committee . The sum of five guineas was voted to the M . E . Z ., for his List

as Steward . at the next Festival of the Girls School , at which the Grand Superintendent of Kent will preside , and Comp . Beamish promised that whatever votes he received should be placed to the credit of the Chapter .

Upon the proposition of Comp . Beamish , seconded by Comp . Orlton Cooper , a record of the Chapter's grief at the lamented death of Queen Victoria was ordered to be inserted in the minutes . The Treasurer reported that the funds were in a satisfactory condition , and there were no liabilities .

There being no further business , the Chapter was closed , and the Companions adjourned to the dining room , where a pleasant repast was enjoyed .

West Smith / Held Chapter , No . 1623 . INSTALLATION OF COMP . A . ARROWSMITH , AND PRESENTATION TO COMP . R . F . BRICKDALE

THE annual installation meeting was held at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet Street , on Saturday , and proved a brilliant success . The Companions assembled soon after 4 o'clock , those present including Comps . W . J . Barnes P . G . Swd . Br . Essex M . E . Z ., A . Arrowsmith M . E . Z .-elect H ., H . Dehane i ' . P . G . P . S . Essex P . Z . acting J ., R .

S . Cobden Treasurer , R . F . Brickdale P . P . G . P . S . Herts Scribe E ., J . Williams S . N ., W . McGavin Reid Prin . Soj .., Geo . R . Scott 1 st Assist . Soj ., Charles J . Barnes M . E . Z ., who proceeded to instal his successor Comp . A . Arrowsmith P . M .

733-Comp . H . Dehane installed Comp . G . R . Scott as J . It is needless to say the impressive ceremonies were rendered in a masterly manner .

The Audit Committee reported that the finances of the Chapter were in a flourishing condition . Their report was adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes .

Comp . A . Arrowsmith M . E . Z . said he had a very pleasant duty to fulfil , and that was to present Companion W . J . Barnes with a handsome P . Z . jewel , which the M . E . Z . said was to mark the appreciation of the members of the excellent services he had rendered during his year of Office .- Comp . Barnes expressed his thanks for the really beautiful present , which he would ever regard as a mark of friendship and esteem . The jewel bore the following inscription :

Presented to COMP . W . J . BARNES M . E . Z . 1900-1901 , As a token of respect and esteem of the Companions . Amongst the communications read by the S . E . was a letter from a P . Z ., who sent in his resignation , but it was not accepted ;
