The oldest Freemason is constantly turning up , and he is each time a different person . There seems to have been some difficulty in establishing the title of the latest claimant , but still it has been done . Mr . John Armstrong , the clerk of St . James ' s Chnrch , Guernsey , who is now in his ninety-third year , wns made a Freemason in Guernsey in fche early part of the year 1815 . Somehow or otherhowever , his
, name was never registered in the Register of the Grand Lodge of England . Perhaps this arose from some confusion which existed afc that time , scarcely two years after the Union of the Ancients and Moderns which made the United Grand Lodge of England . Mr . Armstrong consequently has enjoyed the privileges of local membership for nearly seventy years , without being the possessor of fche
customary Grand Lodge certificate . But this omission has at length been rectified through the energetic action of Mr . William De Jersey , who has had a lengthened correspondence with Grand Secretary on tho subject . Clear proof of the initiation , & c , having been furnished , the certificate was granted , and was handed to Mr . Armstrong fche week before lasfc . Is there any older Freemason P—Evening News .
