Since their guest was installed as Provincial Grand Master of Essex , in 1883 , Masonry had made considerable progress .
There were at that time nineteen Lodges , aud now there are twentysix , while two others were coming to Essex next month ; this would make an increase of nine Lodges established nnder his lordship ' s rule . He was generally present at the consecration meetings , and altogether fulfilled the duties appertaining to his high office to fcho
utmost satisfaction of the county . Tho great interest evinced by his lordship in all Masonic matters would endear him to their hearts , and he ( Bro . Dixie ) was sure the toast would be cordially received . Lord Brooke in reply commenced by thanking tho Master and Brethren for their kind reception aud generous hospitality . Ho found it
almost impossible to say anything fresh on the subject of our grand Order , but his hearers knew full well to what au extent it was carried in tho province of Essex . He regretted his inability to take part in fche Masonic duties that afternoon , but from what he knew he
was sure their W . M . gave a most excellent example of the mauner in which those duties should be carried ont . With reference to the Masonic Charities , ho was very glad to hear what substantial sums wero collect'd by the Chigwell Lodgo for the Institutions . He trusted thafc if fche number of Lodges increased the members would
be ] usfc aud worthy men , who would be ; i credit to Freemasonry . He had attended several of the Lodges in the province , and ho wonld endeavour to visit them all , but ho was sure he could not meet with a heartier welcome than thafc he was now accorded , and he hoped it would not be his last visit . Bro . Thomas Humphreys responded for
the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , & c , and regretted the absence of Bro . Philbrick . They were , however , compensated for this by the presence of the Prov . G . M ., which added so greatly to tho pleasure of
the meeting . As P . O . Officers they were proud to serve under such a Master . The Prov . G . Officers had experienced groat delight at the working of the W . M ., and he could safely say that he had never attended a Lodge were the working i . ad been carried out in a more
satisfactory manner . Lord Brooke proposed the health ot the Worshipfnl Master , and said ho could see how highly Bro . Dixie was esteemed by the Brethren ; ho was sure ho well sustained the c . edit of tho Lodge , ilv was [ . leased to seo him supported by so many Grand OSIicors , and congratulnt . d the Lodge on having . such au
