Highness the Prince of Wales on the occasion of the marriage of His Royal Highness the Duke of York with Her Serene Highness the Princess Victoria Mary of Teck , offering the most hearty good wishes of the fraternity on the happy event . "

2 . " Thafc the sum of three hundred guineas be voted from the Fund of General Purposes for the relief of brethren in the district of Queensland who have suffered from the recent disastrous floods . ; u;—CAN A MASTER EER ? " To the Editor of the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . DEAR SIR AND BROTHER , —My attention has only just been drawn to an article which appeared in your issue of 19 th August headed as above ; and I hasten to reply to it . In my humble judgment the principles set forth therein are both illogical and inconclusive . You argue that if a " Master has done something unquestionably at

variance with the usages of the Craft" thafc he should act as though he were right , but " with tho full determination to remedy anything he may afterwards find requires remedying , yefc all the time acting the pare of one who cannot err . " This ia a Masonic Dogma of Infallibility with a vengeance . Surely if so unfortunate a circumstance were to arise it would be the Master ' s duty to

acknowledge his error and rectify his mistake at once . His neglect to do so would be far more fatal to his dignity and our Order , than to continue to maintain a fallacious standpoint , which he is ab the same time " determined to remedy . " Fortunately our ancient charges and regulations are so concise that such a contingency is hardly likely to occur , and to the credit of Freemasonry be ifc said any wilful departure from those rules is unknown . But on the other

hand I think all good Masons will agree with me that it would indeed be an i I-regulated Lodge wherein any member would presume to " chaff" thc W . M . in the ch > iir . No , right is right , aud no error cau ever bo rectified by pursuing a coarse so diametrically opposed to common morality . Freemasonry has been not inaptly described aa the Soienco of Morality ; but its principles will not be promoted by such Jesuitical and specious reasoning .
