late all interested in fche result of the year s work . We have no doubt a still more favourable state of things would have been experienced if we had not passed through a year of depression in mosfc departments of tiade . The annual ball , held in January 1893 , realised
the sum of £ 320 7 s 5 d , which must be considered satisfactory under the circumstances , although a serious falling off from the results of the previous year . A further alteration in our Bye-laws , which has just come into force , will enable us to elect upon the combined
fund children between the ages of eight and fourteen , instead of eight and eleven years as formerly , so that when it is found desirable they may receive precisely the same advantages as if elected on the Eoyal Masonic Institutions for Boys and Girls . The donations and
subscriptions received for fche year amount to £ 749 4 s 8 d , being £ 316 less than the amount received last y & ar . Forty-three Lodges have nofc thought ifc worth while to contribute anything towards our funds , although in many cases they do not hesitate to place their children on the foundation . The amount received for interest on
invested capital is £ 839 3 s 6 d . The number of children who have received the benefits of the institution during fche year are 212 . Of these , seventeen are on the combined fund , and receive entire maintenance , whilst nineteen children who have left school have received
grants for clothing and advancement in life . The amount expended for this puipose is £ 1580 15 s Id , in addition to £ 181 5 s , the proportionate value of purchased rights of presentation to schools in London , making a total of £ 1762 Os ld . It may be interesting to note that since
the formation of the institution , forty-four years ago , the number of children benefitted amounts to 840 , many of these being retained for a very long period , and the total amount expended £ 29 , 205 18 s 4 d , and the average number of children elected has been twenty per annum .
This number may at first sight appear small , but for many of the earlier years the demands upon our resources were very small in comparison with our present requirements . The entire cost of conducting the affairs of the institution , including printing , postages ,
law , and other charges , has amounted to £ 1770 8 s , or an average cost of £ 40 4 s 9 d per annum . It is a pleasure to feel that we have been able to deal satisfactorily wifch all eligible cases , but we feel thafc additional energy will be required to keep pace with
the increasing demands on our resources . Appreciating the difficulty the executive officers have to contend wifch , fche children being scattered throughout the
Province , the committee invite the co-operafcion of all Lodges in selecting suitable schools and supervising the expenditure for clothing for children in the various districts . —Liverpool Mercury .

NOTIFICATION . The Superior Council of the Thirty-three , acting in common with the Grand Orient of the Symbolic Order of Spain , with whioh we are united in bonds of Brotherly friendship , have recently given a proof that the Freemasonry of that illustrious kingdom participates both in the sufferings which afflict us , as well as in the
successes which natter our national honour , having with sums of money come to the assistance of those who suffered by the disaster of Casamiccola and the cholera of Naples during the past year , and having now sent to the Superior Council of Italy two diplomas destined to his Majesty the King of Italy and to his Royal Highness the Duke of Aosta , by which the Freemasons of Spain express their admiration for the act of charity performed by our Sovereign and
his august brother when they went to assist the cholera-stricken in Naples and in other infected parts of Italy . Both his Majesty King Humbert and his Boyal Highness the Duke of Aosta , who was already invested by the Grand Thirty-three when he mounted the throne of Spain , through a unanimous resolution taken by the said Superior Council on March 18 , 1885 , according to the common era , are numbered as members of the Superior Council of Spain .
The aforesaid diplomas bear the following signatures : the Sovereign Grand Commander ; Grand Master Manuel Becerra , ex-Minister d'Ottre-Hare , ex-Senator , deputy to the Cortes , Thirtythree ; Isidore Villarino del Villar , Thirty-three ; Don Juan Brovo , Thirty-three ; Grand Chancellor ; Juan Utor Fernandez , Thirtythree . We believe it opportune to communicate this to our Brethren , with the special recommendation that the information
should not go beyond our offices , that is , that it should not be communicated to the profane world , and we trust that it will be a gratification to them to see that Spanish Freemasonry is deeply conscious of the bonds of fraternity which bind it to the Brethren of Italy , and it will be moreover observed that the Freemasonry of the Scotch Rite , as well as that of the Symbolic Rite , has preferred tho medium of this Superior Council in order to manifest its feelings towards Italy and its King . The union of these continental bands in desire and emotion is indeed significant .
