against tho said sentence of suspension having also been received , the Committee recommend that Grand Chapter do not hear it until Companion Paul Smith makes due submission to the Grand Superintendent of his Province for the contempt of his authority . Tho Committee beg to report that there now stands to the credit

of Grand Chapter , in the Three per Cent . Consols , a sum of £ 3 , 200 . and in the Bank of England ( Western Branch ) a balance of £ 1 , 458 88 9 d , and thoy recommend , as uo immediate claim is likely

to be made on the funds of Grand Chapter beyond the ordinary current expenses , that the folowing grants be made to each of the Masonic Charities , and tho amounts paid to their respective Trustees : —

The Royal Masonic Institutions for Girls £ o 00 The Royal Masonic Institution for Boys £ 500 The Royal Masonio Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons and the Widows of Freemasons ... £ 500

The Committee further recommend that a sum of £ 500 be expended on the purchase of an organ to be presented by Grand Chapter to Grand Lodge—to replace that destroyed in the recent fire at Freemasons' Hall .

In consequence of the mnch lamented death of His Eoyal Highness the Duke of Albany , K . G ., Third Grand Principal , Grand Superintendent of Oxfordshire , it has been ordered that the Grand Chapter , and all subordinate Chapters , be placed in Masonic mourning for the space of three months from the 4 th of April .

The mourning to be worn by Companions individually to be as follows : —

Grand Officers present and past , and Principals and Past Principals of private Chapters—Three rosettes of blaok crape on the badges and one at the point of the chain or collar just above the jewel . Other Companions—Three black rosettes on badge .

POLISH NATIONAL CHAPTER , No . 534 . THE installation meeting took place on Thursday , 24 th April , at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street , under the presidency of Corrp . Palmer as M . E . Z . and the following Officers : — Comps . Lowtlen H ., Dr . Jackson J ., Dr . Jagielski S . N ., Oliver Bryant P . S ., Bieling First Assistant , Geflowski Second Assistant , and Banks Janitor . The Audit Report was read ; it was of a very satisfactory

nature . Bro . H . Reed P . M . Great Northern Lodge was then entrusted , ancl in dne course exalted to the Supreme Degree ; especial praise is dne to Comp . Dr . Jagielski for the manner in which he acted as P . S . All business being completed , the brethren retired to dinner . In speaking to the toast of the Queen and Royal Arch

Masonry , the M . E . Z . referred to the untimely death of the Duke of Albany P . G . J ., and requested that the toast should be drnnk in silence . Comp . Paas then proposed tbe health of Companion Palmer , and thanked him for the manner in which he had performed his duties . Comp . Palmer having replied , next proposed the toast of the evening , viz ., that of the new Companion , Bro . Reed P . M . Great

Northern Lodge , who thanked the M . E . Z . for having exalted him , ancl also for the very impressive manner in which the proceedings bad been conducted . He conld not have believed that the ceremony wonld have been so beautifnl , and he felt that a lasting impression hacl been made on his mind . The health of the various Officers having been proposed and duly honoured , the Janitor ' s toast brought to a conclusion a very pleasant evening .

The members of the North London Chapter of Improvement held their weekly meeting at the Alwyne Castle Tavern , St . Paul ' s Eoad , Canonbury , on Thursday , at 8 o ' clock , when Comps . Brasted occupied the chair of Z ., Hunter H ., Radcliffe 3 ., Sheffield S . N ., Shaw P . S . An instructive evening was the result .

Tho ceremony of installation of Principals will be rehearsed at the Jamaica Coffee House , St . Michael ' s Alley , Cornhill , on Tuesday next , 6 th May , at half past 5 o ' clock , by Comp . Maidwell Z ., Webb H ., J . S . Fraser J ., all of tho Stanmore Chapter , 1549 . On the same even ing , at half past six o ' clock , the ceremony of exaltation will he rehearsed .

An emergency meeting of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales was held on the 25 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , 8 A Red Lion-square , for the purpose of adopting addresses of condolence to Her Majesty the Qneen , to H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W .

Past G . M ., and to H . R . H . the Duchess of Albany on the death of Past Grand Master H . R . H . the late Duke of Albany . The M . W . G . M . M . M . Lord Henniker presided , and he was supported by a large number of influential members of the Order . We shall give , a more detailed account of the proceedings in our next issue .

Brethren from London who intend visiting York , ou Friday next , will doubtless take the opportunity of making calls en route , and for their guidance , as well as for that of brethren who will not proceed direct from the capital , the particulars of the trains of the three principal

southern lines serving York , which will be found in our advertising columns , will be of service . The opening of the new route , vid the Great Eastern system , has placed the brethren of the Eastern Counties in direct communica . tion with the original home of Freemasonry in England ,

while the Midland Railway will accommodate brethren desirous of travelling from the West , and the Great Northern those from the central districts . The extent , however , to which these great lines now extend places

them all three in active competition in many districts , so that not a few of the intending visitors will have an opportunity of making a selection as to the road they shall travel .

H . the Duchess of Albany were then read , approved and signed by the W . M . and P . M . 's . A ballot was taken for Bros , the Rev . H .

Wells , W . A . Simmons and C . F . Simmons , and declared clear . These brethren , being in attendance , were advanced to the honourable degree of M . M . M . by the W . M ., with full musical ceremony , Bro . Taylor , 99 , presiding at the organ . The V . W . Bro . Charles Stephens then assumed the throne and installed the V . W . R . P . Bent P . G . C . into the chair of A ., in a very impressive and perfect manner . The

W . M . appointed and invested his Officers , as follow : —Bros . Bradley I . P . M ., Homann S . W ., Glasspool J . W ., Moffatt M . O ., Butler S . O ., Creed J . O ., Rev . H . Wells Chaplain , Tench R . M ., Stransom Treasurer , Lindars Secretary , Collins S . D ., Ferguson J . D ., Margrett P . M . D . C , Ravenscroft Organist , Hickie I . G ., Vowles and Sydenham Stewards , Hemmings Tyler . The W . M . had much pleasure in performing his

first duty in the Lodge by presenting a valuable P . M . s jewel to the I . P . M . Bro . Bradley , which was acknowledged in suitable terms . Bro . Glasspool proposed that the sum of five guineas be contributed to the Mark Benevolent Fund , fche amount to be placed on the List of Bro . Pulley Prov . Grand Secretary . This was seconded and carried unanimously . Bro . Ravenscroft , Secretary , was then requested to

retire from the Lodge , ancl in his absence Bro . Stephens D . P . G . M . proposed , and Bro . Pulley Prov . G . Sec . seconded , thafc a jewel be presented to Bro . Ravenscroft , in recognition of his valuable services to the Lodge as Secretary for the past three years . This was carried by acclamation . Bro . Ravenscroft thon re-entered the Lodge and was addressed by the W . M ., who communicated to him tho result of the

last proposition . Bro . Ravenscroft expressed his sincere thanks for the unexpected honour which had been conferred upon him , and said ho should ever wear the jewel with pride , and a happy remembrance of the pleasant performance of the duties of his office . Apologies for non-attendance were then read from the M . W . G . M . M . M . Lord

Henniker , Bro . Binckes Grand Secretary , and many other brethren . Lodge being closed , tho brethren adjourned to the Great Western Hotel , where a sumptnous dinner was provided by Bro . Flanagan P . M . Afterwards tho usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly presented , and a very pleasant evening enjoyed , with the musical assistance of Bro . Taylor , and others .
