GREY FRIARS LODGE , No . 1101 . A REGULAR meeting of this spirited Lodge took place at the Masonio Hall , Reading , on Wednesday , 9 th ult ., when there were present : Officers—Bros . W . W . Ridley W . M ., Dowsett I . P . M ., Hawkes S . W ., Prickett J . W ., Stransom Treasnrer , Ivey P . M . Sec , Ravenscroft S . D ., Creed J . D ., Pulley P . M . D . C , Hickie Organist , CordreyI . G ., Vowles , Collins , and Sands Stewards ; P . M . 's Ferguson , Blackwell . Margrett , J . T . Brown ; Members—Bros . Coates , Ridley ,

Lodge having been formally opened , the minntes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed . Lodge was opened in the second degree ; Bros . E . W . Ridley and S . Biggs being candidates for raising to tbe third , satisfactorily answered the questions ; they
were entrusted and raised to the sublime degree of M . M . The first part of the ceremony was performed by the W . M ., the charge by the I . P . M ., and the explanation of the tracing board was given by Brother Blackwell . The whole of the imposing ceremony was admirably performed , and the effect considerably heightened by vocal and instrumental music , under the direction of Bro . Hickie Organist .
We cannot speak too highly of the plan of this Lodge in dividing the labour between the Master and Past Masters , an entire absence of monotony and dullness results , and we commend tbe practice for adoption in other Lodges . Lodge was resumed to the first degeee . The W . M . proposed that the report of the Permanent Committee of the 20 th March be received and passed , this waa seconded by Bro .
Margrett P . M ., and carried unanimously . A discussion then arose on the question of increased accommodation in the Lodge premises , for the Lodge of Union , No . 414 , when Brother Margrett P . M . gave notice of motion : " Thafc a gratuity be offered to the Lodge of Union as a contribution , from tbe funds of thia Lodge , towarda the expense incurred . " The W . M . read a communication from the Grand
Secretary , which orders that the Lodge be placed in mourning for three months from the 4 th of April , in consequence of the death of Prince Leopold Duke of Albany P . G . W . of England , Provincial Grand Master of Oxfordshire , K . G ., & c . The Worshipful Master also proposed that letters of condolence be sent to Her Majesty the Qneen , and Her Royal Highness the Dnchess of Albany , to be signed by the
Master and Secretary . The I . P . M . referred to the question of certificate of Bro . the Rev . Dr . Coleman , which he had received in duplicate from the Carbon LorTge , U . S . A . ; he now proposed him as a joining momber . Tbe W . M . seconded it . Another joining member was proposed and seconded . All business being ended , the Lodge was closed according to ancient form , and adjourned . j

of the Lodge . Before closing the Lodge the W . M . proposed a resolation welcoming the illustrious Visitor , Bro . Pope , Q . C , Recorder of Bolton , who remained in Bolton at tbe conclusion of the Quarter Sessiona in order to attend the meeting of the Lodge , and be present at the installation of Bro . Harwood , who is serving the office of Mayor of Bolton for a second year . Bro . Harwood referred to the
honourable position filled in the Masonio world by the learned brother , and expressed the pleasure hia timely visit had afforded the brethren . The motion waa cordially agreed to , and ordered to be in . sorted on the minntes of proceedings . Bro . Pope , in acknowledging the compliment paid him , expressed his gratification in attending a Lodge in a town whore he had been officially connected for very
many years ; where everything seemed to bo worked so well , and where all the needful arrangements had been carried out with such zeal and precision . He conld not help referring to the great courtesy and kindness extended to him by the Magistrates generally , and the Mayors of the Borough in particular , who were always ready and willing to afford him every possible assistance and anticipate every
wish . The Mayor , the W . M . of to-day , waa the youngest Magistrate on the Bench , but hia acquaintance with him had been snch aa to satisf y him that be was a true type of an Englishman ; frank , open , and straightforward ; ifc had afforded him great satisfaction to be present to welcome hia admission amongat the rulers of the Craft . The Lodge-room waa most tastefully decorated , and adorned with
many banners , the property of private members of tbe St . George ' s and other Lodges , with their respective arms and crests elegantly embroidered thereon . These were arranged under the direction of Bro . Blain , an old Mason , and a Past Master of this Lodge . Hearty good wishes were expressed by tbe visiting brethren , and tbe Lodge closed in form and with harmony , at 6 p . m . Banquet was prepared
under the able supervision of Bro . and Mrs . Priestley , whose efforts were heartily appreciated and gave the greatest satisfaction . The musical brethren mustered in force , and contributed materially to tho success of tbe meeting , wbich was the most successful gathering in Bolton for some years , and will be long remembered by those who had the privilege of being present .

After preliminaries , the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro , Williams candidate . Lodge waa then called off , and on resuming was opened in the second and third degrees , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed , Bro . Stringer personating the candidate . After resuming in the first degree , Bro . Penrose was elected W . M . for the ensuing Thursday . Lodgo was then closed in due form .
Prosperity Lodge of Instruction , No . 85 . —A meeting was held on Tuesday last , ab Bro . Maidwell's , Hercules Tavorn , Leadenhall-street . Present—Bros . Bentley Haynes W . M ., Salute S . W ., Walker J . W . and Secretary , Wall S . D ., Roberts J . D ., Rich I . G ., Moss Preceptor ; also Bro . Webb . The minutes were read and confirmed . Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro .
Rich answered questions nnd , being intrusted , was duly raised to the sublime degree of a M . M . in a most efficient manner . Lodge closed in third and second degrees , when Bro .
