Annual Athletic Fete At The Boys' School.

ANNUAL ATHLETIC FETE AT THE BOYS' SCHOOL .

IT is doubtless well known to the readers of the FREE - MASON ' S CHRONICLE that on the occasion of the Annual Visit of Stewards to the School " Our Boys " engage in a Series of athletic competitions , and , as usual on such occasions , prizes have to be provided . Now , there is no

fund—of a permanent description—from which prizes can be furnished , and therefore an annual struggle ensues to raise the sura needed for the purpose . There are always a few , we may say a very few , who contribute something , but their number is not sufficient to satisfy tbe cravings of

the " growing generation , ' or the honours their rulers consider them entitled to . As a consequence , the " Prize Fund Subscription List" has to be worked upon by its

few supporters for a very extended period . Indeed , we have only just received l ^ t year's balance sheet , and this , too , when the coming season is all bnt commenced , and a start shonld have been made with a list for next June ' s

assemblage . Bro . Rev . Dr . Morris , the Head Master of the School , we know will be pleased to receive contributions for the 1884 Prize Fund , or , should our friends desire it , they may be sent through us . The following is a statement of last year ' s account .

TT must be a matter of very-great gratification to the - * - Committees of the three Institutions to hear of any tresh means being devised to add to the sums raised , year DJ year , by the brethren of England for the purposes of Masonic Charitv , and when these means are nf a rihavani-cr

The Grand Lodge of Quebec , and its subordinate Lodges , have met with a moat serious rebuff at the hands of the Provincial Parliament , which , at its meeting held on the 17 th ult ., rejected , on tho second reading , a Bill , introduced by Mr . White , to relieve the brethren of the Quebec

Constitution from tho operation of the laws directed against Secret Societies . The Quebec brethren thus find themselves unable to hold a meeting unless they choose to violate the laws of the country in which they reside—a step which would hardly be consistent with the teachings of Freemasonry or the dictates of common prudence .

Percy Lodge of Instruction , No . 198 . —At the Jolly Farmers , Southgate-rcad , N ., on Saturday , 26 th nit . Present—Bros . Cross W . M ., and a numerous assemblage of the brethren . This being the last Saturday in the month , Lodge dosed early , and the members of the Masonio Association held their sixth monthly meeting , when , sufficient subscriptions having been received , the seventh and eighth Life Governorships were balloted for . Brethren desirous of

becoming Life Governors or Life Subscribers of one or other of the Institutions are reminded of this easy method of doing so . This Association presents an especial feature , inasmuch , as not having been long started , the arrears are small . A meeting of brethren in . terested in the testimonial to the late Preceptor , Bro . Pearcy , will take place on Saturday next , 4 th May , at the Jolly Farmers , Southgate-road , N .

Brother Barnes proposed and Brother Clements seconded that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to Brother Sinclair for the very excellent manner in which he had rehearsed the ceremony for the first time in this Lodge . This was carried unanimously . Brother Clements was elected W . M . for the next meeting .
